Full Splice dots.

Maybe you wouldn't want to see those bottom veneers, and maybe THAT'S why those cuebuilders cover them up. If you're good you show off how good you are, if you're bad you hide it.

Jet makes a lot of saws

I have a jet ( 16 or 18 inch can't remember)at we bought for my Dad's shop it's not worth the time it took to drag it in the shop some of there tools are great I have a mill by them but some are junk. If you look at the hp of the motor they are weak for re sawing ebony and other exotics

Jet makes a lot of saws. I liked this particular one for my purposes and the one I recommended it for. Motor quality is something that can be lacking in all of the cheaper line chinese machinery. The nicer lines generally come with better motors. This was a well designed solid little saw. Some of the bigger saws weren't nearly as nice, some were much nicer. Depended on the line and the model.

To me squared points on the bottom of the cue tell me that the cue is not really full spliced, to me it means that the points are inlayed not spliced.

That's simply not true.

I have at least three cues that are full splice with flat points at the bottom. They are definitely fill spliced, there is no doubt.

It's actually pretty common. From what I understand it is simply easier to accomplish.

Personally, I really dig points that are sharp in both directions...but I don't own one.

Maybe it's just me but I really hate when cuemaker's put a MOP or Ivory dot at the bottom of their splice. To me it is like they are trying to hide or cover something up. If I have have a wrapless full-splice I want to see all the veneers comming and meeting in a perfectly square little notch with no filler and no dot .

Anyone else see it this way?

It's not just you...I feel the same way! I know that it's not always the case of a coverup, but that's my first reaction when I see the inlays at the bottom of fullsplices...

It's not just on fullsplices...I've seen spearheads at the top of points that were evidently placed there to cover up the difference in heights of the points. I searched the gallery (but gave up because it was taking too long) for an example of a cue that was definitely NOT a coverup...the spearheads were added at the end of the very sharp point - so it was very evident this was not a coverup, but rather part of the original design. I had a defnite appreciation for that cue...the coverups - not so much.

I like dots and clovers

when they are used to show off how even the points really are. Compliments of Andy Gilbert.

turn to the cue review to see the best full splice cues i have seen

points are sharp at both ends

John Nemic of Dallas has mastered the process

if you want perfectly sharp points up and down, this is best I have ever seen

I like the others with dots and such that turn the unsharp points into something attractive

nothing to be ashamed of at all

but i like John's better

This is the look that I prefer

Jerry -R- FS 8 pointer with sharp bottoms and no dots.

That is what I am in the process of building, well trying to build anyway I have been trying for two years now and I have not achieved something I would jump up and down about yet. I understand the difficulty in perfecting this method of splicing, I am hoping that the new band saw I am buying will solve my problems.

To everyone who has read this thread, my comments in an earlier post were in correct. The point I was trying to make was lost in the translation, I apologize to any one who took offense.

Top cue with the dot . Bottom cue without.

I order them with dots if it flows with the pattern. I have pics of the 4th of july cue before the dots were in and the splices were perfect just like the brown/yellow cue you have. I am sure some guys use them as cover ups but not in this case. Or on any I have ordered with dots. My other wrapless propellor cue also had dots at the bases. To me it just flows better.

The dots do complement and add to the design in your cue . I guess I'll revise my stance and say I don't like them when they are the only inlay in the cue .
