Galveston $1,000,000.00 tournament

Oh lord I can think of a team from Texas, Oklahoma, and you guys in the MO probably can make a sick team to go ruin the event. Lord know Jason Kirkwood probably rounded up a team. I can't do this there are gonna be guys playing amateur tourneys that havent been able to play an amateur tourney in 10 years. I know Chad Vilmont and Jamie Barracks are gonna be excited if they hear this news.

You know how many BCA Grandmaster players there are that arent in the top 128 mens point lists? Some will donate just to say they played...however you are not gonna fill out fields when guys know they're going against pure monsters that can walk into any pool room in the country and not be an underdog. Gimme a break. So many "pros" will be elated to find out they are actually amateurs! Cool stuff. Now I gotta follow this thread because I think the amateur side of this event is doomed!

P.S. Mike Fuller plays APA and is 93 on the points list...no more to say about the criterion!

Vilmont is a Masters Player in the BCA, so all the other team players would have to be non-masters in any of the leagues listed previously in this forum.

The tournament clashes with a Eurotour event to be held in my club from 16-19 September.
So i guess not allot of European players and also without the big names like Souquet, Ortmann, Feijen, Appleton etc. etc.

Normally if they still choose to play, they get a fine...

I take it you won't be going? :D

Oh, so you can ignore questions, but I can't?

Here, I'll show you how easy it is to deal in *facts* (you should try it for a change :-) As of right now: I have no plans to go; no plane tickets; no hotel reservations; no rental car reservations; no entry fee sent in. (FYI, this is called "a straight answer.")

I actually would like to go (SW has a fare sale going on and the wife has provided the requisite green light). But I have not heard anything yet that has sold me on this event (I am not alone on this point). I could possibly change my mind, but if I dan't, I hope it's swell for all those that make the trek.

That's true, Maurice, I have heard that the Europeans are forced to play the Eurotour.

If not they will end up as Efren & the rest of BMPAP, not welcomed to WPA-tournaments...

Go to their website and get the information from there.

But I don't see why you or Lou would want to know anything if you're not going to go.

It doesn't make sense unless......

Why go to their web site? We have their frontman/spokesmodel/waterboy, right here :-)

Fair enough, but, it's really not much different than the other events. I mean, how does a guy like me, that plays a little one pocket, like getting in that event with guys like Reyes, Bustamonte, Varner, Frost, etc. Now THAT'S sick :-)

I posted all the money payouts a page or so back. Besides getting heated at JoeyA, did you have other questions?

btw, I'm not affiliated with this tournament in anyway and just wanted to help find the million too.

Q's posted a page or three back. And since you're not affiliated with the event, would you not be speculating on the payouts also? Right now, that's about all anyone can do until their spokesmodel provides a fact or three.

I did speculate, then decided to look at all the facts, which I posted, and it appears that $1,000,000 in payout can be achieved with full fields.

OK, so how many pool players are we talking in each event?

Also, do you want to take a stab at what "guaranteed" means. Some of the monies? All of the monies? Escrow somewhere for whatever part is guaranteed?

Lou Figueroa
hey, you asked

Hey Joey
I am just trying to get my entry's paid. This take a little pressure off the expenses.
Let me know if you have any ideas,
Thanks Tony

Well, it looks like there will be more added money to the Pro events if less players show up. If 128 players enter there is $50K added, If 256 players then only $20.7K. It's the same pattern across the board.

I tried to sign-up on the message board on the site, but the email it says to look for hasn't come.

They do say that 100% of all Entry monies will be added to the purse, so even if they don't add a single dime the payouts could be fairly good.

Obviously there are a lot of unknowns and that prevents large numbers of players from turning out.

If we as a community push along in a positive direction, maybe we can start getting some of the answers that no one seems to know for sure.

Atleast they didn't advertise it as $1,000,000 Added, right?

Joey baby, I hope this turns out good for your sake. You wouldn't look good with egg on your face.

Jay,
I could give a rat's azz about what you or anyone else thinks, now or ten years down the road, regardless of the outcome of this tournament.

I want to see this tournament succeed. It's why I mention the positive things that the promoters are doing.

If there are some bumps in the road, so be it.

I want to be able to hold my head up high and say I did my part trying to support this tournament, not to destroy it before it even had a chance to work.

I think the promoters are accomplishing some very positive things. Getting television broadcasting was one of their main goals. They've achieved that and then some. They have ESPN Asia coverage and are according to their web site working on getting U.S. television broadcasting. It will be a chance for the professional players to pick up some new fans and could be one heck of a payday.

Now all the players have to do is show up.

Yes, I suppose the payouts could be good, if they get a big turnout.

Just as a general comment, it's a shame this is the way things are sometimes done. Sorta like selling lotto tickets for an advertised prize of $1M. You win it and are told, "Oh, so sorry -- not enough people bought lotto tickets. Here's $300."

Anywhos, two months out, and as you say, there are a lot of unknowns that could prevent them from getting that big turnout. If I was them, I'd be here spilling my guts out and answering any and all questions. But that's just me.

Maybe the promoters could do something to help themselves and clear a few things up, so that folks don't don't have to try and read tea leaves and lamb entrails ;-)

Lou Figueroa
just a suggestion
