Thanks Don for moving that pic to this thread. Were gonna add more pics to this thread in a couple days.
I dont know how many Szams I own, I never counted. Its not a contest anyways. John Mars has a fantastic collection of Gus's i'm real happy for him, My collection of Barrys is stronger than the Gus's I have, it just worked out that way. Most of my Gus's are player cues except my 6pt and 8pt. I passed on one Gus that Ken had-I think he might regret selling it, it wasnt a huge monster but it wasnt a player. This was about a year and a half ago. I'm very satified with my Gus collection and I have just a couple more Barrys I want then I will be done collecting them. I do need a Gus Box cue, I forgot about that. Its hard to find Gus's or Barrys sometimes the cues find me, and when they do at a fair price I make a move, I have seen a few times where the owners priced themselfs out of a deal. It really takes a long time to put together a collection. Mark Griffen had one hell of a Gus collection a few years back that he sold off, man he had the monsters in that collection, WOW were tehy big, I wish I would have known when he sold them. I think Lucky got a few of them, perhaps most of them.
My take on collecting isnt about how many, its more about the actual cues themselfs, a good representation of Gus's and barry's work is what my goal has been from day one, not about how many I can buy. Like that Gus I mention a minute ago that Ken had it was below a MONSTER but way above a 4 veneer player, it was damn near new, it would have fit into my collection nicely, I have a 6pt about the rarest gus and a 8pt and the cool thing is they kinda match, they arnt loaded up-which I really like, basic 6,8 pt gus's which might be harder to find than loaded up ones. I just know I love them. then I have the Rosewood/rosewood GSB my all time favorite cue. I could have bought GSB #1 for $6500 back in about 90 or 91, I played with it for 45 minutes using tan chalk. I passed on it, John Mars ownes it now-thats a cool thing, I never would have thought tht 20 years ago.
Its things like this that are what I like about cue collecting, and the internet has made cue collecting even more fun, I'm a player first and cue collector second, I havent met a cue I didnt like. And I got a email form Laurie yesterday, I have a crispy brand new SW waiting for me in Vegas-think I aint happy??? I will post pics of it soon as I get to Vegas, its a sexy cue.
happy new year,
Eric:smile:
