Frost vs Alex - 1 Pocket Match on Monday for $40,000

He didn't look quite that much on tilt, but he didn't look comfortable. And it wasn't like Alex gave him no opportunities. Alex got 2 or 3 real nice rolls early, but after that Scott sure had his chances.

I'm just used to seeing Scott run a lot of balls when he gets his chance. That didn't happen last night.

He ran plenty of balls, he just owed 6 or 7 everytime he did!!!

Whoever does those stats on the stream matches for break and runs, % of balls made, safeties executed, etc. -- should have done the same last night.

The shot that told me that Scott definitely didn't have his 'A' game. Early on the match, within the first 4 games I think, all the balls are up table except the 8 ball on the spot. The cue ball is up at the top rail. Scott plays the cue ball off one of the balls that are also up table, goes to the side rail and then the cue ball runs smack into the 8 ball on the spot. A player of Scott's caliber when he is on his game should come no where within 18 inches of hitting the lone ball down table that is on the spot. It was then I knew that Scott was in for a long night.

People do that shit all the time when I bet on them. LOL

I actually remember that shot. I was like, that's really bad to be messing up on that particular sequence so early on.

The thing that was impressive with Alex was he was disciplined. No joking around. No loud talking. No drinking He just had his game face on and came to play. He did make those long shots but only if he was sure of it. He did turn down some shots like a one pocket player should if he did not like the out come of it if he missed or if the profit from making it was negligible.
One pocket is about shot selection and discipline. It is the antithesis of 9 ball. In a rotation game you have to shot at the required ball. In one pocket you have multi selection of shots. 9 ball players usually go for the shot to the hole. That might be power one pocket. But as it showed last nite shot selection and discipline is what brought Mighty Alex to the finish line.

Oh boy. LOL

Best dressed award goes to Frost that shit he had on was pimp cuz. Lucky they dont have that shit in my size or I be all over it.

Thanks for streaming

Thanks to POV for streaming this, I wasn't able to stay up for the whole thing but I hope you'll be able to put it up on youtube at some point.

Also I've finally remembered to donate to POV, keep up the good work Daniel.

Congratulations to Alex for a big win.

I promise.. I get it.. The "in the middle" just isn't something I've heard at the pool rooms around here.

I think the reason its never or rarely heard in a local pool room is in a local room, its usually 1 on 1 gambling. The players are usually putting up their own cash, maybe one has a backer if they are the local hot shot.

With these multi-thousand dollar action matches, of the best players in the world, the money is coming from lots of people pooling together. So the phrase in the middle makes more sense to use in these larger cases becaue in truth no single entity is putting up half the "middle" amount. Its split many ways.

Conversely, it doesn't make any sense to use the "middle" term in a local matchup of $200 sets.

Alex might have won but DAMN Frost can literally cut the paint off the balls. Anyone else see those ridiculous cut shots?

My observations of the match is Alex was comfortable and played very well, missed less balls which in hindsight it should have been expected considering all the time he had been playing there up until this match. Scott had a better end game I felt and moved better with the balls up table. Scott did not run balls good at all, not like he usually does and missed some shots he would have razzed me hard over if I did because they were pretty easy for that level of player.

I am sure Scott will lick his wounds and come back for more, one thing he has is a ton of heart and will get in the box. Scott made it to the top of the one pocket pyramid but I guess to stay on top you need to be in competition with the other top guys and put the hours in. This might be a wake up call for him to do just that because he is not running around all the big tournaments nor does he practice like his peers, natural talent can only do so much. Looking forward to a rematch between the two, hats off to Alex and well played.
