how are ya'll doing in league ?

also i want to get a masters team together, just to play with the big dogs for my own competitive edge

Masters is a good time. I don't know what your skill level is but I think anything under a 5 wouldn't have much fun after a while. I lost my first match back against a 5, I was off and he got a few rolls. Ironically, he's on my 9B team so he got to razz me a bit :)

Our league started back up last night.

I didn't go. And won't for the foreseeable future. I have a high risk wife, and higher risk son at home. Felt really weird, knowing my team was there, and I wasn't...I've been playing for 12 years, with the only break being missing the playoffs during that time

You're smart not to go, dub. Our leagues started up three weeks ago and last week we were shut down again because two league players tested positive for coronavirus.

My wife and I are both high-risk and we are both debating whether or not to just drop out altogether. If they demand everyone play in a mask....I haven't worn a mask yet that keeps my glasses from fogging up. Besides, I don't think the reward is worth the risk.

Stay safe, my friend!

We started back up a week and a half ago, I play Monday and Thursday so Monday was definitely weird walking in the first time they opened. They rearranged the hall to allow a bit more distancing, overall things were ok, not like a normal night as most everyone stayed at their own area and teams didn't really move around much to mingle. Was quiet but everyone was also in great spirits and we had a blast being able to talk. There was a good portion of people missing, but that is understandable, I'm in the mindset of keeping to myself, being aware of how close I get to people and just keeping myself and everyone around me safe. The hall put hand sanitizer on each table which I kept reminding my teammates about, I own a restaurant so sanitation is second nature for me.

Monday I play 9 ball, I was a 5.....WAS....with reduced numbers, I ended up being matched up with the opponents 9.....who ran 6 racks to start the match....ooooof.....I'm now a 4.....lol

Thursday I play 8 ball....I get paired up against a 7......here we go again...he broke and ran 2 to start the match, I messed up a few times, he won 5-0.....sigh

Saturday I decided to try a regional qualifier in 9 ball since I'm now a 4, I got out of work and sped to the hall, got there just in time to sign up and practice for a few, ended up starting out very slow my first match.....came back and won it, won the next 4 to make the winners side finals. Lost in the winners side finals because I just couldn't make a shot. Had one match left in order to secure my regional spot, played a 7 and beat him to my score, he didn't play the best but I definitely played better than I had all day.

Played Monday...back to the old me....I couldn't play position for squat, hooked myself repeatedly and when I missed I left my opponent and easy 2-3 ball run, when he missed I was hooked...never failed. But it's all on me, I missed opportunities and I really need to get back at the table and work on my game, I know I have so much more potential.

If I felt that there would be reasonable mask usage, i might go more...I just envision that there won't be.

As for your scenario...I would think that once you got to the table, you could pull the mask down from your nose while you shoot, then cover it back up when leaving the table. Should be just you, when you are shooting...

Stay safe!

Oh yeah, we won the Captains Championship last Saturday which means we get to go to Vegas again in August, but I really doubt it will happen so we'll take the cash :)

For those unfamiliar with the format. 4 total players per team, 3 of them play each round and you can pick and choose those 3 for each round, we had 3 total players so no options available. Skill levels capped at 15 with only one high level player, these are based on 8B skill levels, I am a 9 in 9B and a 7 in 8B so 7 was my SL for cap purposes. We had a 7 and 2 4's. When you match up with the other team you flip a coin, winner gets the option of putting up first or passing it to the other team. When you put up - you put up your entire line-up for the three players so you definitely want to defer if you win. There is a low, mid, and high tier. Since we had 2 4's we got to choose which one was in the "low" tier. So when the other team put up first we could strategize and determine how we should play those two against their low and mid. Once the lineup is determined you play that person for the entire match.

Low's go first, mid's second, high last. Start with 8B then rotate games. Winner's team breaks. If your low player wins then your mid player breaks and the game is 9B, if the mid player loses the high player racks and it goes back to 8B, etc. The races are based on SL caps. 15 to 15 was a race to 5, 15-14 was a 5-4 race, etc. In a 5-5 race that goes to the hill each player gets to play 3 times.

Going into it we knew we had a good team but in reality, that doesn't matter too much so although we were ready, there's always that little doubt in my head.

