how are ya'll doing in league ?

Slipped to 2nd place in our Masters league. We had a team that was about to start a free fall in the standings bring in a ringer for the last couple of sessions. One of my team mates had a real bad set against them and we now find ourselves 2pts behind the ringer's team. Looks like the regular season will come down to the wire.

All it really means is a handful of $100 bills and seeding in the playoffs. On paper I think we're still the deeper team. Albeit a much much closer comparison then it was prior. Playoffs in a couple of months will be very interesting.

I've had a good three or four weeks, feeling better about my game, even while losing close ones.

Then I got smoked 18-2 last night. It's not the getting beat that sucks so much, is just not being able to do anything right.

I really want to just stop, sometimes. Very discouraging.

I'm torn between being discouraged or encouraged... I've been playing my best pool over the last few weeks, and have been consistently losing. I've been playing players players my skill level and above, and have pretty much gone hill-hill with all of them, so there's a little bit of something to hold onto.

I've been SL5 for over 10 years now. The first couple years after I made SL5, I was convinced and determined to make SL6. I felt I could do it. Then life happened, and my ability to get extra table time in evaporated. Flast forward to today, and while I still don't gave the time to do the extra work, I feel I'm better applying the time I have.

I just need to frigging learn how to close out games...sigh.

As an SL5 how many safe's do you play? GENERALLY, people in that range of skills still have the mentality of "I'm pretty good, I can run the table" but the fact is, it just doesn't happen. Not saying that's you but I just worked with a guy a few weeks ago and he was a 5 and he couldn't play a safe to save his life.

Start watching games for the safes, start playing kick-safe, start working on CB speed control, etc. Sounds like you're a decent shot and just need to learn how to close out games and there's only two ways of doing that - running them or NOT letting your opponent run them ;)

Left APA last year and joined a Q-Master in-house league in Virginia Beach that uses BCA rules and Fargorate. I'll never consider playing APA again.

Im a 554 Fargo as of now. I had a good night Monday and a terrible night yesterday.

I am the last person you'll encounter thinking that they'll run the table. I generally have a 2-4 ball plan, and fully expect to have to alter that plan based on execution (or lack thereof). That can and does include safeties.

I got my a$$ kicked again tonight. Tonight's opponent wasn't quite as "on fire" as last week's...but that wasn't the issue. I simply sucked. Couldn't make more than one ball in a row, or any attempts at safeties also failed miserably.

I just don't want to play anymore. Obviously I'll get over it. It's simply an awful feeling. (Understand, I don't have an issue with losing. If my opponent plays well, good on them. I just despise playing so very poorly.)

My version of that, and it covers a lot of different sports and games kind of activities, is similar. If I'm up against someone, and they're "on" for that particular time, then good for them. What bothers me is when my execution isn't up to my norm, or when I make bad decisions.
So my version is that I don't mind getting beat, but I hate losing.

Here in Indy we have both One Pocket and Bank Pool leagues on 9 foot tables. The league is handicapped which helps fill out the leagues almost immediately with 32 players each session.

Great group of guys that I am blessed to play against. Mac Ashby plays in league and is league director. For this one pocket session we have Indiana legend Steve Oaks playing in the league.

We primarily play on Gold Crowns but there are Diamonds as well. The tables are kept in good condition.

I am winning more than I losing matches but I would guess I am winning 60% of my matches. However yesterday, I played a top rated player and got smoked, losing 3-0.

5 days later, not much improvement...well, at least I didn't suck quite so badly this time. Actually had a couple decent runs, did pretty much what I intended. Lost two games by effing up on the 8 ball. One I scratched while trying a difficult bank (didn't have any other shot at making it, didn't feel there was a decent safe...obviously didn't see the scratch, the cue ball went three rails to scratch, sigh). Lost the last game by missing the 8ball pocket I was intending, and having the 8 find a different pocket, simply a bad miss.

Discouraging. Not as bad as the last two weeks. At least. May as well see a little positive in this.

Sounds like your cue ball is covering too much real estate on the first loss. Once again, sounds like you may be shooting harder than necessary if your 8-ball went into a different pocket than intended. Maybe you are over hitting balls? IDK...I wasn't there.

You would be correct, of course. The first one, the one that actually went 2 rails before the scratch (rather than the three that I posted), that was unavoidable due to the shot and angle that I was shooting. (Perhaps a shot beyond my skill and ability, but it was the only shot on the table, and I didn't see any reasonable defense. It was a cross side bank, with a slight back cut, so the cue ball was gonna get moving. A better player would have realized the likelihood of the scratch and put a little side on the shot to control it better.) It was a fun shot to try tho, and I wasn't terribly annoyed at the result. Had I made the 8, the angle on the cue ball might have missed the pocket, too...

The second one is definetely a case of hitting it harder than necessary, with a small proviso of having to account for roll-offs on slow shots on this particular table, so I tend to hit it a bit more firmly than I might have otherwise. Still, it did not need as much juice as it got, and that not only contributed to the result, but likely is at the root of why I missed in the first place, the extra ooomph probably threw my stroke out of line too.

Just another chapter in a series of them... :) At least I can see what the issues were, compared to the previous two weeks of misery, and played better despite those two gaffes.

We are middling this session. However it was funny that probably one of the best players in the BCA league score a 12 the other night against us. (2+3+7+0+0). Total fluke but really funny. He scored 50-75 for like 20 straight weeks. Even he was laughing. Sometime the rolls don't go your way.

3rd week in a row, same results. My opponent was sympathizing with me, I couldn't make 2 balls in a row.

I dont know what to do. Hopefully take a couple weeks off and reset.

I don’t care much for APA. Won 8 and 9 ball regionals. Gave away the 9 ball spot to 2nd place not realizing he will get free $$$s out there because he was already going for 9 ball doubles. Should’ve charged him something. Still haven’t bought a plane ticket for 8 ball. I did get these nifty plaques though. And on the team thing. Our eight ball team made it to the playoffs going on this weekend.

The standings were updated and it seems as though we pulled it out at the very end of the season. We maxed out our potential total and the former 1st place squad failed to hold on to their lead, albeit small. They had a rough day and slipped down to 3rd, (which is mildly entertaining).

Playoffs this weekend, and the depth in the league appears to be spread out fairly well. Gotta love seeded tournament brackets... (y)

Wish us luck...

Hey, I didn't lose in last nights 8-ball! Of course, I didn't play, but lets not let that get in the way of some good thoughts, now.... ;)

And even better, I won't lose next week either, we have a Bye! :ROFLMAO:

However, Thursday 9-ball looms ahead of me, yikes! o_O

Figure I may as well laugh at myself, its better than continued crying.

Tonight's league games have been cancelled due to deep snow that hit the area last night and today I mean come on it's only 2' deep with drifts a bit higher ? Ha ha
Its funny, here in Maine the last few years, everything closes from a slight snowstorm like that. Years ago nothing would close short of a real blizzard.
