I have played with jaguars with me on one side of the fence and them on the other, plenty close enough for me! A friend tended the live jaguar that Southern University had for a mascot, had to keep up with LSU. He could go in the cage with it but he fed it twice a day or whatever so they were pretty tight. A girl kept wanting to pet the cat, he kept telling her, no, way too dangerous. She managed to get a hand in the cage one day. The cat slapped her hand without extending it's claws, broke every bone in her hand! Those are some big kitties! Reminds me, for decades LSU used to park Mike's cage in the tunnel the opposing team had to run out of, leaving things a bit tight to get by him. Just a little something to help them get their blood pumping!
