The recent thread on meanings behind usernames brought up some great player monikers, such as Williebetmore, Rackmsuckr, Straybullet etc.

What are some of the great monikers (nick-names) that you have run across in the pool world?

A couple that come to mind in my travels are:
Ming the Merciless
Beastmaster
Pythagoras
Manila (As in a manila folder...folds easily under pressure)
Ritz (As in the cracker...cracks under pressure)
These were just local players in Australia so I haven't given their names.

btw: I've never had a decent moniker labelled on me, so for the IPT I was thinking of going with "The Shanghai Shotmaker". Any recommendations?

Welll... I thought about it for a long time... (maybe a fraction of a second) and the one I came up with actually sounds pretty good...

Colin "Cleanser" Colenso

We could call you Triple C! :)

I kinda like it.

U are so quick witted and I loved it, Debra

My fiancé and I were sitting here thinking of names. We were having fun here, so don't be hatin'. Here is the list so far:

Colin "Fortune" Colenso (Because you always have something nice to say for every situation...like the cookies...I know your thinking, "Those Americans and their fortune cookies")

Colin "Pick-Pocket" Colenso (He always gets the ball in the pocket he picks and he gets the cash from the customer)

Colin "Rickshaw" Colenso (because his opponent is always trailing behind)

Colin "The Nuke" Colenso (I wouldn't use this one if you have a weak break.)

Colin "Colzilla" Colenso (He plays like a monster and he's China's answer to Godzilla.)

Colin "The Shaolin" Colenso (That Scorpion Style is no match for his Mantis/Dragon Style.)

Colin "The Cue Bender" Colenso (We were thinking of your avatar)

Colin "Quicksand" Colenso (cuz when you meet em...YER GOIN' DOWN!

Colin "Bullocks" Colenso (When he's done, the balls are gone. [see definition of bullocks])

Colin "The Castrator" Colenso (By definition, He deprives one of their virility and/or spirit)

Colin "The Killer" Colenso (just don't call him Francis)

haha....thanks for the name suggestions guys :D
Cleanser?...cause I have to go to the bathroom before every match? lol
It's a shame Bender doesn't start with a C, I like to bend the balls ;)
All braggish monikers seem a bit presumptious I guess...unless everyone else mention you by that name naturally.

Anyway, what about cool / funny monikers for other players?

"The Taco Taker"

Old history - in the mid 60's to mid 70's Louie Melendez (a Phoenix resident) was a great local player. He beat most everybody in Phoenix and didn't do too bad with the road players that came thru town.

A high $$$ match had been set up between him and another very good player. The other player had been doing a bit of bragging and when Louie showed up to play - the other guy said he had no money and his backer hadn't showed up.

Louie was not a happy camper. His opponent was sitting at the lunch counter (this was at the old Golden Cue in Phoenix)and eating a plate of tacos. Louie told him to "get his ass over to the table and he'd play him for those taco's!" Louie killed just drilled the guy and after that - was known as "The Taco Taker."

Jennie, some of yours are listed with their real names in the very extensive list I assembled in the OnePocket.org 'History' section:
http://onepocket.org/Nicknames.htm

But Bus Driver Ronnie happens to be one I don't have a real name for -- can anyone help?

I dunno Colin, I think a nickname has to be "put on you" by someone else you played, or in the pool room. You may risk sounding like a pro wrestler, or one of the lame ass names they put on the Women in the WPBT if you do your own.

The 2 guys I learned the game from were

Dave Marks...aka "Pineapple"....I guess because he looked Hawaiian?

Andy Toth...aka "Great white hope" He went to an all black college on a basketball scholarship, aka "A monster"....aka "killer"

Later.....Gerry...no nickname at his moment, but leaning towards

dumbasswhogivesouttoomuchweight....what do you think?:)

I prefer DAWGOTOC, Dumb Ass Who Gives Out The Orange Crush:p

You're right about giving yourself a nick name...stinks of personal PR.

Donovan suggested "Shanghai" which kind of makes sense and sounds ok. I'm neither fat or skinny, and I don't want to be Shanghai Medium.:o ...:D

When you can take the 8-ball from my hand, you shall be called "Grasshopper." Cuz you hop all over the world playing pool.

Yeah, I've been calling him Shanghai in the PM's since he got his new pool table. I figure a guy who lives there and has a table by the same name is kind of destined for it.

I didn't put that on my list of funny ones, because I thought it really should be that.

Since all this started here is what I found out about the name that just sealed it for me:

The two characters in the name "Shanghai" literally mean "up/above" and "sea". Pool being another name for a body of water...I mean that is just cool.

I like Colin "The Shanghai Shotmaker" Colenso as well, but you have to be able to back a nickname like that up (I'm sure Colin can).

One of my personal favorite nicknames and certainly the most unique belongs to Alain "The Dancing Bear" Martel.

I just knew someone would jump on that!:) Actually I used that name because on our trip up north for Christmas I gave a guy WAY too much weight (8 to 5 and the break) just so He'd play some one pocket. I had zero wiggle room, and he got out from the break a couple times! Anyway, live and learn, that's the last time I EVER give up the break!....Gerry
