I got tired of aiming at the fuzz around the edge of object balls and bought some pool glasses. Everything is very sharp but I can't seem to find that sweet spot on the object ball like I used to. My game's about 75 percent.

Has any one had the same problem? How long did it last?
I shoot about 15 hrs a week on 9-footers.:confused::(

Take them off!

New Glasses

I am not a eye specialist or instructor, I have poor vision close up and far away, and I am a type 2 diabetic. Right now I continue to play seeing the blur, the problem you are having now is that you have subconuously re-adjusted you alignment and maybe it is going to take a little time to adjust.

Are your new lenses perhaps multifocal or "progressive" if so that could very well be your problem. I used to wear those and couldn't make a ball, then I got single distance lenses for pool then finally I got Presby-Lasik last May and couldn't be happier. I don't need glasses for reading or distance now.

Hi mate,

don t be too upset about it- that s normal! many ppl have this problem- i used to play about 20 years without glasses- took a break from pool about 10 years and then/now started again - and need to play with glasses, too- it will take a few weeks perhaps. just train further my friend, all will be good. some ppl just need few days- some need some weeks. for me it wasn t even that horrible because i have to put up a completly new stance (much higher than before)- but now all is good :)

good luck and have fun,

ingo

Never and easy fix!

If they are progressive lenses there is a period of adjustment you'll have to go through to get your eyes used to them. Taking them off will only delay what you tried to fix in the beginning. Of course they could just be an incorrect prescription for your eyes also and maybe you should have your eyes rechecked and make sure the prescription is correct for you. I have been wearing glasses for 5 to 6 yaers now and went form single vision to the progressive ones I have now, are they perfect probably not but I am used to them and must say when I miss it isn't the glasses fault.
Good Luck!

Well, I guess my eyes aren't too bad, but lately there are many times I play pool and I need to get as close to the balls as possible to see if there is enough room for an object to pass another one.

I definitely need to wear glasses when driving at night, and during the day I wear glasses about 75% of the time when I drive.

I tired playing pool with regular glasses and those don't work well at all, since I have to shoot bent over.

I never tired contact lenses but I thought that might be the way for me to
improve my vision during playing pool.

Anyone have problems wearing contacts and playing pool?

I had a similar problem....

I had gotten glasses and at first being able to see the balls improved my consistency and made me much more confident.

I played with them for about a week and it screwed up my stroke because I couldn't lean down into the shot as far without looking at the frame of my glasses. It really affected my game at the swannee memorial that year.

I ended up giving up on using them for a long time and was just going to wait until I could afford lasik.

Then I had an idea and used some ties to hold the glasses to my head so I could get down on the shot without the glasses going down and either letting me see the rim or getting a distorted view from the convex of the lense.

that works best for me now and it's only taken a couple of weeks to start to get used to it.

your going to get a little bit of parallex which is what really throws you off at first. it takes a bit for your brain to compensate for it, which it will do automatically. when shooting try to keep your glasses in the same spot on the bridge nose, if they sit a lil higher or lower it changes where you see the object. what you see isnt in the exact spot you are percieving it to be in. you can exagerate the effect by staring at an object and moving your glasses around, you'll see everything kinda shift around a bit.
like i said, i think if you keep them consistntly in one place on your face (for me high up on the brifge of nose) and just play normal for while, your brain will adjust automatically.

Raised focal point

If you choose glasses you will have to get the focal point raised higher in the lens in order to have the correct line of site for billiards. I have been using glasses from this company and they are very knowledgeable when it comes to glasses for billiards players.

Did you get "pool vision" and the optic center moved?

If not, that's what usually happens....SPF=randyg

Pool Glasses

I finally bit the bullet and bought a set of pool glasses from Randy G.

I was able to send him the pool vision checkup "chicken scratch" and he was able to decipher exactly what I needed.

When I first put the glasses on, the clarity was remarkable.

After the next few set of pool, I think there was a learning curve with these different glasses. I kept up with it and glad I did.

Now that I can see, I've gone blind.

I told my eye doctor I wanted to be able to see clear for a distance of ten feet and they did a great job.

What's probably happening, to you, is your now seeing the balls clearer and your not lining up or believing what your seeing is actually the correct line of the shot. What you have to do believe in what your seeing. If your over-cutting or undercutting certain shots your not seeing them properly. The balls don't lie. If your missing shots a certain way, make the correction. The balls, can't make the correction. You have to make it.

If you are near-sighted like me, here's what I did that works for me.

First, make sure your frame accomodates large/tall lenses. That is, don't get a frame with narrow thin lenses. At first I selected a frame that I liked but when I bent over into my pool stance the frames were too short and the top of the frame interfered with my vision.

Then instead of bifocals or progressive vision all-in one type glasses, I got 3 different prescriptions for 3 different pairs of glasses. One for distance/driving. One for reading. And one for pool (I was given the option for the focal distance to be set at 6', 12', 18', ...).

I went with the 12' focal distance which means that things start to get fuzzy after that distance. Works well while at the table. However, when seated and watching your opponent from a distance (or over to the next table) things start to get a little fuzzy.

Maybe next time I'll choose the 18' focal point as a compromise and hope it doesn't affect play at the table too much.

No comments about contact lenses? I don't really want contacts becuase of the hassle, or I think maybe they are a hassle, but it seems like there would be OK for playing pool.

Started to wear glasses. Didn't affrect my game at all. Still can't play worth a damn and still miss the same shots. :rotflmao:

Seriously, it is mind over matter. It shouldn't affect your game. If it does you are using it as a excuse. Get over it and accept a fact of life. You are getting older and things aren't the same. That is one of the reasons the old pros are old has beens. The mind is willing but .....

To keep them clean go to a drug store and get some alcohol and then mix it 50% with water. Get some scratch free wipes to use so you don't scratch them.
