Would something like this have a chance to work? What if everybody just on AZ Billiards and then in turn everyone here got a few more people each to e-mail 3-5 corporations to ask them to sponsor a pool tour. We would pledge that we would support their corporations if they did by buying their products. Brands and corporations like Levi, Walmart, Kmart, The Gap. I would look at who sponsors other sports like NASCAR, Bowling, golf, and poker. I know this is really a longshot and I’m not smoking that whacky weed at this time. It might be worth a try…no? An interesting idea for sure, and if such an initative were put together, I'd certanly support it.

Still, I think there is a theoretical problem here. On the positive side, yours is a plan to make the world of pool and its players an important demographic to some corporations. The negative is that corporate marketing departments are inclined to focus on the demographic groups that current and historical consumer patterns show are the ones worth selling to, not the ones that will vow a promise to purchase.

Corporations tend to want to see the sales before funding a specific demographic group, and that could be a problem.

I see your point. I'm sure just about eveything has been tried or a least tossed around on how to pull pool up. Johnnyt

Well

I tried this on a smaller scale to 4 different companies, and still no
"Pool Shoes" ...... lol

'At this time' ??? .... hmmmmm .......

I was denied sponsorship by Trojan condoms. They told me that buying one extra small condom every 5 years wasn't enough to justify sponsorship.

Much corporate sponsorship of competitive events is driven by the CEOs of public companies who love to spend their shareholders' money.

The CEOs have various motivations: like to be around jocks; dabble in the sport themselves; boost the communities where the head office is located by sponsoring events; or seek an Olympic gold vicariously.

I have never heard of sponsorship resulting from write-in requests from the public.

I wonder why beer / alcohol, tobacco, and pharmaceuticals don't sponsor pool events. May sound funny, but I go to the pool hall, and everybody is either drinking, smoking/chewing, or talking about their medical problems.

Or popping pills. Johnnyt

It would be great for pool to get large sponsers.

As an example, if Brunswick could become a subsidiary of Coors.
Or we could write to the bca, wpa, apa, etc.. requesting they seek bigger sponsers outside of the billiard industry i.e. Toyota or Ford.

Good concept though Johnnyt.

Chance? Yes. Probability? Not impossible. I believe that it may have to deal with delivery and numbers.... only cuz of the sport itself. Sure contacting them would be the first step. But I think it's best to seek the personal goal of the corporation and aim on the perspective.
Then there's organizing the whole darn thing, track it's progress, and such. I am certain most pro's, amateurs, recreational players who knows people in the biz whether it be gas, financial corp, alcohol and such. Approaching them in the right manner would lead in the right direction.

If a group/individual can create a nice presentation/package, it will help. Aiming it toward their goal might even be better.

My 2 cents.

Tobacco cannot be advertised on television (see Camel Pro Billiards Tour).

If anyone does organize a petition or a mass email to particular sponsors and/or the International Olympic Committee, we might be able to round up a couple million or more signees for the project.

If Billiards ever makes the Olympics, we are in. Billiards is already in a few Independent School System curriculums.

A written petition sent or taken to every Pool Room we know of, would be a great start.

Boycotts work well too.

Camel tried sponsoring men's pool in the late 1990's. Gordon's, the maker of gin and vodka, was a WPBA sponsor in about 1996 or 1997. Neither had a terribly good run.
