Ga Young Kim beats Allison and then Pan to win the Carolina CLassic WPBA tourney. There is pressure from Asia on the European Stars.

I saw the GYK vs. Fisher match. Allison missed more balls during that match than I've seen her miss in a long time. Or ever.

The party may be over for Allison and Karen. Watch what happens if Jasmine decides to come over here to live. I think she is the best woman player right now.

I have seen Allison play GYK before and she played poorly then too. I know it is hard to think of a champion like her getting rattled, but do you think that GYK might be the one player that Allison doesn't know that she will just crush and that shakes her confidence a bit?

I still like Kim over Jasmin, even with Jasmin's remarkable feat at the BCA (or whatever it's called now) last year. GYK already has 2 world championships, a TOC, the Nationals, and the US Open; and she's getting BETTER. She used to be almost all offense - this weekend, she played a ton of fantastic and creative safeties. She's got a great break, she's obviously been working on her defensive play, and she pots with the best of them. As long as we don't see that nervous little girl from the 2003 US Open show up, GYK has the tools to make a serious charge up the WPBA rankings.

I'm not knocking Jasmin in any way - I hope she comes over to play full time. Women's pool needs more parity, then perhaps they can go back to full double elimination events instead of these ridiculous anti-Allie/Karen formats. I guess that's a real sign of how good you are when tournament formats are changed because you're winning too much.

I agree with you Jay. Jasmine is a complete player (and I mean COMPLETE) and she's young. If she played regularly on the WPBA there would be some shuffling at the top to make room for her.

I found out that when the women get to the top 16 that the tourney turns into single elimination from there on. I wonder if the results would have been different?

I don't want to take anything away from the players that came in the final four...I'm sure they played very well. But I wonder if the same forty players on the bottom of the rankings that like this format would like it to be True Single Elim. Then it would be one loss for everybody and your gone. Johnnyt

i dont understand why jasmin isnt over here.does anyone know why?competing anyway.

She would have to qualify for a WPBA event by winning a local tournament which mean Round Trip Air, Motels, strange towns etc and what is her reward-a shot at $13k and a title that is near meaningless? She doesnt have to prove anything-Id love to see her here but it isnt such a "no brainer" for her as some think.

She has plenty of European sponsors so the WPBA just isnt that big of an attraction to her Im guessing. GYK earned 40K last year before airfare, hotels and the $500 per tourney fee so there is a lot of glitz but very little moohlah for the ladies.

On the bright side-I havent heard it specifically but putting a few things together I believe there may be European and or Asian qualifying events in 2008.

XTP played very well the entire event and was on the hill for the title while GYK had 4. GYK had to win 3 games in a row and win a safety battle kicking in a ball and running out.

XTP was super upset over the loss and you can bet she will be at the table 10 hours every day for the next event. She may not win it but she will get there soon. You can count on that.

Allison in on record as saying GYK is her toughest match.

Karen Corr is on record as saying the same exact thing. When Ga Young is on she plays the game at a gear that is way out of reach for the other players - including Allison. In addition to that - Ga Young has the best walk of any pool player in history.

Yes! Her walk is outstanding. Especially when she is practicing in her Short Denim shorts. All my stresses just float away!

Davey... just for the record, I have refrained from asking Ga Young to marry me for over 8 months now. Someday she'll wake up and come to her senses. lol

I agree with the general sentiment here. Ga Young's highest game is incredible, in part because she has a great break to go along with a rock solid runout game. Neither Allison nor Karen ever dominates with their break (save the short period in which Karen used the soft break with the Sardo rack in use). Still, Ga Young is weaker tactically than Jasmin, who is tactically weaker than Allison, who is tactically weaker than Karen. If Ga Young catches them all in tactics, she has a chance to mass produce WPBA titles the way Allison and Karen always have. Nice to see her begin the year in such fine fashion, and wishing her continued success.

I am not totally sure what that means, but if it refers to safeties? You wont 3 foul this girl, aint no way. Her 3 cushion skills are out right! I actually believe that if BlackJack can show her some one pocket then she would be able to hang with quite a few of the boys. (but she is very youthful (24 or so?)(and with age comes patience, so by the time she turns 30+ she could be a force).

Defense, kicking, use of two way shots and proper handling of push out situations are the key elements of nine ball tactical play. That's what I'm referring to.

As you wisely note, however, Ga Young is still in her early twenties, so she is still developing as a player, and the sky is the limit. She's a great talent and a credit to our sport, and she may hoist many a trophy in the coming years. I'm sure we'll both enjoy watching it.

By the way, I love your one-pocket idea. It's a great game for developing tactical skills, creativity and finesse. This strikes me as the recommendation of a very knowledgeable player.
