Hopkins vs. Chavez at Comets

I forgot one very important new development.

Allen is getting the call-9, playing 10-ball, in today's festivities.

The second set is now Allen 5, Chavez 2.

And the beat goes on... :p

The first set went hill-hill, and they "rolled it over."

Chavez and Hopkins are now commencing the second set for increased sandbags.

The weather, by the way, in the Clifton pool room, according to my roving reporter, is 100-plus degrees inside, hot and humid, to include wet tables.

Different playing conditions, today is a new day! :p

Will Hopkin get a little revenge? Will Chavez continue free-wheeling and maintain his winning ways? Time will tell...

100 degrees and humid in the pool room? I wouldn't even play.. No A/C or what?

Looking forward to hearing the results.

Thanks for the updates JAM...I'll keep an eye on this thread as the night progresses. It's great to read about a legend in action.

A lot of things going for Allen today. Tough conditions and a little weight. I wouldn't bet it now.

The last score update we had was at 5:10, 3 hours ago. The lack of news would show that either Hopkins won the 2nd set, that is, the 1st two sets, or that they again tied and pushed it all to the 3rd set.

Speculation

Because we are forced to speculate, due to the complete failure of our on-scene reporter, I guess that the first two sets were tied, and Chavez won the last set 11-10!;)

It's been 4 hours and twenty minutes since our last update.:( It's unbelievable!! Unbelievable!!

Hpkins won last nite. They are to play one hole today at Crown Billiards in Pompton Lakes NJ. Should be a great match. I have not seen Hopkins play 1 hole before nor Chavez.
I would have loved to see this matched taped for all to see. I know Pete Flemming stopped by to catch some of the action( pat's Brother).
Crown Billiards is at 735 Hamburg Tpke. 2nd Floor.

3-0 Allen Hopkins - a whitewash!  Tomorrow, for 3k, even!!:)

Thanks, Chesscat and to Abbassi, for providing this morning's update! :p

As usually, I fell asleep before the festivities concluded. :o

Gee, it looks as if this may become The Hopkins and Chavez Road Show. You folks in Jersey are being treated to some excellent pool.

For one-pocket, I'm definitely going to take Allen in this horse race! :D

Uh oh. Allen's got him now! He's in stroke playing his best game. Next thing, he'll have him playing Straight Pool. Ha Ha :)

Your not kidding, Jay. Correct me if Im wrong, but i believe that Allen has a 1 pocket World Championship on his resume.

Moves

I think that Allen is a smart guy and he outmaneuvered Chavez. My info is that at Clifton, Allen insisted on playing on the one-pocket table. I've played on that table before and it may be a great one-pocket table, but it's a circus trick to try to play a rotation game on that table. From there, Hopkins went on to negotiate the advantage. But Hopkins brought his A game, no doubt. But now, 1-pocket? I don't think Chavez has any idea how Hopkins plays 1-pocket. It looks to me like Allen has "out-moved" Chavez.

The longer they play (at any game) the more I like Hopkins. The more 1P and straight pool they play, the more I REAAAAAALLY like Hopkins. Nobody "finds and learns of" ways to win better than Allen.

This poolroom has little house ac's, it just dont work.

I am w/ Allen and it seems that these conditions are not a problem at all to him. Unlike Allen, I would not play either.

They are both World Class players, no doubt. Both are gentlemen and classy.
I think that Chavez has learned to play Hopkins in 9/10 ball and may have the advantage. He had to give up the 9 in 10 ball in Clifton. Although, the 9, does not mean much at this calibur. It may be phsycological if anything.

1 pocket maybe a different story. I have not seen them play. But Chavez is an excellent safty player and 3 cushion player. So it will be a treat to watch.

Crown Billiards has a tight 5x10 table, that I know Allen likes and has played on. Who knows, maybe they will match up again on that table. In which case it would be an added factor.
I will try to make it up to Crown after taking care of personal buisness, and update all late tonite/ early hours.
