The incident I saw yesterday shook me up and I left the place while the drama was still going on. I was saddend to see an intoxicated man taken advantage of. I am not mentioning the name of this player and many regulars to the cue club in Las Vegas know the name of this individual. He is a rich man and a very strong player both in one pocket and 9 ball and usually others negotiate with him for spot.He says that money is nothing for him and it is only 00000s to him. After 2 weeks he returned to the pool room and his presence was immediately made known by his loud utterences on top of his voice.he started with his usual shouts of profanity including telling the people to s.. his....d etc.He had 4 men and one women accompany and I later found out that he met them in a local bar and brought them with him. I do not think that he knows that they are gangsters. In the begining it was amusing to listen to his utterances on top of his voice with now and then roaring like a Lion, howling like a keyote etc.The show began and the people started gathering around the table 7 & 8.There were nearly 25 sweaters around.Everybody knows it is a pay day to everybody and some will go home with thousands of $.There was a pool league tournament was also going on there that time. There was lot of woofing and lots of hundred dollar bills thrown on the table and lots of debates, arguments between the challengers and this rich man.The people that came in with this rich man were west side gangsters ' Bloods ' and except I and my friend no one in the room knows that those guys are ' Bloods'. One guy entered into flipping the coin contest with the rich man and this guy quickly won three flips in a row for huge amount and then left the place to return later. After 2-3 hours woofing, profanity finally one guy matched uo to play one pocket game race to three. The rich man gave the guy a spot 10-7.The rich man was staggering and few times fell on the next table.several time when it was his turn to shoot he left the cue on the table stands there leaning on the table and sleeps for 30 seconds to a minute and then wakes up and shoots .He then asks the rail for side bets of 1000 $.The story goes on.I could not take it and left the place.

IN MY OPINION ,taking the money from totally intoxicated person is like having sex with a 5 year old child or with a dead person. It is wrong.
I also BELIEVE that gambling with a minor can and will be construed as 'contributing to the delinquency of a minor'.It is wrong.😠
Just curious what kind of management (or lack of) this pool room has to allow this to take place?

That’s crazy. Never snowed when I lived in Long Beach that I can ever remember. That has to be a record.
Never seen snow like this here on the Coast before -- comes in clumps and blows sideways and up and down (200 miles north at the hunting camp is another thing). This is 3rd or 4th time for any accumulation of snow in my 65+ years here on Coast.

When I saw this I knew I would have to respond. There is this one guy in my town that I have played more games against and he against me than any other. We always start out with both of us sober. But he starts drinking. He usually starts out ahead of me but then when he gets too far drunk I come back and beat him. The thing about it is when it gets so damn drunk he can't even hardly hit the cue ball with his stick, I want to quit because I don't want to take advantage of him anymore. But he gets mad and calls me names for quitting while I am ahead. Also we have arguments over bad hits and if he moved the penny or getting bad racks or giving bad racks. The next time I see him he accuses me of taking advantage of him when he's drunk. It is not my fault that he gets drunk and if he doesn't have enough sense to play me sober than it is not my fault.

Had a guy in my room who drank and was from down south. He had gamble so we flipped quarters for awhile and I was up $1,400. Being the good host that I am, I offerred him a shot at his money getting the 7 out and all the breaks. He couldn't run out of a burning building. I beat him 7 to 2 for $2,800 and gave him all the budweiser he could drink for free.

You gotta be good to the customers.

I think this is the most snow I have ever seen this far south in Louisiana too. I thought they were bullshitting about over six inches, looks like they nailed it.

I ain't getting out until that white stuff is off the ground!

I immediately think of two famous sayings , the first "judge not, lest ye be judged. By Jesus in the sermon on the mount. The second was by Dave Chappelle ,he had been hustled by a con man when he has young at three card monte he watched the man until he realized that the people around him pretending to play and win , were all shills and he told the next victim what was going on. The crook snatched him up and told Dave "never get between a man and the way he makes his money.in a very disturbing way. Two totally different approaches but both seem like excellent advice.

I've said at least a couple times, "I'd rather steal." I should clarify that the stealing would be through superior, pound anybody, skill. I haven't and wouldn't even bother with the incapacitated although I must point out that <incapacitated> is the #one reason for losing.

