How do you feel about the bathroom break?

Leaving the playing area when it's not your turn is a move. Everyone knows this. When you know your opponent isn't present while you're shooting it's a shark plain and simple. Most people go to the bathroom while their opponent is playing because when they come back, many times they magically have the table.

I'm also of the sentiment that if you constitute a bathroom break as sharking, then you're probably easily sharked. The only exception may be when shooting on the 9ball/8ball. In between games there should be no questions asked.

I get sharked way worse just for bringing my personal cue to the bar.

Maybe he was sharking you...

But do you really want to watch an old dude pissing into a cup in the corner? Its not a risk I'd be willing to take. LET THE OLD GUY PISS! Haha

"Depends"

Honestly it depends. (no , not the undergarment).

If its an older gentleman, a preg lady, or one of them skinny willy-nilly women, i'd say its probably warranted they need to go. Being an older male myself, I know the age/karma thing so I tend to go before a match starts.

As far as a sharking move, hell yeah ppl do it; they'll do anything to get an edge on you! I played a match recently that was very close talent wise. He was really nice; a very solid player. His GF who also plays on the team, and knows my speed, decided to play something on the jukebox that made white noise sound like Mozart.(the speaker was just over the head rail of the table we were playing on). That said: bathroom, refreshment, smoke, hangnail, breaks are the least of my concern towards sharking.

Unless you go in there with him, you'll never know if he was making a move or just needed to piss. But when you're older, you do need to go more often.

I get impatient about it too, especially some of my heavy drinking buddies...
it's like every rack. But most people aren't doing things "to" you, they're just doing things.

Personally if I am desperate to shark someone I'm not gonna go for subtlety or mind games. I'm going to knock over the Q-claw or get an allergy attack.

So why is it that these guys always have this urgency when it's the other guys shot? If he had to piss so bad he couldn't wait, why did he wait till his shot was through? Of course it is a move. It works with some guys and doesn't with others, but they try all the same.

The rule is you take the break on your own shot not your opponent's. We all know this up front. If there is some form of "emergency" then they should ask permission if it is on their opponent's shot. Common decency.

What are your feelings about the old bathroom break to try and break an opponents momentum? I was playing an older gentleman in a tourney the other night. He gets gets up on me 2-0 in a race to 5. I carom off the 3 make the nine in the side, then I break and make the 9 in the side. He throws his quater to me I put them in and look up and he's gone. He comes out the bathroom about 5 minutes later and racks, never says a word. It went hill, hill and I won. Do you guys consider this just gamesmanship or trying to shark somebody?

Old Dogs need to stop at every tree. I'm 69. Trust me on this.

It's definitely a move to walk away without saying anything. No doubt about it. Doesn't matter whether he had to go or not. It's the way he did it.

Sorry, but you have to learn to mentally toughen up to play this game. Try fading what I had to last nite in a tournament match- I'm playing a guy that easily has a 100 pounds on me and at least 6" in height. Everytime I shoot, he was making a point of standing right in front of me, and one time even yelled out "this guy is my idol, I'm been watching him since I was a kid".

When that didn't work for him, I'm down on a shot and hear him banging his house cue on a loose ceramic tile. I stopped, but stayed in position, realized why he was doing it and smiled. Started warmup strokes to get my mind back on the shot, and then realized that now he was doing it faster and harder(louder). I chuckled, and ran out on him. Sometimes you have to fade unbelievable B.S. from some opponents.

As to an older guy having to use the bathroom, as someone else said, some day you will understand that one.

Theres an old story of Cornbread Red being in a high stakes one pocket game and his opponent tried to stall him out by going grab a cup of coffee that took like 20 minutes......well Cornbread comes back and is on an easy shot on the money ball to take down the cash.......so cornbread lays his cue down and goes gets a cup of coffee LMFAO.......just to make the guy sweat it more

Some people just simply have to have it. Other will take advantage of it. But I would rather it be in place than have someone have a accident!

eh who cares?

Bathroom break is no problem. Gives me a chance to go for a smoke or get a beer or something.

If that's sharking then good god is there much much much worse out there.

don't let your opponent shark you by taking washroom break..use it as another advantage..sit down and relax if you don't feel like going to the washroom..you may also look and study the layout of the table for an easy run out..

Would it have been better if he'd peed his pants and gotten piss all over his pants, the floor, and his chair?

Some of us have medical conditions that require the use of diuretics like Lasix and/or Spironolactone to control excess fluid buildup and resultant high blood pressure. Maybe when you're older you'll understand. In any case, I think you're making a mountain out of a mole hill. Perhaps you should work on your mental toughness.

Why didn't he say anything to his opponent about leaving the table? Why did he just walk away? Would you have done that?

I really dont see the big deal with what happened here. If he did say "I'll be right back" you still would have had to wait till he got back, so, the results was the same........Reguardless if he told you or not, he left after the rack was over, so you were just waiting to break, Its not like he left in the middle of the rack when it was your shot..............When you gotta go, you gotta go

With all due respect Fran, I have to take 80 mg of Lasix and 25 mg of Spironolactone daily and the effects last for about 8 hours. The urge to urinate comes out of nowhere and demands that I get to the bathroom RIGHT NOW, or else! There are other conditions exclusive to males such as Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) (which is actually quite common among older men) that produce the same effects--an uncontrollable urge to urinate.

Now I don't know if any of that applies to the gent in question, but in any case I don't see it as a big deal. Most of the time, I have just enough time to tell my opponent, but there are times when I just have to drop everything and run to the men's room before things get messy...it's not a shark move.

Perhaps it would be better to whip it out and pee a quart or more all over my opponent, the chairs, the table, the rug and any spectators? For some strange reason, I don't think any of them, not to mention the owner of the pool hall, would appreciate it!

The least he could have done is let you know what was going on, still not a foul, but certainly ill mannered. You have a right to know.

It would have been (IMO) ok for you to deny a 2nd Bathroom. He could have offered a BALL in Hand, but I would have required him to wash his hands first

IMO a short race to 4 negates a NEED to have bathroom breaks anyway.
