How big is the break rules in Mosconi Cup this year

They are just reaching back, slamming the balls, and slopping balls in. I know what I am looking at.

Player A slams the rack, controls the cue ball and the 1-ball, does not luck a ball in, player B gets the gravy.

You are finally right with this statement. Err wait let's just say your statement is right.. Wouldn't want to end a perfect streak or anything...

Kind of like a clock being right 2 times a day tho...

There was a gentleman's agreement between the players... Break from the break box and hit them square... No cut breaking..... Just break them hard, hit them square and accept the results..

Shane cut the break 2 times in the last match and Mika called him out on it already...

Chris

More crap. Fix it.

Great Break Rules!!!

Don't even think about spotting the 9 on a Golden Break. ( We need fans in pool!!)

Several members, including myself have been saying for years on here that 9 ball racking should be 9 on spot, small break box, call shot, no slop, ref racking, and 9 spots up on the break. There getting there. One of the things a ref racking does is stopping the pattern racking. Not that it matters much at this MC as not many are making balls on the break anyhow. Johnnyt

Chris, just quote the tweet:

Mika Immonen@icemanmika
"Gentlemen's agreement was to hit the balls square. Meantime Shane is hitting a cut break. What a Joke. We all know he can hit it @Mosconicup"

Now could someone explain to this noob what he was complaining about?

Open with a slop shot in a called shot game?

I see where you are coming from with your suggestions...all except for the above... unless of course I misunderstood and you want to call a ball on the break. When you say "Call shot, no slop, like in 14.1" I understand.

Call one, call all. Slop one, slop all.

This is not 14.1, it's 9 ball. 8, 9, 10, 15 ball, and 1 hole has always been slop on the break as you call it. I said the 9 doesn't count on the break. It gets spotted and you continue to shoot. You are anal with this break stuff. If you want no slop just play 14.1. Johnnyt

Makes perfect sense.

Anal goes to all you folks who want to call stuff. I say call nothing at any time in any game. Loosen things up. Stop tightening everything down. Maybe more people will play.

to be honest I don't like the "cue ball in the box" break, and I don't like golden break, what is golden when we saw almost 10 of them in the first 2 days?

In some tournament here in Vietnam, we play 9ball racking the same way, but does not limit where to break from. some players figured out how to pot balls and have the next shot, yes, powerful but still controlled breaks, not all over the place like I saw in the Mosconi. It seems team Europe have practice the so-called golden break, that is because of "the box".

and I am truly surprised to see those top top top players struggling to break with the 9 on the spot, even since the World Cup of Pool, they haven't practice this break since then?

5 in 91.... The rest of your post is now moot...

thanks for playing tho =)

Giant Break Spot

Like a tee box, this is simple. Snooker utilizes the D area. Just a thought, but make the Break spot large enough that room owners don't have to Demand a cloth break pad. Tho someone will eventually complain  about ball roll off as it contacts the Head spot outer edges as it finishes it's roll.

Be honest and realistic. You haven't thought this through.
What happens to the Mosconi Cup if you "fix it"?
You really think something like "no conflict" works with world champions?

If you let top pros get a guaranteed shot after each break,
They will come up with some sort of repetitive controlled hit
that guarantees a nearly-hung one ball, and the cue ball in the center
(aka Shane's 10 ball break).

Then they will methodically run out the rack unless a random roll locks two balls together.
The mosconi cup would look like a bunch of dudes taking turns playing the ghost.

Would it be one of the most watched & talked about events in pool,
with Matchroom paying tens of thousands, for a dry and undramatic version of 9 ball
where the excitement of the break is removed?

You do not know what you are talking about but I will credit you with having an imagination. You have no clue as to what makes the Mosconi Cup. It ain't the rules.

The game, if at all possible, should be decided by how well you play, not by outside forces such as a random break layout.

Pool is made to be "RANDOM"!

If pool shots SHOULDN'T be "random", then let's just sit up spot shots and the person who makes the most out of a set number is the WORLD CHAMPION!

The ONLY thing in pool that SHOULDN'T be random, is the RULES.

As long as everyone is following the rules, and you happen to get beat...TOUGH $HIT!

ANYBODY can beat ANYONE in a SHORT race on a RANDOM basis! I am NOT considered a pro, but I have ran 6-packs of 9-ball on MULTIPLE occasions. Whether I could ever do it in a Mosconi Cup situation against a "real" pro is another story.

I DON'T feel sorry or make excuses for ANY of these Mosconi Cup participants from EITHER team.

If you LOSE this event, then OBVIOUSLY you weren't the BEST prepared for the event. It ALL comes down to "who is better on any given day" following the rules that are in place at the time.

Random insults do not make a compelling argument.
You might as well try some mom jokes.
If you don't have the mental firepower to make a counter argument,
and you don't have any good points to make, you could at least try to be funny.

Sell me (or hell, ANYone on this forum) on why less break randomness would be good for the Mosconi Cup.
Why would anyone be entertained by making the break more predictable?
Unpredictability keeps the viewer engaged. Predictability = boring = let's go watch something else.

If your argument is that the cup's success has to do with its spectacle and production values...
that's valid up to a point. But you're nuts if you think the break rules are irrelevant to viewers.
Matchroom has carefully tweaked them every year, shrinking the box, coming up with
special rules to discourage soft break, etc.

Why? So it's less predictable.
You wanna claim they don't know what they're doing?
