She has a new TV show starting where she is host which will be on Monday -Friday in Prime Time. I think it is a done deal and she will begin repaying some folks with that money. For some reason GYK's solid championship record thus far is often overlooked on this forum. Her WPC titles were back-to-back, and her US Open title was preceded by a finalist slot the year before. Sure, she has room to improve, but so does Allison, and Earl, and Chao, and other established Champions...
After her ridiculous setbacks in Taiwan this year, I am CRAZY happy for her right now.

Ga Young's break is only one facet of the game that separates her from Allison and Karen. Ga Young's mental game and physical game is much looser and much more relaxed than Karen and Allison. Ga Young's dad has done a superb job with coaching her and being an excellent mentor. She has a fighting sprit that is unmatched (unless you take away the caffeine and nicotein- then she really gets mean).
Ga Young's break was erratic prior to 2003. If you watch her follow through and extension on the break shot you will see one fluid movement, not a jerking blast action. It took a while to correct that and even longer for her to get comfortable with it - but it changed her game immeasurably.
In observing XTP last year, I observed that she stands up out of her stance on the break which causes her to come off the ball slightly. I believe that if she fine tuned her break and some minor deficiencies in her patterns that she could dominate on the WPBA.
I also look forward to seeing Jasmin lift the competitive atmosphere up a few notches. Her knowledge, skill and presence will definitely be an asset to the WPBA.
Don't be fooled into thinking that a big break is all it takes to win out there. Tiffany Nelson has the hardest, sweetest break I have ever seen. I believe that if she discovers a way to put it all together that she will definitely be a mainstay in the top 5.
The tour has gotten very very competitive. The three most competitively strong and focused players I have seen recently are the 3 Melissa's. Melissa Little, Melissa Morris, and Melissa Herndon. All of them come to the table with that fire in their eyes that says they won't go down peacefully. If you play any of these 3 ladies, you're in for a long, hard day. One thing is for sure, the players are definitely getting stronger, which makes for a very exciting and entertaining tour!
I actually think XTP breaks a little more consistent that GYK- Yes she she lifts the butt of her stick straight up on her backswing and you would think she would lose whitey for sure but she rarely does. She will add some power or take some off to find what works.
This past event GYK's break was working-making 2-3 balls and often having a good shot or safe. But i have seen her in many tournaments crack them super hard and nothing falls or she has no shot time after time. Her break can be her biggest asset or her worst as she does not like to adjust it during matches (an observation only).
When she is on she is unstoppable- I would really like to see her play in a couple of events vs the men and see what happens when she gets hot-She has no fear-that's for sure.

Ga Young's a great player, and has managed to win some biggies, inclusive of the World Championship, the US Open, the WPBA Nationals, and the Mohegan Sun Challenge of Champions. Her title count is modest, but the fact that she wins some of the big ones bodes well for her future.
I know you're a big Ga young fan, and I'm pleased to see you enjoying the moment. Winning the opening event of the 2007 WPBA season is a great achievement for Ga Young, and sets her up for a great year on tour.

All GYK can do is show up and win and that she did. Jasmin WAS there as was Shin mei Liu, XTP, Kajatani and a bunch more who would make quick work of most of the WPBA. It is a shame though that she still gets almost no respect and i dont mean you SJM.
She told me maybe a year after she won the WPC that when she was young she dreamed of winning the World Championship and she thought that if she could ever realize that imossible dream that she would be respected and have nice things and plenty of money......."and now i win it and no ...." and her voice trailed off. Ill never forget that-only in pool.
Two WPC's now and not a word from a sponsor.

It was the first time Allison, Karen and Lee were all absent from WPC, the reason was these WPBA super stars angered the Amway Cup organizer for charging a lot of the appearance money and prize (the winner could earn US$24,000 in 2005). Then the organizer decided to replace the Amway Cup invitational tournament with the Amway Cup WPC (no appearance money in WPC). In fact, Karen and Lee has never done well in WPC.

Congratulations to Ga Young! I love her style of play and Jasmin's. She is a great representative for the sport and I am baffled as to why she has no sponsor yet either, especially from her own country.
The Asian Invasion continues. I see we have Miss Kyoko Sone coming over to play on our regional qualifying tour this weekend and it looks like Cha is coming to the US too.
I am wondering why Ga Young is not ranked #1 in Korea?

Cha and Immonen Victorious in Korea
An anxious TV audience filled the seats to see the first semi-finals with the two Cha sisters vying to see who would advance to the finals. 21 year old Boram Cha had taken a 3 year break from pool and returning strong in her first international event in 3 years. 19 year old Yuram in those three years has risen to be #1 on tour, but had yet to win a major international title.
Yuram gave her sister an easy game for Boram's first TV debut, winning the set 5-2. "She plays just as good as Kajitani(Japan's #1 woman). Difference is only experience. Maybe in one year she's better than all the women." commented World Champion Ronnie Alcano.
The women's second semi-finals was in contrast full of errors by Miyuki Sakai and Kyoko Sone. Both players made many errors and no break and runs. But Sone of Japan kept her nerve a little better than Sakai and was able to win the match 5-2 to advance to the finals.
Japan's #3 Sone the more experienced and seasoned pro then took on Korea's #1 Cha, young, hungry and looking for her first major win. Yuram came out the gate strong and took the first game. Sone seemed to not be able to shake off her performance from the last match while Yuram kept up her relentless offense. 1-0, 2-0, 3-0, 4-0 in favor of Cha. It was no contest and finally Sone caught a break with Cha missing and leaving an easy 7, 8, 9 on table. Sone missed the first shot and sat while Cha quickly ran to the 9ball, took a deep breath, and fired it in the hole for the victory.
The TV networks were advertising the event as "The Last Event of Yuram Cha before She Goes to USA". Yuram didn't disappoint and will be leaving Korea with a bang.

If the winner break rule were used in WPBA, how many racks can GYK string together under the pocket size of WPBA? That will be a sight to see. When GYK played in Taiwan Women Tour, a string of three or four was quite normal for her. Miss her walk in Taiwan. Good job, little devil girl.
I played GYK in a race to six almost 4 years ago. She won two then I won two. My Break came up dry, and I never got to shoot again. At the time I had no idea who she was. I was just amazed to see this hot Asian girl with an incredible rear kicking mine in. It was the coolest thing ever.
