Game of choice?

So I was thinking about this here lately. What is everyone's game of choice? And Why? For me it is 8 ball. I know how to play 9 ball but really dont know about 14.1 or any others. 8 ball is my game because it is what everybody plays around here, Ive never really been exposed to anything else. Now when I'm shooting at home I'll rack 9 ball and play once in a while, but for some reason I just cant get into it. Maybe it is because my position play isnt great so by the time I am done shooting them off I figure anybody that was any good at all would have gotten out 2 innings ago. Anyway just wondering what your game of choice is and why.

I like 14.1 in theory but I get annoyed playing it. It's weird but even though it's my "favorite" I play far more 8 ball. On a typical day I can run a bunch of 8b racks but in 14.1 I hardly run 20. The day I ran 43 made me happier than any runout in 8b but sadly I don't do that every day.

I play 8-Ball the most because that what all of my friends know how to play. When i'm at home I play 14.1 the most, eventough my top run is around 17 balls. I don't like much of the rotation games (7, 9, 10 Ball....) because I don't have any cueball control and takes me 15 turns to run the rack.

Well, 14.1 is my favorite, but like most, I struggle to find someone to play so I end up playing 8-ball.

I've played 8-ball the most. I probably understand it's strategies and patterns the best. It is beautiful in that in a league(1 game) setting, 2 pretty good players will both get to shoot 70% of the time.

I like 9-ball mostly because it lends itself to evening up opponents with the luck factor and the ease of giving balls. I find it funny that people talk of 9-ball as a position dominated game. I find it a shot makers game. When ever you come to the table, it is gonna be a hard shot. I find that be cause the first shot is often hard, that the next couple are still pretty hard. After 3 or so shots, your position should improve enough to make the rest easier.

1) 14.1 was my first love / 1A) 3-cushion billiards taught me a lot about 2 to 4 rail kicks and other things I could use playing pool.

2) 8-ball made most of my money playing 8-ball on bar boxes

3) 10-ball new game to me. I like it a lot more than 9-ball

4) 9-ball I've played a lot of it because that's where the money was in some rooms and bars. Just too many problems with racking and too much luck in it.

5) 6-ball fun game that I played a lot of when I was a "D" and "C" player.

6) 3-ball ($2 a man/woman with at least 5 playing and no more than 8)

I'll try 1-hole when I get old. I'm only 68 now.

14.1. I love the purity of straight pool and the fact that it has no limitations. Set yourself a goal and when you reach it, raise the bar and start again. A beautiful game.

9ball is okay, but that's just for fun. The break is too much of a factor, in my opinion. Never played 10ball. I suspect my feelings would be the same as they are for 9ball.

No disrespect, but I don't like 8ball. To much like English Pool for me, which is a game I have never enjoyed.

Love snooker, but needed a change.

Found traditional billiards dull, altho the skill level is very high and my dad used to play it with me.

Haven't been playing pool very long, so have never tried one-pocket, 3-cushion or banks.

eight ball

I don't really care now but when I gambled a lot I favored eight ball. Eight ball was the easiest game to hide your speed and still win a good bit of money.

Nine ball, it was a little harder to hide your speed and still win. Another thing I purely hated was often people wanted to play nine ball on a bar table. Win the nine ball and then they wanted to play six ball to use up the extra balls. I never found a really good six ball break so I got real tired of winning the nine ball and handing the money back losing the six ball game.

I enjoy one pocket and would like to play more 14.1, just haven't gotten around to it.

The post above reminded me, my absolute favorite was snooker but of course that isn't played on a regular table so play was very limited.

14.1 is pool in its finest. All the other games IMO can't hold a candle to it. ( perhaps with the exception of 1pkt for its amazing depth and creativeness)

I play 3 or so times a week with another member here (Driven) and we both have our high runs up there. Mine is 78 and I believe his is 84.

The downside to 14.1 is that when one player catches a gear, chances are when the ice cube in the chair gets up to shoot he pounds one into the rail and if that happens it can be a long frustrating afternoon. Regardless, the game is fantastic, and it's that challenge to maintain focus over the long haul that makes it so interesting.

Just the other day we both happened to be in gear a bit hitting each other with mid 30's and 40's throughout the games we played. It was nice to get and stay in that zone for a while. Much more rewarding than running a few racks of 9 ball. :)

I started and tried my first time at 14.1 a few days ago, and must say, after playing 14.1, I have left the 8-ball in the dust. The game is more gratifying because you can have countless numbers of shots you can make with all degrees of the game, and you get to keep shooting. I love it! It challenges my small brain nonetheless :) Give it a shot, as DogsPlayingPool said, "Been bitten by Straight Pool Bug." Have fun!

I really don't like any game that the table tells you which ball you shot, like 9 ball, 10 ball,8 ball. I much prefer that you must lay the table out yourself with games like 14.1, 1 pocket and bank pool.
Thanks, J