The first team we played was the other "top" team I was worried about. We jumped out to a 4-1 lead (race to 5) and they came back and got us. The captain of that team happens to be a good friend who is also on my 9B and Masters team. We've been in APA for almost 2 years together and have never played each other (he's an 8 and I'm a 9). I won the first one and he took the last two.

The next team we played we beat 5-2. I snapped an 8 on the break (which doesn't happen often with me) and my second game I played 2 killer safes and then kicked at a ball and got safe then ran out.

The third set we played the first team again. My friend got the first game and then when I was talking to his teammate outside I mentioned he had me 3-1 for the day and he said it's going to be 4-1, I won the next game and then thanked his friend for motivating me. I'm pretty sure I had the thinnest cut I have ever had on the 9B. Damn near 90 degrees from an inch away from the spot and CB was 1/4"-1/2" away from OB. I had to hit so hard the CB went around the table 1.5 times and rested right in front of the opposite corner pocket while the 9B trickled into the pocket. I went to shake his hand and he pulled way because the CB was still rolling and it was headed towards the corner, as soon as I looked I knew it wasn't falling so I turned and shook his hand and looked, CB just tapped the tit on the corner and stopped  At that point we were 4-2, I went outside for a few minutes and my teammate won.

After that win we were guaranteed a spot to Vegas, we're now playing for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.

The next match I think we won 5-1? Guy I played dropped the 8 early in game 1, the second game (9B) he tried playing a safe and it leaked out and I ran out.

The last match we won 5-2. I broke dry, he ran down to his last ball and hooked himself. I ran out. Had a lucky bump on my last object ball but if it didn't fall he didn't have a shot so who knows. The second time I played him, we played a few safes early then I had a killer run going but when I pocketed the 7 in the upper left corner the CB rolled like it was going down hill and just trickled into the opposite side, the 8 was on the rail 10" from where I scratched and the 9 was in the middle of the table for the other side. The table rolls so fast I should've used less right and come down-table so I could play the 8 back up-table in the opposite corner of the 7 but the area for a leave was small and I didn't want to over shoot it with the fast table  My teammate won the next game for the match and 1st place :)

The good thing about this tournament is that I didn't have to carry the team, it was truly a team effort. We all lost and we all won. It was a good time and I hope we get to go to Vegas with this team.

EDIT: Crap, that was a lot of typing.

Annnnd the guvner shuts down all bars after a week of league

Yep, where I live there are two counties (Ada and Canyon), Ada County shut down the bars unless they fall under a restaurant classification but Canyon County did not shut down. Some people are switching bars and some people are switching teams.

Actually went to league last night... I had told my team that I wouldn't be playing right away, due to the Covid stuff, as my wife and son are high risk. They wanted to keep me on the roster, which I agreed to ,as I would play if they needed a 5th player, so long as I played last, so that the room could be cleared out and have fewer people left. Last night was one of those nights...

I hadn't touched a cue since March. And of course had no warm up, just walked in, set up and played. It wasn't pretty, but I managed a win, hill-hill against a tough SL4. That was his second match of the night, as his team was shorthanded, too...so that may have contributed to his not playing as well as I'm used to seeing.

And yes, i played wearing a mask. I found that it didn't really affect my play all that much, I noticed it more when I wasn't shooting than when I was actually at the table. Of course, i wear one all day at work, so its not a major big deal to me nowadays...

Memphis was put back on a mandatory use of face masks inside buildings last week.. So everone showed up wearing masks friday night. The room owner also took every ones temperature upon entering the building.

I played a 7 in 9 ball and pulled out a close win 46-52 in a 46-55 race.

After league was over i had a chance to hit a couple racks with a be cue prime mated to a meucci cue a team mate just purchased thst afternoon. Imediate impression is man is thst shaft slick. Slicker than either the revo i had or the meucci carbon pro thst i now use.. To me it has a lot better hit and feel over the revo and probably the meucci also...undecided at this time . a few rwcks is not really enough to make a determination except that i really liked it over the revo.

Did i mention it was slick ? I have shot with a revo...meucci carbon pro and a cue tec synergy. The becue prime is the slickest by far. Hit is subjective but i like the hit of the becue over the revo and synergy. Its a toss up with the meucci ..

... a few racks is not really enough to make a determination ...
And then there is the problem that the tip can make a huge difference in perceived hit. I got one new cue and the hit felt horrible until the third tip.

