A good point Dave. By not selling out, do you mean that you will keep the cue and the person's money and never contact them?

lol no... i mean i wont cut corners to make a sale. if i say 6 months and the customer says its too long i say go elsewhere. i wont screw someone to make an extra few dollars. not every deal can be perfect but i try my best

Hi,

The customer is always right and is the King. If you don't take care of any perceived problems by the customer, they will ruin your reputation with bad karma. If they have a problem that you can't resolve, give them their money back or build them a new cue. In the long run you will be the winner.

That is the way I see it too. With one exception though. If your customer is so unhappy with you or your work, for whatever reason, forcing the customer to accept a different cue or one that has been remade is out of the question too, IMO.

I think the majority of c/m's here believe the same.

When i build a cue, it is the best quality, that I can make, reguardless of price. I make a very good cue & am more than reasonable on the price. I will not dicker on the price & when the cue is finished & within one month, you don't like it & it has no dents or damages, I will take it back & give a full refund. After 23 yrs I have never had to return anyone's money. As far as a warranty, any defect in materials or workmanship will be repaired or replaced. After one month warpage is not warrantyed. Only once have I ever had to inforce this. I made a bacote cue that developed a crack in the grain. I made him a new cue, repaired the old one & donated it to a young player, that couldn't afford a cue. The customer is not always right, but I will do what ever is reasonable to please him...JER

i couldnt disagree more. the customer is rarely right. esp when it comes to things they do not knowabout (or think they know). this falls under the sell out catagory. this is in all walks of life. i hear it daily in my day job in the casino. players (customers) think bc they play thier money they are the boss and make the rules. i have no problem putting them in their place

I think your refund or return policy is more than reasonable.

If your not happy, I'm not satisfied

To me, the value of a cue is all in the "feel". I've always considered it a great leap of faith to buy a cue without holding it in your hands and hitting a few balls with it first. For that reason, I have always offered a money back guarantee when I sell a cue over the internet. If the buyer doesn't like the cue after they have received it (for whatever reason), they can return it (in original condition) for a refund of their purchase price (minus shipping).

I'm proud to say that I've never had anyone take me up on the offer so far:)

As far as problems with a cue "down the road". I also haven't had that problem to date. If and/or when I do, I would certainly work with the buyer to resolve any problems to their satisfaction.

Since I do this as a hobby and not a business, I may have a different approach than someone who is trying to make a living building cues. I just feel that if someone has enough faith in me to purchase one of my cues, I don't want to let them down.

A usefull poll for everyone to see how you stand behind your product. This is a public poll.
I warranty my cues for defects of material and workmanship. I warranty against warpage for the first 60 days. I check every cue very carefully and if I find a problem that I didnt see before I either fix it when possible or I will let the customer know right away. I will not sell any cue that has any defects in material or in the workmanship! No matter how bad it makes me look in the customers eyes! We all know what I am referring to here! And as much as I dont like to say this the customer is not always right. But I do everything that I can to make it right with the customer! I believe honesty is the only policy!!!!!

I have voted for the third point. IMHO the main privilege of the custom cuemaker is human contacts between the maker and the customer. The main thing for the maker that the customer has been satisfied with result of the order. A guarantee is most likely for factories which release many cues. They do not see each concrete customer, only consumer masses, and here is important a market receptions of sale for example a guarantee, etc.
But for the custom cuemaker the main thing is human mutual relations with the customer. For example many my customers became my friends in a result:wave3:. The customer is satisfied - I am pleased:grin-square:. What more is necessary for the custom cuemaker happiness?

Merry Christmas :)

Having owed a car repair business for a number of years I would say that the customer is not always right. They can say they are but it doesn't change the fact that they don't always know what they are talking about and sometimes use the phrase to get more than they have coming.
I had a customer that everytime I worked on his car, something would go wrong. Always my fault. And I would immediately fix it. My time and money. Then he had an AC problem. We replaced parts and got it all working fine. A week later it failed. He came to me fuming. I handed him all new parts and a check to cover the labor of someone else fixing it and told him that things were not going to work between us. After doing so he offered me one more chance to work on his car. I told him I was not interested where upon he started ragging on me again. So far I have never had to do this with a cue that I have built or a customer that bought one.
I have no written warrentee but will make things right if something I did goes wrong because of my workmanship. But I do expect the owner to take responsiblity for his property and not come to me, after leaving it in his trunk in the 100+ weather and asking me to replace it because it is now warpped.
As an aside to this thread, try looking up custom funiture makers and finding one with a stated warrentee on their website.

I'd like to point out that Rick, refinished a cue for me in the past. The finish had A sligh, AND I DO MEAN 1 SLIGHT, imperfection in it and after he noticed it he refinished the cue for me again. At no additional charge. The guy is a man of his word and as a result, I will be returning to his shop tonight to have him refinish and wrap another cue for me. He seems to want nothing short of perfection and even if it is and the customer isn't happy, he'll do it again and again until the job is done the way the customer wants it done... not to put any pressure on you with this next job or anything rick... ;)

i responded to this poll not as a cue builder because i sure as heck am not, but when I was flipping alit of cues 20 years ago, or now when I sell the occasional cue, if someone dosent like it-i take it back no problem as long as they havent damaged the cue.

I think this statements needs clarified.
" i conduct buisness on a person to person basis."

Does this mean you will charge Bill x amout and Kim x amount plus?
Everyone should be treated the same regardless of the situation. This doesnt mean that you have to take any crap it just means that if you are doing something for one then you should do for all, excluding certian circumstances.
