Some of you who were at Dave Piona's memorial service will recognize this black player from all the photos on display.
Please allow others in AZ world to guess who this player is. He has broken all records and is the best black player of
all time with out a doubt.

Who is he?

I didn't know Jerry Rice played pool, but I'm fairly certain he couldn't beat Mark Tadd or Cliff Joyner. Maybe Cliff if the bet on the rail was right, but doubtful.

He's in good company, with George Michaels, Billy Aguero and Dave Piona. Wonder how much that night out cost him?

Delusions

We pool players are loaded with delusions. We consider ourselves "athletes". And we call our parlor room game a "sport". After you understand that pool players are deluding themselves with these two falsehoods, you can then understand why we grumble about not being paid and not receiving sponsorship from "corporate America".

A real athlete who is undeniably great like Jerry Rice would see pool for the true silliness it represents.

That's why he's hanging with all the pool players, he likes looking silly.

Jerry Rice????

"Ribdoner" from Memphis you got it right. The picture is of Jerry Rice the ALL TIME football leading point receiver in the country. One record that may never be broken.

You guys on AZ are just too good. I feel sorry for any man or woman pool player that gets on American's Most Wanted list, for if they showed the photo of the pool player on AZ that player has about
5 minutes to get out of Dodge.

Four talented guys and combined pool playing years I would say about 110 years and 23+ years for Jerry? Thanks guys for all talent that you have shared with us over the years!!

So who's the best black pool player of all time? For that matter, who's the best right now?

Today, I would respectfully submit the names of Ike Runnels and Cliff Joyner as the best African-American players.

In times gone by, there were many as well, i.e., Cecil Tugwell, Bugs, Piggy, Strawberry, and Shake and Bake, just to name a few. :)

Best black pool player

If the person you ask for an opinion is old enough, s/he will probably nominate Harlem's James Evans as the best black pool player of all time; he was frequently mentioned in the same breath with Mosconi. Evans could not play tournaments because of his race; one lunatic committee even promised him entry if he would claim to be Native American! In Chicago, we had Johnny "Cannonball" Chapman (also called "Lefty") and Javanley "Youngblood" Washington. Both came well before today's well-known and stricken "Bugs" Rucker, and both were at least as good. Cisero Murphy, of course, would rank right up there, but, like Evans, had only one game, 14.1.
