how are you doing in league play ?

I started playing a Tuesday night 8-ball BCA league. I hadn't played on an 8-ball league in about 7 years I think. I think I'm somewhere in the top 20 players and my team is currently in second place. I tend to do okay in 8-ball tournaments, but league has been pretty frustrating. It's been a good learning experience though, because it's about the only time I ever play 8-ball.

At a $1.00 per bottle, I don't think anybody's setting them down anywhere...

You can leave cell phones, or $10,000 worth of custom cues laying around, but don't lose the line of sight to your dollar bottled water at Hank's.
Even I have been eyeballing unattended water bottles, and I don't drink water unless it's in the form of a cube surrounded by whiskey...:)

Monday night APA 9-ball I was 6-2 (including a 20-0 against a SL6) for a 75% win ratio.

I played my very first session of APA Masters this fall. After starting the session at 0-2, I finished the rest of the session with an 8-1 record for a total record of 8-3, about a 73% win ratio.

I have Triangles on most of my playing shafts. For the most part, the list of tips I do NOT like is shorter than the list of tips that I do like. I can pretty much play (and play about the same) with most brands/types of tips out there. I just keep the Triangles on my playing shafts for consistency of feel from shaft to shaft.

good job maniac, i wil lexpect thta much this coming session as well, lol

I've been a SL7 for several years now. I've played with Mooris. They're nice, but I still beat up on people with my Triangle. Last week I won against a 6, 5-2, in 13 innings. I messed up a few shots, but had two consecutive break and runs with a Triangle tip. Not bad for only playing matches on Tuesday as 'practice'.

To me it seems league play and handicapping can really mess with your mind if you let it.

Ideally, if everyone's handicap was 100% accurate, everyone's win percentage would be close to 50%. If you win too much, maybe you are under handicapped. If you lose too much, maybe you are over handicapped.

I had a high win % last season, especially if you included my playoff games. This season, my HC was raised and my win % has dropped to 47%.

I started APA three years ago as a 4/4, and have moved up to a 6/8 since then, maintaining a win% between 57 and 58. I think the difference between 45% and 55% is how confident you are going into each shot, and how consistently you play your game. Most of my losses are when I personally played badly. If I realize my shots are off and I start paying attention early enough, I can usually pull the win out with good safety play.

The spectator benches in Hanks are made of pine? Funny, I thought they would be made of plastic -- to resist water damage from any knocked-over bottles of water. :p

The league we play in is at Greenfields. You know that place.

The voice of experiance here.

This is my 2nd season of league play. This season my loses are mainly due to the HC change. I can't get away with making as many mistakes as I did before.

My latest hurdle has been to commit to the shot. Too many times I am missing because my mind is still thinking about where I want the CB to go.

wed nite for BCA out of 22 weeks i played 19 weeks an had 9.95% out of full 10.00% had most break an runs most rack an runs Top gun

APA 8-Ball this season only

We're going into the second round of playoffs next week. It was hill-hill for the night and hill-hill for the winning match and we pulled it off. If we win this coming tuesday, we go to the state tourney.

I won the first four matches of the season as an SL5. Then lost 3-4 in a row, then went on another winning streak for 6-7 matches. I won't make any excuses for losing, but the table quality where I play is so poor that you can't slow roll anything. That takes a lot out of the game when you play on smaller tables.

Good grief man! How many nights a week do you shoot?!! Hahalol! I'm 2-5 Monday night APA 9'ball. Yick! Im 6-1 for Thursday night APA 8 ball. :) I dont know what it is but I can never seem tomb doing good at both at the same time . I dunno.

As far as your tip question: I couldn't tell you because I'm still on my first tip that came with the stick 2 years ago. Kinda makes me wanna change now :) Good luck to you this session.

i shoot 4 nights a week. i was shooting 5 but that was just too much for this 57 year old body lol.

funny thing is i did not shoot any for 2 years due to an injury. when i got back to shooting last year my gf asked me to join her sunday night double jeapordy league.it just escalated from there, people started sasking me to join their team and i just could not say no lol.

i am kinda new to this league thing. i played bcapl for about a year then i got hurt and did not play for 2 years till i joined my gf s team last year.

btw i play on 2 different teams on tue night. i have been playing on a tue night money team for about 8 months and my fri night team captain asked me to play on her tue night team a couple months ago. i told her i would but only when we are at the same pool hall or i have a bye on that night. my money league takes preference cause its for the money lol.

the nights are as follows.

fri night apa 8 ball

sat napa

sun apa double jeapordy

tue apa 8 ball and money league also.

