Allen Hopkins will be playing three sets of 10-ball against Ignacio Chavez at Comets in New Jersey today.

Folks are clamoring to the quaint little town of Parsippany to get a front-row seat to witness the legendary Hopkins battle it out with the always-tough-to-beat Chavez.

Races to 11, they are playing even. WIth three sets locked up, somebody will go home a winner tonight.

Hopkins won the last time he played Chavez, so this is a grudge match.

Who do you like? :p

Coin toss to me. If Allen gets a good break I'll take him. But if not I'll take Chavez. I'll go ahead and pick Chavez.

Chavez, two out of three sets, maybe all three. Allen has slipped by half a ball, and Chavez is getting better, and is a little hungrier.

Believe it or not, it is more of a blood test for Allen then for Chavez. Allen wants to test himself to see if he still has it. That's my read.

I wish I had time to drive up there. It's about a 3-hour cruise from D.C. I really like that pool room, plenty of room between tables, and the decor is cranberry and green, two of my favorite colors! :p

I kind of like Allen Hopkins, only because I think he's been hitting 'em in recent times. Of course, I'm always pulling for the old school. Though I know I am not supposed to bet with my heart, I still like Allen Hopkins in this match-up! :D

Jam,

I like him too, a lot. But I bet with my wallet, not my heart. :)

A short time ago it seems (maybe a year ago), I saw Allen Hopkins compete on a Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour in Providence, Rhode Island, at Snooker's pool room. There were some great shooters there, Gary Abood, Joe Tucker, Ginky, Mike Zuglan, Frankie Hernandez, Eddie Vasquez, Kid Delicious, the usual Northeast crowd, and Keith.

The finals came down to Ginky and Allen Hopkins, and I must say it was one of the BEST hard-fought finals I think I have seen to date. I had no idea who was going to win this match. I had never seen Allen play like this before, and I was checking out his "punch" stroke. It was deadly. Ginky, who has been on a hiatus from playing pool, was phenomenal as well. Now that I think about it, it was also called the Ocean State Championship. Ginky had won it several years before as well. Two players who had kind of been on hiatus and they end up in the finals, playing some very good pool.

When the dust settled, Ginky snatched the almighty win, once again, and this BEAUTIFUL trophy. :)

Hey, I just got word the first set went hill-hill. They quit and then decided to play two more sets, raising sand bags, and let the best player take it down. :p

Chavez is on the hill in the second set at the time of this writing, 10 to 5.

P.S. Keith is waiting on a call from Allen Hopkins, hoping to give him a little pep talk before the third set. Keith said he's going to tell Allen to lengthen his stroke a little!

I told him that Allen probably doesn't want to hear that at this juncture. :o

Yeah, you and Jay seem to be good handicappers. I need to get back on the tournament trail and see the action -- SOON! :D

If they played one set only, and bet real high, I would take Allen. The long races will take more of a toll on him.

I like Allen one Race To Eleven for like 20 dimes. YEAH! But of course, that isn't the match today.

its pretty much what you said it was.allen testing the waters but i think he kind of jumped into rough water here.

Is Hopkins mounting a comeback? If Chavez is on the hill, on a tight table, it would be hard to come back from 10-5.
