Heyball big money tourney

phone myint kyaw used to play american pool before he switched over. it seems he's in the semifinal in this one. i assume he would be the first international player to be in the final since melling or potts?
Depends which 'series' of events we are talking about. I think Phone has won an event before. But I am not sure if it is this specific 'series' - they run a lot of 'series' here between brands and sponsors etc, and there is the odd international winner from time to time. Never able to maintain their momentum like the Chinese 'big guns'

i was referring to this event. melling lost in the final in the late 2010's, to the lazy eyed chinese guy

Zheng Yubo? it's more wonky head than lazy eye I think. Don't follow who wins beyond the chat that gets posted in groups, or on WeChat moments here. So I generally have a grip on who's playing well, but not all the winners. Any specific questions are easy enough to answer though. I have some friends working or playing the events.

You have a snooker heritage. Tell me, what is the history on those pockets?

yes, that's the guy. not playing this one it seems

Chinese-8ball was created with them wanting to create a game that enticed players of all cue sports. American balls, snooker pockets and cloth, originally English pool was the basis of the rules.

He's out of this event already I think. I might be wrong though.

I meant the original snooker. 12' I can relate. Impossible rail shots, not so much. Any clue how those pockets evolved? I did the big balls small pockets in the 70s. I love shooting at the holes but not any game on snooker pockets - not even golf.

I think heyball is an "upgrade" of 8ball, and i find it very interesting.

To me and I'm not going to challenge the novelty effect here, what happens is the defense / offense ratio gets tipped too far toward defense. The limited shot opportunity creates a big window for no brainer safety play while offense is limited to ducks and pedantic patterns. Enjoy till you see.

I hate stalemates, thats why i would try to bank, and loose.
It's that rationale I'm talking about. How long have you been at it? Few years or less, keep learning to shoot. There'll be plenty of time to indulge your dog spirit later in life.

Banks to the side work well. It's long ones to the corner I never got the hang of. I think I'm in good company though.

from what i've seen, for the very best they still run out most of the time. more than in 9-ball / 10-ball. talking about bingjie and above mentioned zheng yubo. melling can't break an egg but if his break was good i would think he'd be at 60% or higher

Yes if the break is good. But as in snooker, they don't dare do anything complicated with the ball and with everything spread out, forget combinations. They don't even want to look at long ones to the back pockets!

Even if I'm not inclined to watch Heyball, I'm happy for all these great cueists for whom such great prize money is available.

If the number of tournaments and prize funds in Heyball keep growing, I wonder whether:

a) young cueists that once grew up playing snooker and American pool will start gravitating to Heyball

b) some of the most established cueists already playing snooker and American pool will start deemphasizing the game they have always played in favor of developing their skills at Heyball.

c) some cueists will consider moving to China (if that's even possible) to gain access to the best players and to be close to the most important competitions. Once upon a time, Allison Fisher, Karen Corr, Kelly Fisher, Darren Appleton, Jayson Shaw, Mike Immonen and others moved to the United States for a similar reason with respect to American pool.

Let's see how this plays out.

Here's a list of the payouts...
