How beneficial is an aiming system?

I don't agree with some of things attached to YOUR system...and I gotta say you do it well. I've not called anyone a liar...so get your shit straight..I don't personally Know Gerry but from what I take from here ..he seems to be a stand up guy .Me not agreeing with things doesn't make him a lair.

You ok...

I don't have a system Anthony. Nothing is my system. Maybe you don't agree with CTE but that is what Gerry says he uses. So when you claim CTE users don't know what they are doing you include him in that statement.

Damn, John.....do you ever build cases anymore??? :scratchhead:

I mean...I'm on here a LOT too...but I'm retired for cryin' out loud!!!

I never liked the comparisons between golf and pool. In golf...the player has no real expectation of his ball going into the hole on the first shot (therefore, they move the ball to a "zone" the first couple of shots).

In pool...the player not only has an expectation of his ball going into the hole on the first shot, but it MUST go into the hole on the first shot, or...game over in most cases (but not so in golf).

Pool is pool and golf is golf.....let's stick to talking about pool and cut out all the analogies with other sports.

IMO, pool is a unique sport...and is deserving of it's own special set of nuances.

I've thought this for a very long time. There is no other sport like pool....snooker. It is so simple that is so hard. It is a equalizer sport. It is a very inexpensive sport to play.

It is a 365 day a year sport....indoor and outdoor....in some places.

No two games are the same, no two table layout is the same.

I feel that playing pool has more of a connection to the arts like dancing and music and painting. This comes from the performance angle of playing pool, mostly from playing 14.1 where you can get into a flow, you can see where you need to be and execute that...no thinking, just doing......kinda like Gene Kelly dancing , or a great guitar solo....and so on.....

When I am in the shop I build cases. I also design cases all the time. Just last night I designed a new case that I will build when I get back to the shop.

Well....golf sometimes seems to NOT be so much of a sport. Like the "pros"....hell, let them carry their OWN damn bag!!!

Then...there's the weekend warriors that ride in golf carts....get out, hit a ball, get back in and ride up to the next shot, get out, hit the ball..........

Some sport, eh???

At least they're outside getting some air, instead of hanging out in the pool hall on a sunny Saturday morning in July. And they aren't congregated outside having a smoke, complaining about the roll they just got, or how they just got beat by a sandbagger.

Pool is a game. Golf is a sport. There's no comparison.

Pool is a sport according to ESPN, the National Sporting Goods Marketing Association, to Sports Ilustrated and every definition of sport that exists.

Now I see where most of your problem is. You don't respect the sport.

According to the World Games billiards is a sport.

http://www.theworldgames.org/the-sports/sports/precision-sports/billiard-sports

Billiards is recognized by the International Olympic Committee as a sport.

Billiards is a game in the same way that basketball and baseball and tennis are games and a sport in the same way that they are sports.

The comparison to golf is actually quite relevant as both activities are fairly low aerobic ones, both require great body control to hit a stationary object in the desired direction. Both require the player to navigate tricky situations.

And both have lots of methods with which to attack the goal. Including aiming methods.

But they do drink a lot of beer on the course, and they smoke too while complaining about the pin placement on number 6, or the putt they missed......

I don't know anything about golf.

I am sure to get an email soon correcting me if I am wrong by someone who knows a lot about golf.

However in golf it seems as ifi APEX Aiming is akin to Ghost Ball in that it's the old way to aim. And the new way is Aim Point aiming which appears to be much more accurate.

In the video below the instructor says "many golfers still believe that apex aiming is the way to go."

Ice dancing and auto racing are also considered sports. I also think ESPN classifies Texas Hold 'Em as a sport as well. The spelling bee was on TSN last night.

When people start flocking to the pool halls to get in shape, I'll consider it a sport. Until then, it's a game. Argue it all you want, John. The number one injury in pool is someone's ass going numb from sitting too long. The next is a bad back from bending over repeatedly while also carrying an extra 20-40 lbs around the middle.

Oh, I also think the IOC was considering removing wrestling from the next Olympics. Is that proof that wrestling is no longer a sport?

Guessing you don't get out much if you don't think golfers don't complain about rolls.

As for sandbagging.....

Again I love the internet, it's much smarter than I am.

If you hate pool so much find a new hobby.

He's using the wrong visual. He's supposed to align his left foot with the third shrub on the left of the screen. Then rotate until his toes are pointing at the beer cart. Then the putt is guaranteed to go in the hole. It only works on greens that are twice as long as they are wide, however.

I never said I hated pool. I just don't play it anymore. I found other activities. Running, tennis, badminton (can hardly wait to hear the comments), motorcycling. Things that got my overweight ass out of the pool room, and actually add some years to my life. You should consider similar changes, John. You seem like a very intelligent guy. Instead of becoming the self appointed soapbox preacher regarding CTE, use your skills for things that will better yourself. Do some pushups. Hit the gym. Hop on the treadmill. Make sure you're around to see your child graduate from college. There are many other things to live for besides pool.

If the IOC removes a sport they still RECOGNIZE it as a sport. You have to BE a sport to get into or be considered for inclusion into the Olympics.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. I can only take delight in proving how wrong you are. You can be as wrong as you prefer and waste your time typing your wrong opinion and people who know you will say look there is Shawn Armstrong who thinks he knows more about sports than the international olympic committee.

And actually you can play pool to stay healthy. Any physical activity is better than none and walking at least a mile a day would be considered good for your health. Most players walk about a mile or more each night when they play.

Anyway, again, love the internet, those darn clever folks at google do such a good job of combing the net and filing everything away so that anyone interested in checking their thoughts against the world's collected wisdom can do so instantly. Look what I found....

And yet here you are on a pool forum. Preaching.

Here is something pool players can do, something I have done and advocated.

Play speed pool. That is just as good as aerobics and it's fun. For even better results try to run out with ball in hand in under 30 seconds. Do ten reps of that and see how much you sweat.

Skinny people die early too. Heart disease is often hereditary Shawn, don't need to go to the internet to know that.

I agree that it's better to be healthier but don't knock pool because of your own hangups.

Gee, making fun of things you know nothing about makes you look super smart.

I bet you feel awesome when you say it too. You probably high five yourself in the mirror.

It must really burn your ass that some people take the time to figure out methods that are helpful to other people and that those people who try them find great benefit in them.

Must make you feel great to put those people down. Look mom how negative I can be. I am so much smarter than them don't you agree mom? Yes Shawn you are the smartest boy ever.

Except......you aren't. Making fun of people's efforts and methods you know nothing about only makes you look silly.

Lol - I won a TV many years ago playing speed pool at the Provincials...Dave Pearson was running it and he is still involved with it. It is a lot of fun - My fastest time was 39 seconds on a bar box to run all 15 with the 8 going last.

And yet here you are on a pool forum. Preaching.

Any knowledgeable reader can see his posts are nonsense. Trolls are only validated when people respond to their troll posts. Based upon his posts, I seriously doubt that he can run 3 balls.

Aren't you a beginner? Didn't you bark at 8 Pack and get bit? :D

I asked Barton to highlight specific posts he had concerns with and ask you to do the same. Please provide posts to back up your statement; otherwise, you know, confirmation bias...much!
