For the gear-heads out there, this should creme your pants. Bonus points if you can identify what car and manufacturer this engine is for.

Hint: Makes over 650 hp above 7,500 rpm and is a production engine/car.

Looks Italian to me. I am going to guess Maserati car and a Ferrari built engine. But been wrong before. Nice picture and work though. Did you take the picture? Are you working on it?

Ferrari FF?? Not so sure but the timing gears make me think Ferrari v12 =P

And Why are the cam gears flipped on the drivers side?

Maybe it's this? The highest horsepower production V-8 in the world...

Pretty close! It is a Ferrari Enzo motor. They were loosely used in Maserati's but only in the pedestrian 400 hp form.

A friend through my car travels works at a Ferrari dealership and sometimes posts nuggets of gold.

Incorrect. They used this engine in the Maserati MC12 (basically an Enzo with a different body kit) with a couple less horsepower, 630.

They also use the F430 engine in several configurations in different Maserati models with between 405 and 450 horsepower (it has 490-510 in the F430).

gr. Dave <--- reads too many car magazines.

I had excluded the 20 or so MC-12's that were built as they weren't "production" for all intensive purposes.

The valve-train and internals for the F430's are so vastly different (as is the drive-train) that I the motors are basically distant cousins in the same light that the base lancer and lancer evolution are not the same car.

Poor Maserati, they are like the 6 cylinder Mustang's of the 60's when compared to their big brothers with the 5.0 V8.

No, you specifically spoke of the (V12) Enzo engine being used in a 400hp form in Maserati's and that is simply not correct.

Sure they also used the V8 engine from the F430 in 400hp form but that is a completely different engine.
The total production for the MC12 was 50 plus 5 race cars.
