Hey fatboy!!!! Any pictures of ur billiard room n Vegas?

I agree with you with the tax! BUT, you can't say it's BS based;) I'm thinking you probably don't believe in God, which is totally cool by me:) but just as you say it's BS based, you're BS yourself:) no offense, I always let people be what they want and let them believe what they choose, as long as nobody is hurting anyone, we are free to believe in what we want! But the moment I hear people say what you said,(BS based) I ask you this, if your so sure that my belief is BS based, I'd like to know how you think your belief is correct?;) I'm not looking to start a fight, I just think sometimes people don't let others believe in what they want! In other words, I didn't like the "BS based" comment! Like I said previously, as long as you're not hurting anyone, we should all be allowed to believe what we want,,,, without comments such as yours! Thanks:)

whatever man- i said IMO. Im not arguing it here or anywhere for that matter.

Its a Fairy Tale, no facts, proof or hard science behind it. Prove me wrong. Show me facts other than... "its just a feeling I get that tells me its real" or "because it says so in the bible" or "I have prayed and I know prayer is real and works". Religion is the biggest brain washing business in the world and should be taxed just like every other business.

Lots of ink spill't in this thread. All I know is that am am reminded of this situation:

Catch-22 author Joseph Heller was reportedly once talking to Kurt Vonnegut at a Shelter Island cocktail party. Vonnegut pointed to the mogul who was hosting the lavish event at his summer compound and asked Heller if it didn't bother him that the guy made more in a single day than he had made in a lifetime on his hit novel Catch-22? Heller replied: "I have something he'll never have. Enough."

How much tax did the Catholic church pay last year, here or anywhere. Their fortune would put Bill Gates and Warren Buffet to shame. Just sayin'

A few years back my wife and I (both lapsed Catholics) walked through The Vatican, St. Pete's, and the museum. Those alone (a fraction of its worldwide properties) gave us a new appreciation for the definition of "obscene wealth."

I've got some cues that have appreciated in value over the years...
....but it's only on paper....because I won't sell them.

What does that have to do with the wealth of the Vatican or Catholic Church in general?

It's not as if the Catholic Church is made up of nothing but random items they will never sell. They have insane amounts of cold hard cash, mostly donated by people who can least afford to do so.

2011 estimate....8 billion and change.....that is cash....but even that is
not clear....the Vatican bank has private accounts also.

I've read a few books on this subject years ago, so I don't want you
thinking I'm totally naive about Catholic dealings....the only religious
organization that I'll give money to is the Salvation Army, although I'm
sure there are other good religious institutions to donate to.

In the early 80s I read God's Banker, which doesn't make the Vatican look
good at all. And any history reading will tell you that sometimes the
Catholic leaders look about as good as a Mafiosi or a tyrant.

So we aren't really on different sides on this other than the over-estimation
of the Church's actual worth, aside from real estate.
And I do think it's obscene, if they had only a billion, not to do more
good instead of holding on to it.

I was impressed with the movie, The Shoes of the Fisherman, when I
was a kid....if only they could live up to those ideals.

Amen to that Lou !..You don't even need to go to the Vatican..Just visit the church of Notre Dame, in South Bend, Indiana..They have more assets, and cash, than Bill Gates, and thats just ONE church ! (and, there are many bigger ones too)..Anyone who doesn't realize that ALL organized religion's, have always been the worlds biggest rip-off, is just plain blind or ignorant (or both) That is not blasphemy, it is reality !

How about the millions of poor people, who weekly, put their last few dollars in the collection plate ? Then, when the poor bastards get wiped out by a flood or earthquake, does the church step in ?..NO, NO,NO, thats up to the Red Cross, and the Salvation Army.....The church will even beg for more money from their parishioner's, to rebuild if the church is damaged !.....Must be nice, all income, no outlay !..Tax exempt my ass.. The big organized religions, are bigger thieves than Wall Street, and the banks combined !

PS..PT109, you are on the right track, but your estimate of 8 billlion in cash, is woefully low ! They get that much bequeathed to them, by religious zealots every month or so !, and they've been at it a loooooong time !

Haven't been to that one, Dick, but the one in Paris is pretty amazin'. The rake is probably pretty good too.

Since this thread has turned toward religion bashing, at least the Catholic Churches are spending it on nice things, the Jews just spend all of their time counting their money! :grin-square:

Yeah, but most Jew's like to gamble, and they're pretty damn good at it too !..;) Lets go after Scientology next ! (Looks like Fatboy's off the hook) :D

Big difference between the Catholic church, and Scientology...The church takes in billions, off millions of poor suckers, a few bucks at a time !.. Scientology takes in billions off just a few 'well heeled' sucker's..(and most of them live in Hollywood) :D

Red Cross is a sham.

True story...

Tornado hit here 2 years ago and Red Cross showed up. My mother is a physicians assistant so she jumped in to help and provide medical treatment to those injured as the local hospital also sustained severe damage.

A couple Walmart trucks showed up with food, water, and blankets as many lost their home. The Red Cross folks told the trucks to leave as their items were not wanted, needed, or approved for distribution. To say the local town was appalled by the Red Cross actions are a severe understatement.

Fortunately, my wife's aunt was a principal at one of the local elementary schools who asked that items be delivered there and assured they would be distributed as needed.

Despicable!!

Agreed. We caught some of the same stuff you are talking about just a bit North of you.

Glad it was rerouted where it could be used.

SO FAR the Catholic church has paid out several hundred million in settlements to child abuse victims. That number will surely go up. I don't think that's insurance money either, that's the church's cheese. I know they don't like it, but they need to cover their asses the best way they can with none of the Bishops and Cardinals going to jail. They will let the lowly priests (who did the abusing) take the fall.

I'm glad that religion is good for some people. Unfortunately it also leads to violence and ultimately war for many religious fanatics. Of course we all know that. Anything that separates people is ultimately a bad thing. And that's my opinion like it or not.

I love counting my money! Thanks for paying attention.
