just a WAG, but I think this is why he/she posted...imo...
"I saw too many beatings of wives in my neighborhood while in the P.I. and have heard some goes on in America, but have not seen it or know anyone who has, as yet.
I must say that I am some put-off by a few of those from my own country by their actions against those they disagree with here. I was sad to read some of their posts, but not surprised. We are not all so agrumentive and gang associated.
Look at me, not thinking like an American and yet my family have all realized our dreams to be in such a wonderful country. I wish I could shake some of you to wake up and see the vast opportunity that surrounds you. So many careers that a person can have without worrying about police and others. In America the police truly do serve. Where I came from there is so much despair, hopelessness, and not many careers where corruption does not touch.
I could go on, but am so happy to be an American citizen that I want the whole world to know how I feel."

The policeman told me he would file charges for me and make sure the man was jailed for 10,000 pesos. If I file charges then threats would ensue, he said. I feel upset. My family imigrated when I was too young to understand what my parents were telling me. After being back for a few months I understand now."

Hopefully not, the truth is, this site is probably 90% male and an easy target for scamming gullible guys. "She" (it is just as likely Tonya was a man) may have targeted this site, knowing she might get some poor guy to maybe fork over some money, to "Help her through school" or some other such ploy. "She" appears, according to her 2nd post, to have been hit with a barrage of pm's just after her first post.
Oprah just aired a show about internet scams, including what they call romance scams, here is a whole site devoted to just these! They usually create a persona, like a student, and new to the country, that gives them a vulnerability (and if Tonya is actually in another country like Nigeria, it helps mask her/his language problems) and the pics, often look like the are professionally taken and are of very attractive people.
Anyway, I am glad y'all found her out and hope that no one has been or is being hustled...
if anyone has been contacted by this scammer and thinks they are extra special and we are all wrong.... Well you may be, but not in the way you think!