I'm in dead last in my 9-ball league, yay me! 1-6 or some such... Kind of snake-bitten. I'm a SL4 in 9-ball. My last match I played the only SL8 in our league, and lost by 1 ball. (The details of how I lost that match aggravate me so much that I'll stop right there. All on me, mind you, not a *****-fest.) The match before that, I lost to a SL7 by 2 balls. So I'm right in there, against the best players in the league, but not closing the deal.

I'm at 44% in 8-ball. (I'm SL5 in that one.) The thing I've noticed about becoming a SL5 last year is that I'm constantly playing SL5's and above most of the time, with the occasional SL4. There is no question it's more of a challenge, especially for someone who is still really a beginner at pool. (Pnly been paying for just over 2 years now.) I'm not complaining, mind you. The only way I'm gonna get better is by playing the better players, and learning how to close out games and matches.

I've only had my playing cue for a year now, and haven't changed the tip yet.

just keep knocking them in dub and you will get to where you are starting to close them out.

i really like your attitude. i think you are playing pretty good if you are only losing to higher levels by only a ball or 2.

i never have been one to care about all the different kinds of tips. i just cared if it was shaped good and held chalk.

i just played with what was on it. being some what of a soft shooter i have never had to change a tip til this one fell off. that triangle he put on made me miscue like crezy so i put it up and played with my breaker and dnever miscued the rest of the night.

when i had that replaced i asked for a kamui just to try one . he said he did not have any and suggested a moori. i must say it made a world of difference over the triangle or whatever came on my cue. i am not miscueing, pocketing balls better and playing position a whole lot better.

the cue ball stops a whole lot closer to where i intend for it go after making a shot. that has really improved my game.

Well I just got raised to a SL7 after being a 6 for like 5 years, (I used to be a 7) Kids working swing shift, and loosing my eye sight makes me wonder how I got raised. but i like the challenge..

This session (APA) 8 ball I have a 7-2 win/loss ratio. I beat 4 -6's 1-7,2-4's

and lost agains a 5 and a 4 both of which had break and runs. not fun with that race.

I also noticed a huge improvement some years back by going to a Bloodworth layed tip. Med/hard

Our team recently switched leagues to an ACS/BCA league. I'm not certain I like the format (playing each person on the opposing team just 1 game of barbox 8ball), compared to the race to your handicap league we came from. But, I've played ok so far (averaging a little over 33 points a night out of a possible 40). Last night I had 2 wins and 2 losses....one of the losses was a break and run from an opponent (so I got ZERO points)....and I only got 26 total. Guess that average will be going down. lol. Luckily that's the only the 2nd time I've been blanked this session (have played 9 times - 36 games).

I don't like the fact that I may not have a chance to pay that opponent back for hitting me with a 10-0. In fact, the next time we play that team, he may get the break again!!!

I dunno, I'm ok with the faster night of league (4 on 4 - 16 games total), but I still think I favor races....competitively speaking.

Seems like the search for the perfect tip for me is a never ending story... Damn you Moori for kicking up production and losing the original moori medium's characteristics....

As far as League... I am undefeated... I will be undefeated next year as well... Open Tournaments I am 3-2 Losses to Rob Saez and Max Eberle... Need to play in more than 1 next year LOL

like i said earlier, i dont have much experience with different brands of tips.

i always buy a new cue before i wear out the tip on the one i am currently playing with lol.

i started collecting cues a few years ago and every one of them has the original tip they came with except for this one. it would probably still have the original tip if it had not fell off lol.

undefeated huh ? darn sure i dont play you, well maybe it would be a good thing. i might lew a thing or 2 in between racking every game for you lol.
