Counting The money That I DIDN'T Lose Betting On This Shot

I don't know about this block of wood he uses to hold the cue. What's up with that? But I learned something from watching this. Did you?

One clue. Take a good look at where he aims. Now I know the secret after a zillion years. By the way, Vernon didn't have any devices except his hands to hold his cue.

It looked to me as if he was shooting the cueball into the rail first.
Doug
( it didn't help me much, because I can't hit the rail with a ball ) :)

The block had built-in lasers, two of them. Like you said, Jay, he first aims with inside english, as if to make the ball straight in, then he slowly moves his cue tip and the entire block to where he is shooting the shot with extreme outside english, which is the only way the shot would go, on the square. The laser has to split the utmost edge of the object ball, with the other half of the laser hitting the bottom rail. When he sees only half the laser beam on the bottom rail he fires the shot.

The device is called the Tucker Trainer, and is a teaching tool to help students make sure they are hitting the CB in a straight line. Joe does go rail first on this bank shot. He made it three out of four tries right in front of me, each time moving the CB another ball further past the side pocket. Then he proceeded to freeze the OB on the same rail, but an inch or two above the corner pocket, and bank the ball cross corner. I saw Hillbilly shooting this shot, but it always took him several tries. Joe made it 4 or 5 times in a row!
This is all caught on video.

CreeDo...if you want to come down to Providence next week, I'll take your action against Joe making this shot. :D We'll be doing a 3-day pool school at Snookers 6/22-6/24.

a hunnert years ago . . .

A hunnert years or so ago when I still had eyes that could see and steady hands a running buddy useta just cover all the bets that came up when I got down over a super tough shot that would come up in regular games. I'd get down over the shot and the other player or somebody on the rail would want to bet I couldn't make it. Often more people would chime in. Mike covered all bets because he had noticed I rarely missed one of these shots when I poured all of my focus into it. People who wouldn't bet squat against me playing would bet a week's pay on me missing a shot. Mike did better than I did a lot of nights.

When it comes to gaffe bets I wouldn't bet that an eighty pound girl couldn't pick up a nine foot table one handed. I have made a note about bowling pins!

Great Post, Smorgass Bored, on the bowling pin story!! That "you coulda heard a pin drop" line is a classic.

In an after work bar in downtown L.A. a pretty young lady sat at the bar and had a drink. She started a converstion which finally worked up to the bet.Could anyone write down the name of all 50 states in 5 minutes? She wanted to bet $100.00. But I tried it for $20.00. And lost. Couldn't believe it. Tried it again and lost again. She got 3 or 4 other guys , took her money and said goodbye.

We had a guy used to come in the pool room and bet the teens they couldnt drink a whole gallon of milk and not bring it back up.....they had 5 minutes to drink it and had to keep it down for 1 hour.

also he would bet on eating 10 saltine crackers in 60 seconds.......

he made a ton of money off those kids

Use to make this shot 1 out of 5 tries..except he could place the cue ball on a piece of chalk resting on top of the head-rail and do it!..seen it with my own 4 eyes LOL:D
There's a guy in Coldwater, MI that could do that aswell....

It's hard to believe those kids went for the 5mins. My buddy, Chuck Raulston, was given 38mins. to drink the gal. for a rather large wager. He almost got there. Here he is, still in negotiations. Anyone recognize the main wager maker?

The late, and incredibly colorful, Larry Lisciotti would happily bet you that you couldn't drink a gallon of milk without puking within an hour. Told me he lost that bet just once.

Scott Frost?

scooter in the pic.

About 12 years ago something very similar happened around here. This kid came into the pool room and said he could get his foot closer to the ceiling than anyone in the room. My dad said I'll take that bet, but since I am old and feeble, I want 2 tries and 2-1 on the money. The kid says bet a $100. Dad says you got it.

The kid takes off for the wall, kicks and comes about 1 1/2 inches from the top of the wall!

Dad says, " Thats pretty damn good", dad proceeds to walk over to where the kid started his approach to the wall, does some toe touches and som hip stretching, measures up the wall, takes a runner's mark, gets up, walks casually to the wall, takes off his prosthetic leg and proceeds to touch the ceiling. Dad then says, "any questions?"

My dad passed away 10 years ago this April. Happy Fathers Day Dad.
