Home table owners cue care

You have a table at home what do you do with your cue.I almost always hit a few balls every day so my question is do you break down your cues at home or lay it on the table, put it in your case with shaft up & butt down? or shaft down & butt up. Or in a rack?
I am afraid that if i don't break it down it may warp. Don't want that for my custom. What's your take?

At home, I unpack my cue, hit a few balls, and then insert it in the rack standing straight up. I am in the position of using the cue at home 5-6 days between taking the cue out for a good time. So having it available is good.

Put it in the wall rack straight up and down. The only drawback is that the shaft will be exposed to light all day long and will patina faster but that will happen eventually anyway. Standing straight up and down is the best way to prevent warping.

I put it in the rack yesterday for the first time and it dropped to the floor.i guess i didn't have it in correctly.
Thats what i' was looking for. I usually keep mine in the case with shaft facing up.

I dont know if what I do is right or wrong but here it is since you asked. I have 1 Custom cue, my break cue and my jump cue out at all times at home. I play everyday, ( though you couldn't tell it from my game!)

I have a 6X cue claw that holds everything but my custom in addition to my cue rack that is full of house cues and the kids 2 piece cues. I leave my custom on the pool table so its nice and flat. Although, in some houses this could mean you are leaving it out in the open for it to get banged around a bit. In my house the pool room is sacred and everyone understands that you do NOT horse around in my pool room! For what its worth when I do put my cues in my case it's butt end down and shaft tip down.

My table's in my garage here is the Seattle area and I leave all of my cues (~8 of them) year around for the past two years in both a wall-mounted holder and in a couple of heavy rubber table-mounted holders standing near vertical... and I have had no issues with warpage.

The majority of my cues are placed in one of two wall racks I have. My player and my break cue are broken down each time and returned to my case. I lay the case on the floor so it does not accidentally get knocked over by a pet! No problems with warpage on any cues, knock on wood.

I have always made it a practice to put my cues away when I was done playing with them...just the safest thing to do, IMHO. I am not the only one who uses the 'game room', and don't want anyone touching my stuff...so in the case it goes!

I lay them on my table. It is a pain to lean them against the wall while I practice (and real tough to practice with them still on the table ) , so one day I'll make a rack.

PS I have threatened the cats, suggesting I will turn them into a pair of mittens if they mess with my cues in the middle of the night, and so far so good.

If I'm playing alot I will leave my playing cue together and on the table. If my playing cue is in a case the tip and joint are up. The only cues I have in my wall and floor rack are house cues, the ladies aid(be calm), cues of different lengths(short wall challanged), and 2 walking cane cues(everyone needs one of these ). Time for a cold COORS! :)

I keep my house cues and claw on the rack for friends to play with. Most times i put my shooting cue whole in my case with the shaft up. No one else in the house to mess with my good cues. I usually hide them when friends come over anyway. Had one nicked by a friend once. Lesson learned.

Bob you can always do what I do it has worked well for years! I have been trying to only buy warped cues:o, that way you don't have to ever worry about them. I like to lean them against the table when I am done, if they fall....so what there warped anyway. When friends or worse yet my kids friends come over to hang out I just leave them all around the rec room and if they get handled by dirty hands....oh well there crooked anyway:wink:. I can leave them in a car whether it is 120 degrees out or
-20 it will not bother me because ....you guessed it there bent:D.
Not to mention I always have a excuse now for missing which happens all the time now:shrug:.......J/K I stand them striaght up in a wall rack and it's worked well for years.
Maybe Cuebuddy has been reading to many of Tramp Steamers and NewStrokes posts.

Yo Mom...WTF

Used to leave my Scruggs cue lying on the table. Then one day I've got my 85 yr old mother up for her yearly visit. Come home to find her trying to shoot balls..
"I used to do it on the table in the basement while I was doing laundry...you know...when you were young".
She shooting, raking balls, slapping them toward the pocket with the shaft. Cured me of that in a big hurry.
You know, there is a reason you leave home.

And there is no reasoning with an 85 year old woman about that.

You tell her "Ma, that cue cost me well over $4,000! What are you doing?!" Her response would be, "Well if you paid that much it can handle this."

I can just picture my grandmother (just turned 87) saying it.

If you leave it straight up and down in a wall rack, it won't warp. Mine has stood there for 28 years, including many years when I didn't touch it. The wall rack I use is one of those two piece ultra-cheapies that can be bought for under $10. If you're careful installing it the cue will be stand straight. Install it away from direct sunlight and heat registers.

The only time the cue leaves the rack is when I go out to play.

I left my cue on the table and ended up going to bed and forgetting to break it down. The next morning I woke up and found the szam right where I left it. I picked it up and the linen wrap was damp. It dried out ok and about a month later I had it on Ted harris' lathe and it spun dead true. This same cue fell out of my case once in a huge south Florida storm and landed in a puddle and was actually pulled out of being completely underwater. Talk about a horrifying moment to see your Gus like that. I took the cue the next day to teds shop and he dried out the wrap . That cue is close to 30 years old and the butt is dead straight after all the abuse I've given it.

All that said, I always break my cues down now if I quit. The safest, driest place is inside a case.

Leave cues together

I leave mine together so I can hit with different ones. When I go out to play I pack them in my case.