In my NSH opinion of course.

Coldest I can remember down here is seven degrees. Might have got colder last night. Definitely matched it.

You know it is too damned cold when the crawfish are crawling in the pot on their own! This might be the coldest I will see it down here in my lifetime! Some light rain helped melt it but still a lot of snow on the ground. Everybody still closed today too. I could probably drive if I needed to, good all terrain tires on my SUV and I pick tread more for traction than wear. Usually trying to push rain out the sides. Rain tires are designed to push water out the back, not here on the gulf coast as you know. Gotta push it out the sides, back, anywhere you can!

My friend in Utah will drive 85 on a two-track road in the desert or in a white out snow storm on the sled. We were fixing to go to town when it started raining, about a notch heavier than a drizzle. He starts piddling around in his shop. I asked him, "I thought we were going to town?"

"These heavy rains rarely last more than fifteen minutes." Different strokes for different folks. His idea of checking out a valley was to drive up to the edge of a thousand foot cliff to look down rather than get out of the truck with the wheels on the side of the truck closest to the sheer drop off within a foot or two of the edge. Needless to say, a high pucker factor for a Louisiana boy! My brother came up for a week and to help me drive home. When Dave pulled the passenger side up to a cliff and asked my brother what the valley looked like my brother was a bit uneasy. First time I admitted it took some getting used to myself!

I have seen snow before. This white shit can go away any time now!

I was once a bouncer at a club in Lake Buena Vista right about where Backstage Billiards is now. We had a guy stumble down from another bar (Jimmy's?) and try to come in. I refused him entry and he walked (stumbled) away. My boss (the owner) went nuts on me. He was hurting for money and said he needed every penny to keep the doors open. The next time I came into work the owner was singing a different story. The guy went back to the other bar, drank more. At the end of the night he stumbled out through the parking lot and and drowned in a little retention pond trying to get to the road. The police came to check out if he had been drinking in our place and the owner was able to clearly recall the incident and the guy to the police and the fact that we did not serve him save the owner from a lawsuit. I know I did the correct thing but ya wonder, if he had been drinking more at our place, would his trajectory to the road keep him away from the pond...

probably would have saved his life. but you cant look back on decisions made from unknown results you don't have control over.

just like the drunk that is going to lose his money. you cant stop him. . you can watch him lose it to someone or be the one that gets it.

the end result is really just transferring money that would go into your pocket into someone else's pocket.

Or if his parents gave him swim lessons he might still be alive. My single friends thought I was cruel for giving my kids swim lessons before they would walk, but living in Florida there’s pools everywhere. At ten months old they would want me to throw them in the deep end so they could swim to the side and chugga chugga choo choo to the stairs to do it all over again. People would lose their shit seeing me do that. Once my buddies started having their own kids they understood.

All of mine could swim laps before they made it to kindergarten. I wanted them to have a chance if they fell overboard between here and Ship Island. They all ended up doing four years on the swim team. A couple of them still swim today. When you live on the water, teaching kids to swim should be right behind teaching them to walk. Something few people understand is that swimming overboard in the ocean is a whole different animal than the pool -- no shallow end and the water moves.

I don't have kids but I have 7 grandkids via my wife. I have "drown proofed" 3 of them. When I was working on the last one, (they just moved into a house with a pool) we were working on swimming the length of the pool and he was out in the middle and tired and wanted to quit. He was starting to panic and I just kept yelling at him that he had to have the strength to continue when no one was gonna jump in to save him. My wife got upset with me and wanted me to jump in.... He fought his way to the edge about 10 feet from where he was. The wife was pissed. Then, the kid catches his breath and swims the length of the pool going back to the shallow end. She realized I wasn't abusing him but properly setting his mind to know that he can go further than he realized and that he had to be responsible for getting himself to the edge when no one was there. The ones I've taught I've also made sure they realized they could float and take a break and that panic is their enemy. I also taught them the bottom of the pool is only 3 feet above their heads, they can go to the bottom and kick off towards the edge. The first one learned her lesson in the deep end diving for pennies. She came up, panicked, started to freak out, and then kicked in her training. She rolled on to her back, floated, stopped panicking, caught her breath, and flipped back over and swam to the edge. It was at that moment her mom realized the kids got the things I was teaching them!
