Hercek for sale

Dear all,

It turns out that I have to part with my Joel Hercek full splice cue for personal, family reasons. I have had it for maybe a bit more than a year or thereabout and haven't used it for several months now.

I have attached a scan of the Letter of Authenticity I personally have received from Joel, something that lists most of the important information. Yet, I shall list them here for easier perspicuity:

- This particular cue is one of the two cues ever Joel built with 5 veneers - something that he will never do again, as he told me.
- The butt's rosewood prongs were cut by Burton Spain himself, decades ago, to Balabushka specs - hence the five veneer configuration -, and Joel finished the cue using a straight grain maple forearm out of Burton's personal stock.
- The cue is Joel's 23rd cue, as it is noted in gold on the inside of the bumper
- It is one of four cues ever Joel has added weight to using a special method he had learnt from Spain
- It is the only cue Joel has ever installed a cork wrap to, which was later on changed to another cork wrap by Paul F. Drexler, the wrap is an absolutely perfect fit, while the original finish remained intact
- The cue has three original, full, 13mm shafts, one lacks a tip, the other two still have the ones I received the cue with from a collector, all three have been played with, one is extremely lightly, the others moderately. I will clean them before shipping. No abrasives have ever been used on them and all have ivory ferrules with pads.
- The cue is not marked anywhere (other than the hand-writing on the bumper), however, during my communication with Joel he said that he will add SPAIN/HERCEK on the butt cap free of charge. Naturally, I will have to ask him about transferring this right onto You, but I doubt that it would be any problem at all.
- As for the condition of the cue I can report that the finish is just about perfect all over the cue and it definitely is one of the very cleanest examples of any cue that is of this age. One note is that one of the shafts has a scratch on it, it was there when I received it and Joel said that if it is a problem he will remove it as well - since we assume it happened during shipping. I have not played pool this year other than two occasions and therefore I couldn't check the cue's straightness but I am sure it either is 100% straight or not imperfect to any more extent than how much wood naturally moves due to changes in temperature and humidity.
- The cue plays incredibly solid, it is a fantastic cue to play with and I can assure you about this fact just as well as about everything I have written above.

My asking price is $SOLD shipped for the cue which is about as good for a Hercek as any, not to mention all the special pedigree this cue has.
I don't really know what else I could say, I truly believe that this cue is a stellar example of the tradition Burton Spain has built and Joel further advanced and is priced very reasonably considering the ever-growing value of Hercek cues and Joel's closed order book that is already filled for the next 15 years.

I hope that I have managed to give a thorough description of the cue, yet, again, if you have any further questions please feel free to ask.

Kindest regards,
David Bredan

P.S.: I am in Hungary, I take PayPal and I can do escrow if necessary. You may check my iTrader I have bought and sold several cues in the couple-thousand range and I can get many people to vouch for me and you can check everything with Joel.

This should show the presence of the blue veneer better.

Joe,

Feel free to do so. I have negotiated with Joel when I received my cue and through this process he sent me the LOA to the cue. I am convinced he will know the cue. Please keep me informed via PM or at

Thank you.

Top notch cue!!!!!!!!

Thank you very much, indeed it is in my opinion as well.

THIS IS AN AWESOME CUE TO OWN...... IT PLAYED GREAT AS WELL AS BEING COLLECTABLE.

DO THE 3 SHAFTS STILL HAVE A DIFFERENT NUMBER OF RED BACKING PADS UNDER THE TIPS? THAT WAS DONE ORIGINALLY FOR THE FIRST OWNER TO TEST HOW MUCH EACH PAD WOULD CHANGE THE HIT/FEEL OF THE CUE. IT'S A NEAT EXPERIMENT, AND YOU CAN FEEL THE DIFFERENCE.

THE WRAP WAS DONE BY PAUL DREXLER, AND IT'S A FLAWLESS JOB.

I JUST WANTED TO GIVE YOU MORE TIDBITS ABOUT THE CUE, JUST IN CASE YOU DIDN'T KNOW THEM.

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR SALE, SOMEONE WILL LOVE THIS CUE.

Marcus,

Thank you for the kind words, I really appreciate it. Two of the three shafts still do have the pads - a different number of that - while one has the original one single pad Joel installed (it is rock solid). The wrap is smooth and is a flawless fit, no less than what you'd expect. I'm just happy you and Chris mentioned that.

Again, I appreciate the tidbits, you're right about this cue being as good for its playability as it is for its pedigree.

Best,
David

The cue is now on hold, awaiting confirmation with a few more waiting in line - some massive interest in this cue.

Top shelf cue from a top tier cuemaker. Awesome price! GLWS.

Thank you very much, my belief is the same regarding the pricing of the cue :)

Great price for a Hercek........but a Spain blank too!!!!

Thank you for the kind words as well!

This is an heirloom quality cue, you couldn't pry this from my hands! I wish I had the extra cheddar right now, cuz it would mine all mine!

I think I blasted right past the fact that this cue had Spain parts in it. That's my loss for sure.

Joel did a great job upholding the tradition down to the straight grain maple and those classic Spainish butt rings. I know this cue meant something special to David as he is a historical collector and I'm sure it is with some sadness that he lets this one go.

Nice sale.

Great cue.

Nice blend of history and modern.

Thanks

Kevin

Kevin,

I appreciate the kind reply; I personally also believe that this cue - while due to its specs and make already being a fantastic option in the real player's cue segment - possesses a very unique blend that you described so nicely. When I acquired this cue I knew that I found the cue that I've been looking for, something that has the playability, the collectibility, a special pinch of uniqueness and cool looks that I could only dream about.

The sale of the cue never would have come up if it wasn't for such circumstances. I am not going to delude myself with hopes that this cue can be replaced with anything else like it to my taste that's in my affordable budget.
I knew I had to sell it when the issue arose but at first I was open to trade for a nice watch that I could own and then flip in the future, but the aim was to get my money out of the cue to solve the family-related issue - it is just that I had to skip the watch part and grab the money as things quickened.

I don't think I'll have a custom cue of this or even half of this level in the foreseeable years and with this cue gone I'm not all that interested anymore too.

The best feeling though is knowing that it is going to someone who is one of the very-very-very best to receive it and I am convinced that it is going to fit into his collection perfectly.

Scott and half fast bankr, thank you for your replies as well!

Yeah David I know this cue would have had meaning for you and that you are sorry to see it go. In the end, no mater how special the stuff is, its just stuff, and as I'm sure you just decided, there are things that take precedence in life.

Anyway, from what I remember of the price, had I paid enough attention to the history of your cue, I would have owned it (for a week or two).

I'm glad it's going to a good home and I hope the money solves something for you.

Kevin,

First of all, on one hand I would have been happy to sell you the cue and it would've been a real honor, on the other I am sure you'll understand me when I say that I am also happy to know that by chance it will be at its new home for a long period.

I am very thankful for your notes, with all honesty it means a lot to me. You are right, it is just stuff most of the time, and at some other times they are just more special. It will help resolve the matter.
In the end the experience of achieving and acquiring something like this in whatever one likes to do as a hobby is something that can hardly ever be forgotten and that is invaluable. I guess that is why maybe not all, but many of us have been here on AZB, dealing and trading such fine instruments.
