Hi there,

I'm about to pull a ticker on my first custom cue. My choices are BCM and Mark Smith cues. So, I would like to have some input from those who had some experiences from both cues. Also, if you have other custom cues to recommend, please feel free to do so. My budget is $700 MAX.

I personally have never hit with either of those cues, but I have hit with an
Ariel Carmeli, and it hit nice. This one looks like a lot of cue for $ 700. I
would use Fast-n-loose as escrow because the seller is new here. Maybe he
does have some good referals though. Worth a lookie at least. Good luck
with your search.

Fast-n-loose is the nickname here for Marcus Solt. He's one of the most
respected members here on AZ. He provides an escrow service here for
anyone that would like to make a deal. He would be a middle man between
the buyer and the seller for a small fee. The seller sends the cue to Marcus
and you would send the payment to him. If all is well with the cue and it is
as described, he would then send the payment to the seller and the cue to
the buyer. This would take out any chance of a scam. Just check out the
bottom sticky in this wanted/for sale section. I've personally done a few
deals with Marcus, and he's one of the best for sure. Just look at his 200
plus transactions here.

I am getting ready to order an LP custom cue from Lee Peppers. You get alot for your money from him and from what I have read his cues are real nice.

I have never owned a Mark Smith cue, but the ones I have seen have been very nice. I can't speak for how they play, though.

I have owned many BCM (Bryan Mordt) cues, and have had cues built by him to my specifications. His workmanship is first-rate, and they are super players. You certainly will not be disappointed with a BCM.

I had a BCM. not only a great player but I had a few chances to speak with Bryan. A great guy and a great cue maker. I love his work.

Great call buddy! I had Lee make me a cue too. I wish I could have kept it,
but needed some cash. I think that Lee still has that John Davis full spliced
blank. He should be able make a sweet cue with that blank for $ 700.00.

i acquired a mark smith cue here on az that i am selling because i just picked up fancier mark smith cue, and i can tell you that it plays better than any cue i have shot with bar none, imo........ i will never use anything else, and the quality is remarkable but what would you expect from someone that had ron haley as his mentor! just my 2 cents

You cannot go wrong with a BCM cue. The fit and finish are first rate and the most important quality, the hit, is as about as good as they come. Upstanding guy to get a custom cue from (Bryan Mordt).

Really? Isn't he the one with all the peeping tom pictures of my g/f on his avatar? LOL.

On a serious note, BCM all the way.

I can't speak for Mark Smith as I've never seen any of his work but Bryan Mordt is a top notch cue maker and a really nice guy. We recently hosted the West Coast Cue Show and Bryan and drove all the way from Arizona to be a part of the show. His cues are very clean and simple. He is a perfectionist with every detail that goes into his cues. You would not be disappointed dealing with him.

I haven't shot with either one. But, have seen both. as far as looks go. you will not be dissappointed by either maker. Bother makers are first rate and will do whatever you want. I have never heard any1 say that a BCM or a Mark SMith cue hit like crap. So in my opinion it's all up to you to pic the one that seems to fit your style better.

If you do a search he post on here .I have seen a lot of his cue for sometime and never hit a ball with his cue. But they look really good..

I've owned both and thought they played similarly - medium stiff hit, in a typical flat-faced, big screw sort of way. Both cues appeared be well built. I remember liking the taper on the BCM slightly better; both the butt and the shaft.
