I have a match scheduled today. I am a big underdog.

I have been playing well recently and just want to see how far along I have come.

I did not ask for weight.

Playing one of the best players in the area as cheap as he will play.

Which is it?

both:D j/k ... good luck

It really depends on how you think you will do. Meaning, if you think you have no chance then you are beat before you even start the match and its stupidity, but if you think you have a chance and play thinking that way then I think you have heart. The only way to get better is to play people that are better than you to push you.

I feel if play great I have a chance to win.

You need to go into the match knowing you are going to win not thinking you might have a chance if you play great. Go into it knowing you are going to play your game and win. Does that make sense?

Actually, it's neither. It's an investment. By making a game in which you are the clear underdog, you are, essentially, investing in your own development as a competitor.

If you were betting more than you could comfortably afford to lose, then it would be stupidity.

I know what I need to do to win. Execute.

I'm going to play like a champion today!

Playing great players cheap is great if you learn things. Had a buddy who was lucky enough to play Chip C. cheap one hole. His game improved by leaps and bounds. Look at it as cheap lessons.

Since I know you I may be a little biased but you definitely have some heart. You may make some very questionable monetary decisions at times but lacking in gumption you are not.

I would say you have heart and intelligence. Playing better players should bring out your best game and while it can really suck to lose there is always something that can be learned. Worst case if you were to lose just consider it pool instruction:thumbup: Good luck, I hope you win.

Heart or stupid?? Neither. It's smart, if it doesn't cost an arm and leg. Hope you learn something and it was worth the price of a cheap lesson.

^^^exactly^^^

...and, the day you do start winning against what "used to be" better players; it feels SO good.

I'm with mr. sjm on this one. If you're betting something that would matter to you, you'd be stupid. It sounds like you're giving it a shot for the hell of it, which is more of a bet just to test yourself and possibly learn.

I've got a bit of a budget going on, so when I try to match up even with area champs, I'm being stupid(especially since half wouldn't risk a buck). Unless it's real cheap, ill keep to watching and playing them in league.

You knowing your the underdog, it's all heart.
Keep your head down and good luck.

Stupid...because if you happen to win nobody will play you unless they get more weight. Some guys hate money, if thats you then yes you have the heart of a lion.

HEART.

If you want to see where you stand then you have to stretch out and take on people who are supposedly better than you. Almost everyone who gets good does it by taking on better players and challenging themselves.

Joe Salazar told me that back in his day you would challenge a player and keep going back for more until you could beat him. None of the ducking and asking for the world all the time, just step up and play some.

Just don't play so cheap that it doesn't matter to you if you lose.
