Now now sarky........you know that in view of a lack of basic talent and an onset of decrepit senility the gentler green baize of the golf course will always comes first and looking at the schedule, this year that'll be The Montgomerie Men's Open 9/10 April, last event in the 2009/2010 UAE Order Of Merit in which I am absolutely rocketing towards the dizzy heights of top 20 in the main section and clinging on to number 1 slot in the Seniors :p

If work assignments happen to find me up from Abu Dhabi towards Ras Al Khaimah Port or beyond that towards Fujairah on any of your dates I might pass by the qualifiers one day..... though am not motivated enough to make the journey just for the pool to be honest. Daz comin?....Edit, ok see the answer to that now.

PS....don't see any flyers around the place in Abu Dhabi but hopefully the jungle drums will get the word out to the usual suspects for your qualifiers.

I can't believe I didn't get an invitation for this tournament either!!! Mosconi Cup, World 9-ball, Masters etc, and now this... Grrr.... :-)

Well done Doug, hope it will be a great event.

Doug...It's jmo, but why don't you take a little from the top two prizes and beef up the 'last 32' and 'last 48', so at least they can afford to travel to the tournament. IMO, $600 & $400 is a slap in the face, for a prestigious event like this. That won't even pay for 1/2 of a plane ticket. If roundtrip air travel and accomodations are included for the invited players, then perhaps I'm way off here, and I apologize. Are they?

It appears that Fujairah, Qatar & Brunei take pool seriously by making sure the players get paid.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop, Doug!

BTW, will this event be televised, Live Streamed or have DVD's available? If so, where would one go to see or stay connected?

No WU, is this a WPA event and Wu is excluded from competition yet again?

Or were invited players players who have in fact accepted the invitation to play already? I see that Shuff is in yet Johnny Archer is not an invited player. Also no Pagulayan.

who to contact regarding qualifyers?

Hi David
Another change of plan to make life easier. The 10 international spots will now be played off at Millenium Avenue in Dubai from 28th March.

I am sorry that I am not on top but I was demolishing a wall when it started demolishing me. I have spent the last few days in hospital after breaking the top off my thumb. I had it stitched back on and It should be OK to go home tomorrow. Then I will get some fliers out with the complete deal.

You should have set up an interest deal on our $10 bet. But you can have it in the UAE

Shrewd move, should be virtually certain you'll get more entrants by playing all the qualifiers down in Dubai as opposed to up in Fujairah. As you know most people have jobs and live and work in Dubai or Abu Dhabi and can probably get to and from the Dubai pool hall each work evening a helluva lot easier, even taking account of city traffic.

Never argue with brick walls, they always win unless you're in a JCB or a Sherman. Wish you a quick recovery.

why aren't there more infos? we're 2 weeks away
THIS SUPERCEDES ANY PREVIOUS INFORMATION PUBLISHED ANYWHERE.

With uncertainty over sponsorship issues it was considered prudent in the circumstances to wait until these were resolved before making pronouncements that could not be honoured. Now that these are firm I can give you the following information.
The event will be the WPA World 8 Ball Championship and will carry a prize fund of $100,000. Top attraction will be the appearance of Efren Reyes and Francisco Bustamante, The tournament will run from 4th to 10th April in Fujairah.
But there are 8 spots up for grabs in a series of qualifying events in Dubai. These will take place between 28th March and 2nd April with continuous play every day.
The venue is Millenium Avenue Pool Club, Al Yasman Building and you can play between one and five times. It will cost $60 per event or a full five events for $240 if you prepay
The 8 qualifiers will also be able to play in an all winners tournament which will be held on 3rd April with an extra prize fund of $2000

There is a hotel near to the venue – The Al Manar – which is offering rooms with breakfast for $35 + 20% tax (based on 2 people sharing).

anymore news Doug?

Newsflash.....the weather forecast is for constant sunshine and the traffic jams are still rampant. The price of beer is even dearer than before. Most pubs are pretty good but most night clubs are full of 'up themselves' trendy posers. The muppet taxi drivers still don't know where they're going.

You definitely won't get mugged or attacked walking back to your rooms in the street at 3 in the morning or have your wallet or cue stolen in the venue or anywhere else. The monorail metro system is up and running on some routes and is cheap as chips.

The price of golf at championship golf courses is at last dropping but none of us have got any money left :)
