How did the pros get their nicknames?

Some of these might be self-expanatory (i.e. ryming, looks, etc.), but how did the pros get their nicknames. Who nicknamed them and when and the situation if known.

Johnny got the Scorpion because one day when Earl pissed him off he put his cue in his butt, bend over and poked Earl in the eye. Very strange sight I must say.

I think some players get their nicnames by something they do,as in DONNIE(carlot)MILLS him or family sells cars,cigar TOM VANOVER smokes cigars,thats just a couple that came to the top of my head,i hope u get what i mean.
 
Everyone named Earl is nicknamed the Pearl. Maybe the most unimaginative nickname ever.

I think people in the pool world try too hard to give/get nicknames.
 
At the hall where I play, they call me The Stud.
Probably because every time I walk in, someone says, oh oh, here comes that FKer again.
 
I'm not a pro either, although I play one on a number of different pool forums, but back in the day I was know as "Larry the Table Guy". I was called that because I would come into a poolroom wearing a checkered shirt with the sleeves cut off, a ball cap with a big gold fish hook on the bill, and a two-piece cue that had "Budweiser, King of Beers" printed on it. I looked like I had just fallen of a passing turnip truck. Those were the good old days, I can tell you. :)

Especially when you come on the forum and ask them to come up with a nickname like some female did a while back.

Most nicknames come from something that you do, how you act, certain phrases you use, your look or where you are from.

Some others that get worn out are Sugar Ray, Fast Eddie,

Where I worked one guy was called Cat's A$$ because whenever he thought something was good he would say it's the cat's a$$. Another was called Leave a $hit because he would always say I am going to leave a $hit instead of taking one. One was called Firebird because he had a Firebird and that is all he talked about. I can go on and on but none of them rhymed with their name. That is just kindergarden stuff for little kids that can't think of anything or are just making fun of them.

For the most part you have to "earn" it.
 
Well, I guess we don't have any real answers to the origin of the pros nicknames.

So, if you have a nickname, how did you get yours?
