Hopkins vs. Chavez at Comets

I can't believe that Hopkins is taking this match even. That is a light bet too, He must be chumming for some weight then a score. Be careful though Chavez has some very crafty backers.

Well, as usual, I fell asleep last night before hearing the results. :o

Last I heard, Hopkins and Chavez were beginning the third set, race to 11 in 10-ball, and the score was 4 to 1. My roving reporter informed me that at this point, Chavez seemed to be "free-wheeling" his stroke, and Hopkins was very determined to make a comeback.

I wonder if anybody local will see this thread and report the results! (hint, hint) ;)

thanks, chesscat

Chesscat reported the results last night. Chavez won the 3rd set, 11-8. Today they go at it again at Clifton Billiards.

Thanks, Worldison2 and Chesscat! :)

Interesting that they elected for a change of venue!

home-and-home

Clifton is Chavez's home room. Not sure why Comet was chosen as the other room, because it's not Allen's home room, but it sure is a great place to hold this kind of action.

Allen always drops in when he is up North. He knows the tables and conditions. They are great for both tourny's and also action. They have a double shim table surrounded by a counter, perfect to run a action game.

So will you make the trek to Clifton tonight, Frankie?

Do y'all figure it adds pressure to Allen since he's got the big name to live up to? I don't follow pool as closely as some and I haven't heard of Chavez, but maybe he's a pretty big name too. Sounds like he plays world class.

I kinda thought the money would weigh more heavily on Chavez than Hopkins but at the 500-1000 range I guess neither of them will be in the streets if they lose.

The only pressure Allen feels is created by Chavez, who makes few mistakes. Playing him is a challenge for Allen. He would have to find his top speed again to win. I give Allen all the credit in the world. He doesn't look for suckers. He looks for tough action to test himself.

If there is pressure on Hopkins, its self-imposed. He probably feels a little pressure to prove to the younger guys that he's still a world class player.

Then again, Chavez isn't the youngest guy out there and he too is a world class player. The primary difference between these two is the fact that one is a higher profile player than the other. A lot of people may expect Hopkins to win and thus, there's a degree of pressure involved there too, whereas, like yourself, some have never heard of Chavez and don't realize just how incredible a player he really is. I think Chavez rests on that 'darkhorse' image and that helps him as it lets him fly under the radar.

The first set went hill-hill, and they "rolled it over."

Chavez and Hopkins are now commencing the second set for increased sandbags.

The weather, by the way, in the Clifton pool room, according to my roving reporter, is 100-plus degrees inside, hot and humid, to include wet tables.

Different playing conditions, today is a new day! :p

Will Hopkin get a little revenge? Will Chavez continue free-wheeling and maintain his winning ways? Time will tell...
