Decided to play in the weekly tournament at radys tonight. Hadnt played in a while. Started of teal bad and lost my first match. No big deal. Played as bad as I could. ANyway, next match I am starting to feel it and just run out from everywhere. Win 5-0. Win the next 4 or 5 matches just steamrolling people. I am now playing to get in the finals. Am down 4-2 on the last rack. The guy I am playing is running some balls. The 4 and 7 ball are closer together. He shoots makes the ball and ends up running out to win. Only problem was, I called a foul on him for a bad hit and he looks at me and says, "No it wasnt." Drops down and just starts shooting again. No delay. No,"What do you mean?" Nothing. Just drops and shoots. I showed the director about it and showed him the setup and he said it had to have been a bad hit due to where the CB went. I have always been a good sport. If I lose, oh well. But that just pissed me off. I wish I knew how to do that table diagram stuff to show everyone what it looked like, but alas I cant. Anyway, I had to vent.

Waahhhhhhhhh !
Real hard for TD to make a call on a shot that he didn't see .
Heck , sometimes it hard to make the call on a shot you're watching .
If you're opponent chooses to play like that , what can you do ?
Fistfight ?
How much did the match mean to you ?

Dude,

Give up the fight right now. Every player on this forum will tell you you should have got a ref BEFORE the guy shot. Regardless of whether the guy made a bad hit or not, even if he hit the wrong ball without even touching the right one, the shot goes to the shooter without a ref. Period! Sorry to be so blunt. It is a lesson of playing pool. Even when playing with friends. If your opponent does not want to give up the cue ball, you're screwed.

I'm afraid that Lyn is right. The TD can't make a call on it if he didn't see the infraction. And when a call is in dispute and there's no way to settle it, it's generally assumed that it goes to the shooter.

I personally take it as a learning experience. I learn everything I need to know about a person by how they react to a questionable hit. I've had 2 hits that were very very bad I have called people out on and they have denied. I don't even argue I just simply say "really?" and give myself a nice internal chuckle. People who can't be honest with themselves are pathetic and probably very miserable people.

Similar thing happened to me at a Cue Club tourney in Vegas a couple years ago. Blatant bad hit, but I didn't call a ref.

You can't just call a ref on every hit that might be a problem, and you don't know who you can trust until you play em.

Guys that that make the game less enjoyable and make a good case for public stoning.

Reverse the role. You are the shooter, you think you made a good hit and your opponent says "Foul". You know you didn't foul so you say so and then continue to play.

Now your opponent is explaining to everyone that will listen (including the TD) that it was a foul. It really makes you out to be the 'bad' guy at the table.

If you think there might be a bad hit when your opponent is shooting, tell him immediately that you want someone to watch the hit.

Play is suspended at that time and not resumed until the person (ref or TD) is in position to watch the hit.

If the shooter shoots before the person is in position to watch the hit and tells the shooter to proceed. Not only is it a foul, but it is an "unsportsmanlike" foul that has the consequences of up to being disqualified from the tournament.

IMO you didn't act when you should have and ended up HOSING yourself.

The shooter has rights also. Just because you think the shooter fouled, doesn't mean they did.

All points are known. Truth is, they werent so close to need the ref. He played the cue off the 7 into the 4 in order to get the shape that was needed and hoped I wouldnt notice. I am in no way a complainer or bad sport. I have lost many tournaments in the past. And I am sure I will lose more in the future. Thought I knew the guy I was playing but apparently I dont. But in all seriousness, if a player cant call a bad hit when he sees one, why not just dispute it every time you foul? hell even if you dont touch the ball, just say you did and you never give ball in hand again in a match. Anyway, I was just venting last night. I guess the next time we play, I will get the TD to watch our entire match and let the guy know why.

what you playing 8ball or 9ball?????/

Last weekend

I was playing in a tournament last weekend, and there was a close shot, so my opponent called the TD over to watch it. I spun the ball in to make sure it was a good hit, but she called it a bad hit. I didn't want to argue the point, so I let it go. By the way, split hits go to the shooter.

Anyway, I did win the match, and the tournament. In fact, I've won 4 local tournaments over the past 2 weekends, 3 8 ball and 1 9 ball.

you gotta make him stop. that's crazy disrespectful to just write you off and keep shooting like that. even if you'd been wrong you'd still be justified in being upset

Agreed- once players place the responsibility with a 3rd party they forfeit any input on the ruling (after the shot...before? talk it up!)

I will call for a watch on a close hit when I am the one at the table if my opponent doesn't do it first. Not sure if my opponents ever consider this disrespectful or somehow out of line, but I think it is prudent and a way to avoid any BS.
