Gold Crown I

So, I am looking at buying a GC I. It looks to be in great shape to me, but I am certainly no expert.

Cushions are original Monarchs, and seem to have quite a bit of spring left in them. Corner pockets have ashtrays...number dials are the large size, and all work well. Cosmetically, it looks great, but what should I look for to see if it is structurally sound?

From the 2 pics looks like a good GC2 if you get it for a good price. Not much to be wrong with the frame of theses unless you see some huge cracks in the wood which is real uncommon. The GC1s and GC2s had the Brunstone which is real brittle and easily cracked. That is something you want to check out on this one.

Oh...it's a GC II? Not that it matters...I still like the table, but what about the pics showed you that it was a II, and not a I?

The owner seemed pretty convinced that it was not only a I, but a very early GC I.

gc1

does it have a plastic plaque??? then its a gc1 also if you take one of the corner pockets off look theres a date underneath. and leg levelers came on late gc1s and gc2s.

As a rule Rick, they did not. But you know as well as i do,as soon as you say something someone post something contrary to the fact. Brunswick did not help our cause of dating these things due to the fact that they along with their dealers would use parts from previous years models to help confuse us.

I would say the table in the photo due to the trays and color scheme would be a one. My opinion!!

I did take a picture of the plaque, but didn't remember looking close enough to tell if it was metal or plastic:

it hardly matters if it's a I or II. if the price is right, it's a lovely, great playing table. the ashtray pocket castings are very cool. you don't see those very often. oh, and it has a ball return. very nice. what's he asking for it? how desperate is he to dump it? make an offer!

Gold Crown One

yes its a 2 but both are very similar ... Back when they were selling off the ones you could get leg levelers how much are they asking for because yours have the plastic skirts still intact very hard to find... 2000ish would be ok possibly 2500 if its prestine..

john burns

i just seen you were in the conversation. yea ask john them guys know there shit... hey john what are you guys using to paint those plastic skirts???

Doesn't matter to me if it is a I or II...I was just curious. Hopefully refund comes this week, and I can pick it up. Good price...pro install, new simonis cloth, and comes with matching Brunswick cue rack!..loks like the one in http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?p=2950051, only matches the table in my pic... I didn't take a pic of it directly, but it is leaning against the table in the first pic, and the second pic shows the 'back' of it.

When the GC1's came out the pocket castings were thick aluminum castings, because of that they didn't offer the ashtrays with these castings. Later the castings on the ones were changed to a thinner cast aluminum and the ashtrays were an option, these castings were one of the changes the GC1's went through that made it a GC2. The name plate first came out made from plastic, then changed to metal. The aluminum extrusion molding used to mount the GC1 rail skirts were full length on a GC1, then later changed to shorter lengths for the GC2's making it easier to mount the skirts. GC1's didn't have adjustable feet, then were later changed to adjustable feet. Gold Crown 1's had all these changes before they were called GC2's. The MAIN difference in the models is when the figure 8 nut plate was changed to the floating nut plate....if this table has all of the above changes....but has the figure 8 nut plate...it's a GC1...if it has floating nuts mounted in the rails...it's a GC2.;)

Just purchased it today, and I am very excited to get it set up and playing on it. I'll take pics of the install as it goes along and post them here if anyone is interested. Any specific pictures I should be taking to help with ID or other curiosities?

Congrats on getting the table.

Get a pic of the underside of the rails, and a pic of the corner castings with the ashtray taken out. Also a pic of the aluminum extrusion on the top of the side skirts.
