Heart or stupidity??

Heartpidity??

I joke I joke... Well the fact that you question it, has me thinking? It's all relative. Depends on who you ask.

To the fearful who wouldn't bet $5 on their own gender = STUPIDITY

To the courageous who aren't sure if their manhood is small or if they just have abnormally large hands = HEART

In the end the only opinion that matters is your own. Matches aren't always decided by who is the more skilled. I know many skilled players who aren't mentally strong and they crumble at the first sign of no quit from their opponent.

Sometimes it can even boil down to a matter of who's "will to win" is greater. Vietnamese have a saying, " My life is bigger than His". Try not to view this saying materialistically. <-- is that even a word??

I agree with all the rest...it will make you a better player...it is an investment and if you can afford it the fastest way to step up..

I have a match scheduled today. I am a big underdog.

I have been playing well recently and just want to see how far along I have come.

I did not ask for weight.

Playing one of the best players in the area as cheap as he will play.

Which is it?

Neither, but it is an indication you want to find out where you stand. That is a good thing.

What game and how much, if I may ask?

Heart does not happen in the process of matching up. Heart happens when you play your best under pressure. The better player may beat you out of your money, but only you can lose heart.

But really, I think it is only stupidity if you give up control of both the matchup terms and the $amount of the bet.

Your point is made though, hard to tell the difference between heart and stupidity.

As a long term strategy, I'd say gambling straight up with players you know are better than you is probably not going to end well.

I feel if play great I have a chance to win.

Good for you! That's how I'd feel, otherwise even if I won I wouldn't have won.

And the money? I'm assuming the bet isn't life changing one way or the other, so what good is a spot besides a pre-game admission that you can't win.

Tournaments are only slightly different. In those circumstances you both give and take weight and are not specifically challenging one person. Rather, you draw them at random. However, I'm against spots even in tournaments. I much prefer adjusted money amounts as entry.

Also, on the other side of the coin, the better you get you begin to wonder what good all your work was for if you have to give it all away.

If it is "cheap" as you say, I'd consider it the cost of learning. I've done the same thing. If you're talking a few hundo or more, it's stupidity unless a few hundo is your chump change. As a player you have a responsibility to manage yourself such that you don't place yourself in situations where you are totally outclassed--unless it is a tournament.

You match up with your head and you play with your heart. Always remember 'it's not over until it's over'. You may know me from Chattanooga, if you do you know I don't give up.

you are paying your dues for your pool education
thats not stupid....
it heart
btw how didi you do????

I think you need to really focus on playing smart. I don't know what game you are playing, but knowing when to run out or play a safe will get you in a better position to win games. Sometime the better player doesn't like being tested.--Smitty

some advice...since you are asking

Match rescheduled for Saturday.

My opponent had car trouble.

Maybe hes ducking you!

As a potential underdog you should
- keep the races short
-arrive early, get in stroke on the table you are playing
-eat an hour or so prior, protein based meal, no sugar, drink fluids and pack a snack
- If you need a little weight ask for the last 2 or a game on wire. Better players hate called or wild ball spots since the luck factor is big.
- If you get a wild or called ball and have a pushout situation or a impossible kick...put your extra money ball in front of a pocket. Can lead to a combo for you and its instant pressure on him
- Know how to rack balls.
If you get the last 2 put 8 ball to under one opposite his or your break side. It seperates the last 2 as 9 is downtable often...makes his last 2 balls a little harder
If you get called or wild balls put them behind 9 on the same side he or you break from. Also , them move less than any ball in rack there, eccept maybe the 9. Put 2 ball opposite money ball. Money usually is in bottom pocket areas...2 can be right there for a combo.
If he breaks and you rack put them like this. Makes runout harder. Move money ball as above if its called or wild for you. Thjs below drops runout percentages from 5-8 balls a good 5-10% less. If you need to cool him off here is one way. It makes it harder for you of course, bu if hes running 3-4 and out of line / kicking then it favors you.

1
3-5
4-9-6
2-7
8

If you are the better player rack

1
3-2
6-9-5
8-7
4
Think about where the balls go, control the hit, play be wing ball or 1 in side. This will gwt you more wins than anything if you are an A speed or better player.

Let us know how it goes. I have a bunch of other racking ideas...some may be in the gray area....but nearly all the better players know them and use them.

He's not ducking me. Semi-pro players search out my speed.

Any suggestions for racking 1 pocket?

Maybe the 1-9 up front with the yellow matched up?

JK

Thanks for the advice. I will have to play around with your 9 ball racks. It's been a while since I watched Joe T's racking secrets.

Jt

JT secrets is good if you play on a perfect table conditions. I do only a big events. Staring down into the rack to play gaps is pointless on poolhall equipment most of us use. Knowing where th balls end up on you break, hit at different speeds depending on how a table playing is very repeatable. Making a guy travel up and down table on the first 4 balls in traffic is going to slow them down , no matter who they are.

As far as one hole goes no racking secrets to know. Dont play it too much...biggest error is selling out a shot, like most games.

I hope you takeitdown...nice to win. Other people's money spends the easiest.
