Hi John,

I'm sure Gabe thinks you are too......I can recall when you steamrolled him as if he weren't even there towards the finals at the US Open a few years ago. (yes, I still remember that match  )

All of you pros make it exciting at every tournament I've seen. :) But I'm happy for both Shannon & Gabe in this one. :clapping: He's coming for Thanksgiving and can pick up dessert now. :)

Whew, Charlie sure had alot of playing to do yesterday. It seems the way the brackets fall into place at some tournaments turn out that way for some pro. This was the first time I had ever seen him play (heard lots of stories). I really enjoyed it. :)

I agree, and I was also impressed to see Nick Varner make the finals of the one pocket. He was winning championships before many of his opponents were born.

Great job Gabe.

Schmitty and I want want to play the rubber match on the golf course with you and Corey, same bet but winner gets to pick the place for lunch this time...

Hi alstl,

Funny you said that, but how very true! I was just telling my husband (Gabe's step-father) yesterday, that when I was 5 months pregnant with Gabe, he was till in the womb! - I attended a tournament in Austin, Tx. with Gabe's dad - Bob.

Who was one of the hottest players there that everyone feared the most? The name 'NICK VARNER'! (And that was 32 years ago!)

You have a right to be proud! I admire Gabe's game, he is very creative!

Thank you little bubba.

I'm sure he really works on that creativity when he is up against such awesome players in the tournaments, to try to catch a win. They are all so phoenomenal.

This one got me crying though, after reading a bit of INsidePool's article on it......

"....Nick Varner proved why he is a one-pocket hall of famer by losing to only Gabe Owen in the entire one-pocket dlivision........Gabe showed cool and confident demeanor throughout the week and after winning the title dedicated it to his recently cancer diagnosed step-father. It demonstrated that his motivation in the tournament was not only a claim to fame but a sincere and heartfelt drive...." :crying:

Gabe is a true champion in every respect! He carries himself like a pro and is always considerate of his fans as well. You would never know that he may be the best One Pocket player alive right now (no offense to a certain magician :)). Gabe remains humble and never blows his own horn.

Nick played great and gave all his opponent's fits except for one guy. Gabe beat him 4-0 in both their matches! That about says it all.

I didn't realize you posted here. I have a question. Did Gabe start playing when he was a little kid? The reason I ask is because he cups the cue in the palm of his hand like a little kid whose hands are too small to hold the cue and I figured maybe he picked it up then and never changed.

I sure enjoyed watching them all on the feed. Thanks to all that made that possible.

Hi alstl,

He played some when at his dad's, on his pool table, beginning about age 5 or so. (we were divorced and had the visitation thing going back then) Gabe was a serious little league/baseball player from about age 7 to 14 or so (I have all the trophies from those years). He then began getting into pool, and at about 15 yrs old got very serious about pool. He's always just loved sports.

I have no clue and can't answer about why he or anyone else holds their cue the way they do. (sorry)
:) :)
