FS: G. Szamboti?

This is a pretty cool cue. You do it a disservice by mentioning the Gus story, its false and distracts from what you have. If you are looking for how to learn about the cue, forget Barry, like I said, the reference to his dad is just a distraction. Contact Bill Stroud (Joss West).

While you are at it. You might want to pop the top off that cue case and see if there's a Fellini tag in there?

This cue reminds me of an early "Joss" I had in my collection for a number of years (it has since been sold). Although the materials are different the design pattern (inlay work) is/was similar. My guess is that it is an early custom Joss specifically made for a player sometime ago.

If the cue is an early Joss made by Stroud/Janes, then it is worth something. Again, an authentication might help you get more than simply listing it as maker unknown.

I think I can even "date" this cue. I'm sure it was made after Ernie made the Ed Kelly cue, and during that period of time where Ernie was "retired" from cue making.

I believe there's a very respected member of our community that owns a very similar cue (at least in the butt design).

I don't know what kind of cue this is, but enough people on here know that it is not a Szamboti, regardless of what the pawn shop owner told you. Whatever cue it is though, judging by the photos, it does look like it's at least 20 years old. Good luck with selling it, but I think it needs to be definitively identified first in order to get a fair price for it.

I've seen a cue with this butt from Joss. Was yours plastic? This one is (I think) as was the one I saw from Joss West. Really a unique use of material.

Well for one thing it signifies that you are about to get a bunch of low-ball offers on the case.

That you want to show to Hangemhigh (a member here at AZ) and ask what the material is (an hope his answer is something exotic). Bill Stroud is also a member here but I'm not sure of his AZ name.

Dear op;

What Kevin is alluding to regarding the case is that it may also hold some value. If it's a Fellini, those are desirable.

As for the cue, it would behoove you to get an id on it rather than selling it blind. As you were advised, you have already heard from some pretty good authorities right here on this thread.

If it were me, I would take the advice and try to make contact with Bill Stroud and Dan Janes as they are the most likely builders of your cue.

For the time being, I would leave Barry out of it as there appears to be an unlikely connection to Gus.

Whatever it is, it is an interesting cue with some value.

Please let us know what you find out.

I'd like to thank everyone for the input, this at least gives me a direction. I just want to sell it for what it's worth. So what do I do with the case?

If I were in your shoes, I'd sell the case and cue separately.

tikkitavi on here likes to buy Fellini cases.

Its just a guess based on a grainy pic, but it looks like ostrich to me.
