Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated...

I've only been playing 2 years but my shot making has not improved as much as I think it should have by now... I'm about to start working on my aiming and would appreciate any suggestions for me...

I don't know how much of a difference this makes but I'm LEFT handed and RIGHT eye dominant...

Thanks in advance...

Just do it or do a search... you should get lots of those. Trying searching youtube and the forum. Tons and tons of info. Good luck, it isn't easy to pot.

There are tons of aiming threads on here . Use the AZ search for older threads .
A lot of opinions on that subject . You can read for hours

practice , practice, practice.
It's the only way to get improvement of any type in your game .
It doesn't matter if you're left handed and right eye dominant , because you can't change either of those things without surgery .
When you practice , forget about playing games or making balls for a while .
In fact , forget about having more than one ball for a while .
Do cueball drills until you can't stand it anymore , and then do more cueball drills . Start with the ball on the headstring , about 8"-10" off the side rail .
shoot the ball along the headstring to the opposite diamond with center ball at a moderate speed . The cueball should come back in a straight line and strike your cue .
Do this 50,000 times until you never get it wrong .
Then switch to doing the same drill the length , instead of width , of the table.
Do this 100,000 times .
When you can due this every single time , you are ready for an object ball.
line the cue ball and object ball up in a line along the same path you did the cueball drills , with about 12" between the balls . Hit the cueball into the object ball , and make the object ball hit the diamond .
Repeat 500,000 times , until the object ball never misses the diamond .
Next you can try it with a pocket .

These are the fundamentals , and there's really no substitute for them or miracle cure .
Do this enough times . and your mind will develop muscle memory , and you won't even realize you are aiming anymore.

Or just hire a qualified instructor in your local area to work with you . . . .

There is tons of threads on here about aiming, read through them and spend as much time as you can at the table. There are also a few guys on here offering dvds and assistance that will help you improve much faster.

Genomachino offers perfect aim, and was at least at one time offering to explain it on the phone and then if you were happy you could order his dvd. Great offer. Keep in mind its not an aiming "system" so to speak, but he will teach you how to get your eyes in the best position for you which can greatly reduce your learning curve.

Max Eberle has his DVD set on sale through today I believe. His dvds are some of the best that I have seen as far as complete material. He does a GREAT job of explaining alignment and stance, which are key components in the aiming proccess. Its a steal at $59 shipped.

Joe Tucker has several great learning aids. His aiming by numbers is very good at helping people understand what is really going on.

If your looking for a system, Stan Shuffett teaches Pro1. Its an offshoot of center to edge. He has been working on a DVD but I dont know how close it is to being released.

No matter what information you choose to follow, its going to take a LOT of work. There is no magic pill when it comes to becoming a player. But by seaking out good instructors or at least good instructional material you can speed things up quickly as long as you put in constructive practice time.

Do you know exactly where on the OB or ghostball your stick is pointed when you aim? Just noticing this detail on each shot can dramatically improve your brain's picture filing system, your learning curve and even your stroke.

Probably two of the better places to start on line is with the work of Mike Page and the work of Joe Tucker. Both are on Youtube just do a search. Tucker has some tools and techniques that are useful to anyone who is initially interested in this topic. Later you too can get in the flame wars about one or another technique. For now, stick with the simple but very effective teachers. There is an elegance in simplicity so don't be fooled thinking that simple is easy.

Stan Shuffett is releasing a DVD about his Pro One aiming system, that's all you really need. Ron V has great info as well and may be releasing some DVDs, that's the rumor anyway. Some really like Gene Albrecht's Perfect Aim.

Waiting until now to start to work on your aiming/pocking balls seems like a long time to me. Maybe by not being able to pocket more balls means you that you can beat the 9-ball ghost but not the 10-ball ghost with BIH or run 36 in 14.1, I don't know. But if you can only average running 3-5 balls w/o missing you probably need someone to look at your mechanics/ basic fundalmentals to see if there is something out of whack there. You can read or watch dvd's on basics and shotmaking and try to figure it out yourself, but you might save a lot of time finding a good instructor to take a look at your stance, bridge, stroke, and pre-shot routine. Good luck to you and welcome to AZ Forums Johnnyt

Hi there,

You can do everything you want but until you have the eyes in the right position it can sometimes seem like mission impossible.

Right now I am working on Perfect aim complete. The Perfect Aim video that kind of answers all the questions about how these eyes naturally work and how you can make yours work for you.

Once this gets done the cat will be out of the bag. Anyone should be able to buy the video and successfully learn Perfect aim from it. This has been my goal for the last 6 months and i think we finally have it.

Give me a call and I will help you see how this works. you will see amazing results almost immediately and with some hard work will improve in leaps and bounds.

715-563-8712 call anytime. If i'm tied up I'll call you back when i'm not.

No charge. just want to help................Looking forward to your call....

It has been my experience that most people actually know how to aim. If there is a problem with aiming, it's more likely knowing where to aim.

But you also have to consider that your problem may be in the delivery. You could be aiming correctly, but not getting the cue ball to go exactly where you want it to go.

A couple of hours with a good instructor might help you pinpoint your specific issue.

I agree with Steve here. Human beings have an innate ability to aim easily. Far more people who seek instruction because of perceived problems aiming, actually have trouble moving the cuestick in a straight line...particularly mutitple times, and even moreso under pressure. Once delivery problems are corrected, aiming problems go away for many players.

Thanks for all the replies...

I think I need somebody to look @ my mechanics...

Anybody know of an instructor or pro that gives lessons in the Memphis area..?

... “Aiming” is the act of visually determining the point of contact at which the cueball will strike the object ball. ...

Slim -- Several aiming methods do not involve determining the contact point, so your definition is not really universal.

“Aiming” is the act of visually determining the point of contact at which the cueball will strike the object ball.

“Shooting’ involves the physical activity of having the cuetip contact the cueball in such a way that the cueball moves toward and strikes the object ball at the chosen point of contact

In between these two actions is the act of aligning your body, stick and stroke with the balls so that the shooting action accomplishes the desired outcome. This "middle" activity is part "aiming" and part "shooting".
