2 Gus Szamboti cues
Silver Member
I am the original owner of this Gus Szamboti cue. I order this cue from Gus
in September, 1977 and received it July 13, 1979. Whew! Thats a long time to wait for a cue.

Since this was my second Gus cue, I played with it very little. Its all original, finish, wrap, even original Champion tips on both shafts.

Specs: 59" long, 20 oz., 13.5 mm shafts
ebony and birdseye, stainless steel joint,
6 maple windows in butt. I ordered green and yellow vaneers, but they look like orange and bluish-green. The price is $9,500.

I will bring this cue to St. Louis Saturday October 8, 2011.

Ragbug74 is going to post pictures for me below. (Many thanks.)

Original Gus, Sea Turtle Fellini, how great is that? Do you have the shipping box and receipt from Mr. Szamboti?

Boxes were thrown away in 1987 when I moved.
I never had receipts, but I do have a hand-written note from Gus concerning a new tip.

Damn, this is like an omen. You received the cue on my 13th Birthday on July 13th and are asking $13,000...lol.

Talk about strange. But I would like to see some larger pictures.

And...your 13th birthday was on Friday the 13th. This is a sign from God. You need to buy this cue. All signs point to it. Do it. Come on. You know you want it. What are you waiting for? You're not getting any younger. Go for it, dammit. Its there. Waiting for you. Reach out to it. Its a beautiful thing. Where do you live? I'll bring it over. Just say the word. My car is running. Let's go.

I took this cue to the Midwest Cue Show. Everyone who saw it was impressed with its "like new" condition. However, I am lowering the price due to market and economic conditions.

Thanks for the interest.

To me, there is nothing classier than an old Szamboti w/ gorgeous fellini case. I wish I had a spare $11K to buy it for myself!

Just out of curiosity, is the 59" an even 29.5" split? Great cue. I've hit with a 60" Gus and it plays lights out!

See you in Dayton, my birthplace!

I'll give you kudos on 2 counts:

1) Ordering a Gus in 1977.

2) Keeping it.

Thanks for the show.

My Respect

I was in the Ball Room in Tom's River only weeks after Gus died. Needless to say there were a couple guy's that were looking to sell their Szam's thinking the value would skyrocket immediately. Tony Catucci got upset over it and let 'em know it. If you knew Tony, you know what I'm talking about. Your cue is a testament to what it means to have a collectible. Gus didn't always feel his most ornate cues were his most highly prized, but were all excellent value for the money. IMHO,your cue certainly merits asking respectable investment. Thirty Years from now,I'd rather have the Szam than a 401K.
Good Luck.
