Good break cues

Terry Mcfadden.......He makes a JB that "both" breaks great AND jumps great.....(super easy to jump with)...and very affordable.

Break Cues

Who ya'll thinks makes the best break cues? I here Samsara makes a good ball buster? Any opinions

Rick Howard/ Mace Break / Jump Cues
Mark Bear with purple heart shaft.
an old Ray Schuler with the "super constant taper"

Anyone ever just bought the OB break shaft and slapped it on a cue. I have some extra cues laying around that I could put it on and use as a break cue. What ya'll think?

well that is easy enough to solve...hit the ball more in the middle! :D

Stroke straighter???????? that's crazy talk!

i can't do that when i break hard. all jokes aside i don't have to be as careful with other break cues. they market their shafts as being able to spin the ball easier and unfortunately that doesn't work for me when i break

I hear good thing about Steve Lomax jump breaks too. Im gonna get one to match my schon one day. And of all the break cues ive owned the J and J was the weakest. Its easy to pick one up for next to nothing but u get what u pay for.

glad somebody said it....

Will it get the job done? Well, you can break balls with it (but you can break with a house cue too), and it's a halfway decent jumper. The reason J&J's are mentioned often is that you can find them for WELL under $100, so lots of folks have them. Will it truly hang with the other cues mentioned in this post?? Uh, NO! I had a Stinger that was better in both breaking and jumping, but have gone to separate cues for each.....LOVE the OB for breaking!!!!

surprised that nobody has mentioned the mezz break cues...i think the powerbreak 2 is awesome. the DI pro shaft makes it even better, though it is pricey. other than the mezz, the bk2 is also equally great. those are my top 2 picks as far as production cues.

last time i ordered one (about a year ago) he charges 400 . i've got one of his j/b's and i love it. i've had 4 of 'em over the years and they all break and jump great. 2 of them played lights out. i actually use my gilbert j/b at the local bar tournament i go to on weekends.

if there was only 1 cue in the world that i could hold onto it'd probably be the gilbert j/b that i have now.

That's great to hear! However, it makes me want one even more, and the budget does not yet allow! Thanks for the tease! Ha ha...glad you enjoy it though!

i always thought those BK2's spun the balls too much. never seemed to be able to hit the rack hard enough without spinning the cb too much

As with all phenolic tipped cues, you really need to be able to find the center of the cueball. If you have trouble with this, I strongly recommend against a phenolic tip. On the other hand, I think the Predator *shaft* is a huge benefit, because an off center hit will generally result in far less cueball deflection, thus making a solid hit on the head ball easier.

I will say that when it comes to breaking *hard* and squatting the cueball, no cue allows me to do this more effectively than the Predator BK2, phenolic tip and all. When I'm warmed up, I can keep the cueball near center table so it doesn't hit a rail, with an average speed of about 22-24 mph. (actually for me it usually bounces off the rack and comes a little past the side pocket, which is fine, since that is where the 1 ball goes). I can't really do this with any other cue I've tried as easily.

I know it is revolutionary new movement there....all kinds of mumbo-jumbo about stroking straight and something about not using excessive spin...go figure...some people just swear by them....

I have tried quite a few custom break cues. Mike Gulyassy, Steve Lomax, Pete Ohman, and Andy Gilbert top my list. Pat Diveney makes really good ones as well. One of the big keys that I have noticed is just a break cue Vs. Jump/Break makes a hell of a difference in how solid they hit. If you want a really really good break cue, just buy a break cue. If you want a strong jumper get a straight jump cue. I am in the process of buying each seperately now and it will be a really good investment in my game.
