High end cues; is it a buyers or seller market?

Gina, Tad, Bushka, Szamboti, etc. Is it a buyers or sllers market? Thank you.
Have you been watching what the cues you listed are selling for? Granted asking and selling prices often differ but still you'd have to say its a sellers market for the really high-end stuff. These cues are kinda like land: they aren't making more it. Prices will remain high.

It's depends on exactly what you have, the condition and price. If you have high demand goods in new or great condition and your price is sensible relative to the market, the seller is holding all the aces. The market is very dynamic and not very liquid. If you're in a big hurry to sell anything to pool players, you're in deep trouble!

Thank you for the info. I have been out of the game since 2012 and just getting back to it again. There seems to be a dramatic increase in prices and just not too sure if it was just due to my imagination or ignorance .

I agree.

You could say that the higher end of any such market is a bit different.

There are many player cues that are really fine made by great makers that are a little weak on the market right now. But the truly rare and exclusive stuff holds a stronger market.

And if you are looking at certain older cues after a few years you will be surprised. Some have really gained a bit in the last 5 years or so. Even some production cues.

Well said.

The market is dominated by Predator, Tiger, Lucasi, etc.., Most of the time when someone ask about buying a cue they want to know what $500- $700 will get them?
I seldom see Pool players playing with High End cues anymore, especially not the young guys, so as already stated, if your looking to sell to players, your in Big trouble.

The reason why the young guys are playing with Predator, Lucasi, Cuetec or Mezz is the sponsorship of the big names in pool. So most of the big pro poolplayers are sponsored by these companies and the young guys want to play with the cues of their idols/icons/role model. The other reason: these cues are affordable for them.

The High End Cues you listed are becoming harder and harder to acquire.
If you have a special cue from one of those makers you are definitely in the drivers seat as a seller, but you must have patience.

It's always a buyers market if you have the $$$$ sellers will listen and a great deal can be found!

Why are they becoming harder and harder to acquire? Is it because they are going out of the country?

Or is it that the ones that are in collections are not being let loose? I tend to think this might be the reason. Folks that have higher end stuff dont need to liquidate a cue to get another one.

For truly exquisite designs made by the top name cue-makers, which there are only a handful
that I'd include, it's a sellers market for those type pool cues, both new and pre-owned. The
remainder of cues tend to lean towards the buyers since there are so many to choose from and
the truth is that most sellers overprice their cues which is why you see asking prices changing
& being lowered all the time the longer the cue takes to secure a sale. Just glance at the FS section..

It is definitely a buyers market.

If CA didn't enact its ivory ban last July, right now for $6800, I could buy.....
and rest assured I really would.......two ivory joint cues made by Ernie
Guitterez and Joel Hercek or two Herceks for under $8k....So as far as
I can tell, it's a buyers market because either of the Herceks would have
sold for $2000 more 3 years ago and the Ginacue would have yielded at
least $1500 more 3-4 years ago. I'd buy all 3 cues right now if CA hadn't
passed its ivory restriction. So in a manner of speaking, it's a good thing
since it keeps me from spending more money on cues I truly do not need.

Thank you. Hopefully I would be able to save enough cash to get one. I think there is no ivory ban in canada.

The third reason is the cues are readily available.
