Have you improved due to your participation here?

I've definitely improved.

The first part of my improvement came when JB convinced me through a well reasoned argument that improving at this game is way more about hard work than it is natural talent. I had reached the point where I felt I had reached the limits of my natural ability.

Once I rejected that notion I started from scratch and totally reworked my game. I totally changed my fundamentals based on things on learned specifically on here.

Before AZ I was just another dude banging balls around in their basement but since I've been on here my game has reached a new level. I've been a part of 2 State Championship teams and I've won one all by my lonesome and I now routinely beat the 10 Ball ghost on a difficult table (not all the time by any means). There's so much information to be found on AZ that if you haven't learned something while you are here than you're not just wasting your time but you're probably wasting ours as well.

I know your time is important to you. Sorry for wasting it. You probably improved for the most part by spending time on the table and playing better players. Playing the ghost in your basement will only take you so far. I love the ghost but he cannot talk to you or show you anything.

Yes, I think I have....

I have learned quite abit about using inside english.

I have learned alot about cues and cases.

I have learned more at onepocket.org, but this site was better on buying and selling, and the cue gallery which I enjoy.

What? No books? No DVDs? No aiming systems? No lasers on my cues? GTFO!

From the AzB I've learnt a lot on how to insult people.
From the AzB predecessor RSB I learnt a lot on pool physics and how to insult people.

Nope. I am one of those hard headed feel players that has to HAMB and play better players. I will watch youtube for enjoyment. What can I say. I learn by doing.

there is no doubt that due to this forum I was able to win money, trophies and friends! the best forum I ever encountered. and thanks to all that helped.....

I am now in my mid fifties and my best playing days are behind me even though I did win the last two tournaments I played in. But even though I have been building cues for 27 years I have improved some from things I have learned on the cuemakers forum.

Oh lighten up....I was just making a point.

Anybody that comes on this forum for any length of time and hasn't learned a thing should seriously question their approach to participating on a forum.

I understand that playing the ghost will only take me so far but it's a definite measuring point and I do better against the ghost today than I did years ago. So that's a sign that I've improved at least from an aptitude stand point. I don't actually get out to compete nearly as much as I would like so pool is mainly a solitary pursuit for me. I'm okay with that because that's when pool is really at its most beautiful -- when you are alone with just some balls, a cue, and a pool table, while just listening to the sound of the balls hitting the back of the pockets.

Oh and the ghost can show you many things but the most important thing he can do is put you in your place.

I can say without a doubt that there are a few things ive learned due to azb that have helped me advance as a player. The rest has been a never-ending amount of table time. I will also add that ive met some pretty cool people and my overall pool knowledge is much greater than if i just hung out in the bar.

I promise to split my prize money with every one of them when I win the US Open (caveat: only applies IF I get paid

Just don't wait 5 years cause Sam will knock you out of the tourney before you even cash with all the knowledge he's gained here.

I've learned a lot on here that has helped improve my game. This is undoubtedly the largest resource of pool knowledge on the face of the earth.
Anyone that states they haven't learned much to help them improve isn't a serious player at all. And has no real desire to improve.

From aiming, to kicking, to banking, to positional routes, to stroking, to mental attitude, to applying english, deflection, squirt, swerve, tangent lines, the list goes on and on and on. No one knows all of it. And, a good amount of the knowledge has come about because of this forum. Without Bob Jewett, Dr. Dave, and others testing what has been posted on here, much of the known info would not be available. Because of them, many things that were thought to be true have been found out to be wrong.

If one takes the info on here and actually applies it to the table, there is only one direction one can go, and that is for their game to go up.

I wasn't trying to be heavy and I was just trying to make a point also. That point being that not everybody is the same. What works for you might not work for me and vice versa. If I did drills for a half hour I would go bonkers. I have seen some guys do drills for hours. Some guys play by themselves for hours and I would just be banging balls after about an hour. Some of the guys that walk in the poolroom immediately look at you and say "Wanna Play" as soon as they walk in the door. Everyone's different.

I would say that I have improved due to AZB, in directly. This has become somewhat of a resource center, not always the most correct info, but there is a lot of info on many different aspects of the game. Whether its how to play, equipment or info on videos, AZB is easily navigated to gain the info. As to the individuals who post, over time you kind of learn who has knowledge, and who is just spews crap. But such is life, everyone has an opinion on everything, and when assessing the info, its up to you to filter it.

I think I play a little better because of AZ. I know my cue collection is better. I also have a lot less money...

 Me too !

Specifically, like Maxx I have learned about some truly great books here including Banking with the Beard and Play Great Pool. Also there have been some excellent "how would you play this" threads thanks to Jude and others.

Something to think about. Have you?

I know I have. The knowledge here is immense. Learning about matches, watching streams, reading about strategies and physics. Equipment reviews. Access to experts. I know more about the game and play better due to AZ.

How could a person not?

Two words: Dr. Dave

One things for sure, though. The "cue" knowledge that's been dispensed here is worth more than a liberal arts degree from most universities... Not a joke.

I would bet without this forum I may have lost all interest completely. I haven't been in the pool room for like 4 months now, although I hit balls around at home. This forum keeps me thinking about pool even though it doesn't seem to mean much to me anymore.

"Have you improved due to your participation here?"

Only thing that's happened to me since I signed up is that I've bought
more pool related stuff than ever before. Cues, shafts, tips, tip tools and on and on.
None of it has done anything for my game. As a matter of fact my LD
period brought my game backwards for a long while because I kept
believing LD's were supposed to better your game, only based on
what I had been reading here.
In my case my game came back when I stopped using them.
Guess it's just a matter of what you're used to.

I lurked here for quite a few years (even had an old account which I forgot about) but then CJ Wiley and Dr.Dave, with how approachable and knowledgeable they were in the game, made me want to go vocal and start asking questions.

Without a doubt, my interest and time investment into the game has skyrocketed because of AZ. From the active discussions, I finally stepped out and took lessons as well and increased my learning.

For sure, I not only play better because of AZ but my enjoyment of the sport from player and spectator has gone into the stratosphere. I thanked Jerry personally at the last turning stone for this very fact.
