Both were (are) monsters, but I'd have to say King James had a level of precision on kicks and carom angles that I've never seen equaled.
I think this will be a popularity contest, but Allen was the better All-around player --- especially for the cash and even more especially for betting their own cash.
- Allen was the first player to win the US Open 9ball and World 14.1 in the same year, only to be matched by Mika decades later
Mika has never won the world 14.1 event.
Too close to call. But gambling with their own money i'd have to bet on Allen. Johnnyt
As far as skill goes I'd say they were both even but Hopkins seemed to come through better in major events, winning the world 14.1 championship as well as winning the u.s. open 9 ball event twice....Rempe never won either one.
REMPE WAS IN FINALS AND WON AGAINST EFREN IN 86 FINALS FOR BIG MONEY AND IS A INTERNATIONAL CHAMPION AS WELL OVER SEAS IN SNOOKER AND A ALL AROUND CHAMPION. ALWAYS AT THE TOP AND DOMINATED THE SCENE IN THE 70S WITH MANY CONSECUTIVE TITLES WON IN 9BALL. VOTE GOES FOR KING JAMES REMPE! 1 POCKET CHAMPION AS WELL AT JOHNSTON CITY AND MANY OTHER TITLES TO HIS NAME. I KNOW SIGEL DID NOT LIKE PLAYING STRAIGHT POOL AGAINST HIM! BEAT SIGEL IN A EXHIBITION WHEN MIKE NEEDED A FEW TO WIN REMPE CAME BACK FROM -2 WITH A 200 + RUN TO WIN! A CHAMPION FOR SURE!
Rempe was never the 14.1 player Hopkins was. Hopkins never lost a 1000 point match in his life. Hopkins beat Lassiter by running 300-something *SAFE* and then two-hundred something for a total of 500-something unanswered points in two innings.
Rempe never "dominated" the scene... that's a little out there. It's good to hear Rempe snapped off an exhibition against Sigel.... because in a "major" such as the world 14.1 or us open 9-ball, Rempe couldn't get there.
Nobody beat Sigel more than Sigel beat them. If Rempe beat Sigel in an exhibition, he simply didn't play him long enough or often enough.