Entirely correct. I bought my one and only custom without hitting with it first.i did not like it at all. Went through several tips until i was satisfied with how it played. Dqng near gave up and sold it before i got it to where i liked it

FYI - I was selected as the high level player to play Canada :)

It will be streamed live tonight. Not sure what time, there are two matches before mine, they start at six. I'm assuming I will start sometime around 8PM mountain time.

Sorry if you're not on FB, I wouldn't be if I didn't play pool.

You played well, my friend. You would have won bigger had you not scratched on some shots.

Nice shooting, my friend.

Thanks buddy. I think it was the four ball I cut into the corner and scratched in opposite side? That’s the one scratch I was upset about. I actually cut the four too thin so it came off the rail short of where I wanted it to.

There are two shots I wasn’t happy with. I missed a three early on because I rushed it. The leave on, I believe the four ball, where the seven was in the way to come back to the 5 or 6. I let the cue ball go about 3” too far and that stopped the second run in a row.

That 1-9 kick-combo was fun. Before I shot it I looked at the LO and said “we’re having fun, right” and just smiled 😁

All in it was a pretty cool format and I had fun.

The shot I remember costing you an easier win was the scratch on the break after making three balls about 3/4 through the match. It was brutal the way the cue ball tracked towards that upper left-hand corner pocket (from the breaker's viewpoint). But I did see a bit of "upset" in your body language when you scratched on the 4-ball near the end of the match.

The kick-combo was the ESPN sports reel highlight -of-the-day kind of shot, for sure.

Glad you had fun. Hope to catch it again next year. You going to be playing on the stream any more this weekend?

I watched some of it and yeah, I missed the mark on that scratch break and let the CB go. Whoops.

Mine was the last match so no more streaming. Next time they stream I will post up. Thanks again for the kind words.

I had 9 ball tri cups this weekend and it didnt go well for me...or the team for that matter.

The team knew going in that we were at quite a disadvantage due to only being able to field 4 players due to handicap and having to forfeit the 5 th match resulting in a 20 point win for the other team. We lost 3 players for various reasons and the remaining 5 resulted in a 24 handicap ...really sucked. . a couple players really performed well and i am quite proud of them.

So how did i do ? Sucked . actually my 9 ball game has sucked all session with just a 33 percent win record. My last game yesterday is an example of how my game has been basically all session.

Faced another 6 . First rack was pretty even . he broke and ran 6 balls..i finished the 7 8 and 9 ball for a score of him 6 and me 4. I break and make a ball but another ball knocks the cue ball in..he gets bih and runs 7 and misses the 9 ..i pocket the 9. Him 13 ..me 6.

I break dry....he runs the table . him 23...me 6.

He puts up a break and run. Him 33....me .6.

Well when it was over . him 46....me 23. Most of this session has been like that.

8 ball is a different story where have a 75 percent win record . heard a few remarks about i oughta be a 6 from a few opponents. I replied i dont hear any remarks from yall about my handicap in 9 ball after losing to yall by scores of 15-5 or even worse. Shuts them up real quick.

Well we won the Big dawg title for the summer session. We have won the title 3 out of the last 4 sessions, so I am really proud of my team. Unfortunately, it is getting to the point where we are "improving" too much.

I started the team 4 years ago as a way for me and 4 of my buddies to get out of the house and play someone other than ourselves. Today, 3 of the 4 original members are still with me. My philosophy from day 1 has always been to play your best and try to win each match, and not worry about skill level or handicaps.

Well now my 3's have all moved up, along with everyone else. My team now consists of SL 7, a 6, (2) 5's, and (4) Sl 4's. It is getting harder and harder to get everyone matches. For example, the only way my SL 7 can play is if all of my SL 4's play the other matches. Not only does that cause problems with bad matchups, but all four are rarely all there on the same night, so my 7, who has been with me from the beginning, rarely gets to play.

I know that the APA model forces teams to splinter off from each other and form new teams, but this sucks. I am going to have to tell 2 of our newer players, who have practiced, worked hard, and improved greatly to get to SL 4, that they need to start looking for a new team. Either that, or tell one of my oldest friends that handicap rules dictate that he find a new team with some SL 2's and 3's.

Anybody ever had to deal with this? Hell of a dilemma.

Pretty sure everyone who has played in the APA has been down this road which results in the bad taste in their mouths about the APA.

It's a fine racket I tell ya...

Hate to hear it for you. Hopefully everyone understands.
