Gus Szamboti cue on ebay

For the price of this cue I am surprised no one has made a bid on, I hope some of the more knowledgeable posters add some information here, what do you all think is it real ?

With all of the shady goings on with the last Szamboti that sold on the Bay, no way I would touch it unless an escrow service was used along with a letter of authenticity. That is a big chunk of money to spend on something that might or might not be the real deal.

What shady stuff happened on the ebay cue?

here is what he said

BARRY HAD THE CUE IN 1990 AND VERIFIED THAT IT WAS HIS DAD MADE IT BUT I DID NOT GET A LETTER. I WILL SEND THE CUE TO BARRY AND HE WILL AUTHENTICATE IT. I HAVE ALREADY MADE ARRANGEMENTS WITH HIM. HE WILL THEN FORWARD THE CUE.

Here's another Gus made in the mid 80s for comparison. The cue if original is really in amazing condition for 25 years. My guess is that it may have been refinish..even still those shafts are like new.

Duc.

i really think he should send it to barry now.. and then relist the auction.. i think it would be in his best interest and also would prove he isnt a fake

I wrote to him for curiosity. He will only send it back for authentication only if it's a Buy It Now. LOL.....so, if you bid on it regularly...he's not sending it.

So far ZERO bids. That would be too much to gamble on a cue...but it would be real good if it was a REAL Szamboti!

I said that I would only bid if he agrees that I can pay him after Barry validate the cue as a GUS with a LOA but I think he would like payment up front first. I'm not sure if the fee for the LOA is going to be covered by him if BUY IT NOW is not used. Also asked for additional pics for the joint pin.

Ask if everything was original, he said "CUE IS UNUSED BY ME OR ANY ONE ELSE SINCE I HAVE OWNED IT." I believe he said he owned this cue for 25 years...so the condition of this Gus is the best that I've seen to date.

Everything looks right with the cue but the condition of the cue raises a red flag for me. I would love to bid on this cue if Barry can vouch for the fact that he validated the cue verbally in 1990.

Duc.

It was used by him! He stated in the description he used a Joss shaft. It is the early stitched veneer ringwork like both of mine which dates it more than 25 years old. It was 5 years old, or so when he got it? Anytime I see NO RETURNS I feel it needs to be returned and steer clear. Ron <------Thinks if it was genuine it would be $7500+ with a reserve!

DUC,
THose shafts looks too new, TOO CLEAN and NO grain at all to be from Any Szam that I have seen,
By Gus or Barry"

Looks like a good cue that is not being auctioned properly.

Probably a bargain.....................but its a risk.

I have one that looks newer that that but it still has the original tips installed by Gus when he built the cue shortly before his death. This cue can be bought for slightly less than the starting bid on the one on ebay.
