Future Action Challenge Ideas

What are some of your thoughts on future action challenge matches? I think with the right marketing and promotion, this idea started by TAR can be something REALLY special. They have done a great job and the PPV's are outstanding. I think a structured format could be adopted to make the matches less random and in turn generate more publicity. If you follow boxing you know that a ranked contender format is in place with a champion in each division. Maybe this is an avenue that pool can follow. It wouldn't take away from the big tournaments, but could determine who is the world's best player at given times. Every few months a new match could be promoted between the current champion (World Action Champion?) and top ranked contender. Whomever wins would be the new champion, complete with belt, etc. etc... With the right promotion and obviously sponsors I think the PPV gate would increase greatly and get the bigger name players interested in holding the title. If this went good then why in the world wouldn't Reyes, Yang, Wu, Orcullo, and all the other best players in the world not want to be the reigning champion? Obviously, this hinges on the money aspect as well, but with the right sponsors and PPV coverage, why not? Discuss.

I would like to see:
Shane vs one of many pinoys
TRex vs a top player in 1P
Efren in 1p

what I would not like to see
no 8ball
no 14.1

I'm looking forward to more one pocket... Tony Chohan is a good idea, Efren is great, if you could get him.... and then get anyone on the planet willing to play him even.

disagree with Uwate on the 14.1, would love to see more -- I like the games with reduced luck... Banks would be cool too.

I think TAR would get a better return on their investment by showing more 1p and 9/10ball and less 14.1.

14.1 is a beautiful game when its played well, the problem is that it just doesnt sell well. Look at the accustats offerings and it tells the story...they dont offer alot of 8ball and 14.1. I think you can make an educated guess that the reason they didn't offer more 14.1 and 8ball is that it didnt sell good enough.

I made my picks not only for my own personal interests but I was thinking in terms of what would be the easiest for TAR to market.

Any international flavor like the top USA players matched up against Taiwan, China or Manila would sell imo. TAR has to look at creating more interest from the international audience.

One suggestion to TAR is that they should try to get alternative billing for their services. Paypal is not the greatest way to do processing if you want to get as many people in the door as possible. Getting alternative billing options like epassporte, netcash, charge to phone, SMSbilling etc will result in more signups. Its a pain to get them working but in the end its a one time effort that yields higher $$$ on a recurring nature.

What up Uwate, I told our troubles were over. Are you gonna "make it rain" when you get all your payments in :D :D :D

I understand that the Huge names like Corey/Shane/Earl are going to get the bigger sales...but I enjoyed the bartrum/Gabe match best so far.

I like watching players gamble that are very good players, yet are still capable of missing a ball here and there. I know it sounds silly but I would rather watch the lower tier pros/gamblers play that sometime get outta line and kinda dog it a tad. Its more entertaining to sweat a match where its not just rack after rack after rack of flawless, inline runnouts. I would pay to watch "famous" shortstops gamble. ie Little John, Justin Cone, Shorty, etc etc.

I just hope TAR doesn't "ban" any ability levels. Good action, is good action.

Maybe each show could have some comedy inserted. Some of our best 4 Speed AZBers could match up for a 3/5 for $2000. Imagine the pressure on a 4 Speed, on TV & for the dough... HaHaHa..

LMAO

That was quite a sweat this weekend. Danny H sure earned his dough. I heard through the grapevine that Danny is in talks with Louie Demarco to do another all around, only this time it will be 1p/banks/9ball.

lol, Jake this is funny because I actually "make it rain" everytime I go out with my friends in Athens now. I only do it for $50 or $100 but to watch all the sketchy girls run around the dance floor picking up $1 bills is unbelievable. The owner of the club we frequent has a stack of bills ready for me every time we go now. I think Southpaw has pictures or video of one of the times. I think Ive done it 7-8 times now. Its probably the dumbest thing anyone could possibly do, but it makes for good drunken stories. IMO

the best way to go is makin it rain in strip clubs
the girls are already used to 1.00 dollar bills and you'll have every stripper in the place all over you.

U-man,
While everyone has their own preferences; I believe it is fallacious for you to assume that 14.1 "doesn't sell well." While I am not Pat Fleming's sales manager, he has told me (IIRC) that the top-selling Accu-Stats tapes are the 14.1 tapes (with the Zuglan-Sigel tape being the #1 tape).

The reason there are not more 14.1 tapes is that there have been precious few 14.1 events over the past 17 years (of course the reason for that can be debated, and may well support your view:) ).

P.S. - in my opinion it is all pool games that don't "sell well."

Also could be billed as the biggest blow out ever

the best 10 ball player in the world (Shane " the south dakota slayer" Van Boening) vs. the guy who thinks he's the best all around player of all time ( Evgeny "Peanut Head" Stalev)

Stalev has so much potential, but where is he again?

Two things you can always count on.....a rumor about Rafael Martinez either getting killed or dying or almost getting killed....and a "where's Evgeny Stalev?" question every year. He plays for 4-5 months, disappears for 9-10 months. Plays 2 tournaments, disappears for a year. He's almost as hard to spot nowadays as bin Laden.

Yea, you and Shawn in the booth would be great for this event. What would you guys talk about besides my fine play?

Biv you got action with the three ball ghost...

we are playing bank pool right?
