The U.S. Bar Table Championships is the last week of February, and I really want to go. If I make it there, it would be my first "big" tournament. Unfortunately with entry fees where they are, travel expenses, and my weather-dependent job (no work in the rain), it's looking more and more like I won't have the funds. I'm saving up all the money I can, and asking for extra overtime shifts at work, but I'm still certain I won't have enough. I might be able to come up with enough to play one division, if I'm lucky.

I'm not the kind of person to ask for handouts, so this is kinda tough and a little bit embarrassing. But, I'm gonna swallow a bit of my pride, take a knee, and ask that if anybody out there is feeling generous and would like to make a contribution to help send me to my first big tournament, I would greatly and sincerely appreciate any help I receive. In all honesty, I'm really not expecting anyone else out there to give a crap and help me out, but I'm desperate and figure it's worth a try anyways.

I really want to test my skills in a larger tournament environment, and see where I stand. Like I said, I'm busting my ass trying to earn enough to get there, I'm not sitting here trying to rely upon 100% contributions. But any help would help more than you know. My lone sponsor closed their doors a couple months ago, so I have no help on that end.

I know. Like I said, it's really hard for me to do something like this. I have a problem with asking for help. It makes me feel like scum and I want to go crawl under a rock like I'm a waste of life.

I guess that goes to show how much I want to play in the tournament. I'm doing everything I can to do so. Thanks for the wishes.

Also, I'll refund any contributions if I'm unable to save enough money to go. I'll also wear any patches/shirts/sticker/etc of any business owned by anybody who contributes. Don't care if it's Extenze or anything else lol. Hell, I'll wear a shirt that says "I'm a giant douche" if someone pays an entrance fee and wants me to.
 
it would help if they new what town your at might be able to car pool and or find someone to room with.

you might want to reconsider your outlook on pool. If you're not a top level professional, you're not going survive on pool, so you might want to put pool in the proper perspective... It's a game. Have fun at it. Enjoy yourself. It's a beautiful thing.:smile:

the below comments do not lead me to believe your "right" with your perspective on pool.

Well baxter i feel your pain brother, im just a workin man myself who could prolly stand a chance to compete but finances don't allow for me either at this time.

Don't let the posters on here get you down if you want to do something then go for it we only go around once so if you get the chance to do what you want to do then do it.

If it's meant to be it will happen for you. Wish i could help but im bust lol!
 
you aint too far from, me. Yes times are very hard right now, but stick to that job tournies come and go.

Sounds like your asking for a sponsor...maybe check with some local companies and even better someone who knows your game and think you have a chance to go deep...This being said, some companies WILL help you get there if you wear their shirt, logo, something for advertisment.

And the other feasible suggestion already made is to find someone already going. literally cuts travel costs in half.

And what leads you to believe I'm trying to make a living playing pool? I didn't state anything like that. It is a game, that I do enjoy. I'm an extremely competitive person by nature, and competition pool is one of my only outlets for such. I'm constantly striving to improve, and always looking to test my skills. That doesn't mean I'm trying to "make it" as a professional pool player.

I'm in Chico. Room and gas isn't my worry, it's covering the entrance fees to play in all 3 divisions that I'm really trying to accomplish. If push comes to shove, I have no problem sleeping in my car. Not like I haven't done that before.

I was being sponsored by a local business. They were covering table time, and had agreed to cover half of my expenses for the next CPPT. Unfortunately, they closed their doors 2 months ago.

I like to think that I'm alright. I hold my own against our strongest local players. When I went through Nebraska, the local pool room owner was calling his best locals down to play with me (non-gambling). I dispatched all of them in good fashion. I'm not the best player in town, but I'm in that top tier. I really want to get out the area and test myself, see where I really stand. Nowhere better than Reno.

Theres been plenty of non top level pros that made a living out of playing pool,minnesota fats just to name one,if you cant hustle then your in trouble,but you are for sure right in the tournament route,only a hand full can crack that nut!

Hey Jim! How ya been? Hope all is well on the home front. I know you've been busy, getting caught up and what not. It's alright. Take care of yourself, you're a good man.
 
You got that right Baxter. Jim is the kinda guy that will give you a buck, even if he only has two in his pocket.
 
Jim Baxter and Chris Tate both are solely responsible for restoring some of the faith in humanity that I lost long ago. After a rough life/childhood and being taken advantage of and crapped on, it's these two that helped me realize that there are still good people in the world. No number of "greenies" could convey the respect, appreciation, and admiration I have for these two men.
 
Maybe asking for a loan with a promise to repay will get more results than asking for a gift.
