FS - X-ray your cue?

I have access to an x-ray machine. I have x-rayed a few cues over the years to learn about contruction more than anything else. I was considering that there may be a very small market for that service. There are plenty of rare or collectable cue owners here. Would anybody here pay for the service? What do you feel a fair price would be to have a cue x-rayed for authentication or whatever reason? I guess one additional positive would be that if I price the service reasonably by next year or two I should be the worlds single best authority on custom collectable cues. If you were going to ebay a Bushka or whatever it might be cost effective to purchase my service.
Any thoughts? Any customers?

Thanks,
Eddie

Have you done a Gus??Do you know what to look for??

Kerry Zeiler (Zylr Cues) was an x-ray technician. He used one of those machines to look at cue construction. You may want to give him a call.

Chenz also does it

Vinny Chenz also does it
He uses a fluroscope machine which shows up a greater detail than a plain
x ray.

Tommy, an X-Ray would show the different pieces, intersections, screws & bolts within, etc. Theses are forensic details that can be the deciding factor on questionable cues, and worth every penny when talking about multi-thousand dollar cues.

Show some pics!

It'd be really cool if you'd post some of your xray'd cue pics on AZ.

A buddy of mine was able to use a regular flat bed scanner to transfer his xrays to his computer.

Also, I'm sure by having pics you'd generate additional interest for your service.

Either way, I think its an interesting service to offer.

itd be really cool if you would make some high quality xray prints of cues/cue sets from famous/popular cue makers. kind of like collectable art.

X-Ray Cues

I think there is a small market in this. However the problem will be certifying that "this X-Ray" goes with "this cue". The question is can X-Rays be duplicated? What would the certification process be to guarntee that the X-Ray matched the cue? I can really see a certified Balabuska X-Ray with a fake Balabusa cue because somebody received a copy of a real Balabusa X-Ray.

Costs: Uncertified X-Ray (for personal playing cues and personal use)
50.00 plus shipping

Certified X-Ray (for verification of Rare Cues for Sale). This would require an X-Ray prior to sale and an X-Ray after sale to verify same cue(?). 100.00 plus 2x shipping.

Just my 2 cents.

Eddie,
I am also in Michigan and have quite a few cues I would like to have x-rayed if the price is right, maybe we could work out a volume discount!

This might work out because I would never ship most of my cues but I could meet you at the machine if possible.

Cues we could start with so that you would have a base-line on what these cues are supposed to look like:
Gus Szamboti's
Barry Szamboti's
GSB's
Bushka's
Rambo's
Searing's
Tad's
Tascarella's
Schick's
Spain's
DPK's
Franklin Southwest's
Hercek's
Black Boar's
Showman's
Tibbit's
Mottey's
Manzino's
Joss West's
Omega DPK's
White's
Cantando's
Bender's
Gina's
Gilbert's
Bluegrass's
Craig Peterson's

If you are interested in working out something send me a PM with your phone number.

I bet Kerry has XRays of Szamboti and other high end cues.

If the Blie Book is word, he studied a lot of cue XRays before he started building his cues. Maybe that is why his play so well. Anyone with a Zylr order could talk with Kerry and find out the real scoop on what he has done. Sorry to hijack your thread. Your service sounds like a great idea.

I tried xraying mine, but it wouldn't fit in the microwave!:D :D :D

I can also offer this service if you live near Boston, or pay for shipping. You can pm me if interested. I've been doing ALL forms of xray for 20+ years and have the latest in equipment at my disposal. Yes, xrays can be copied but if you can tell a copy from an original. I also have digital equipment that imprints the day/date/time etc. I can answer any questions if anyone has interest. Vinny

twoforpool, good thoughts!
One possible way would be to create a matching 'sig plate' of whatever density to x-ray WITH the cue...

It would include whatever description to best fit the cue (including names, weights, points, etc.). This allows for minimal variance in fraudulent cue matches, but is not 100%. And I think it would be easy to spot a 'photochop' on an exray because of 'pixilarity' (if that's even a word).
