OK, go ahead and throw the nutsack comments at me, lol. I like playing POOL with semi-dirty balls. Too clean, they wont take the spin. Too dirty, they take too much spin. I think slightly dirty is the best! What do you think?

if there is only one hell

then hell has one cleanliness

therefore clean as hell and dirty as hell mean the exact same level of cleanliness..

Just messin with ya:grin:

clean balls roll truer

dirty balls are more realistic as you will find that condition more often..

six of one,, half dozen of the other..

learn both extremes ... and after that just guess:eek::eek::grin-square::grin-square::grin-square::grin-square:

The reason for this pool is what happened tonight. My son and I were shooting pool tonight at a place that has 4 nine foot Brunswicks, 3 GC1's and one Centurion. Well we were on a GC while the guy working was cleaning all the balls on the other tables. He wanted to clean the balls on the table we were on, so we went to another table, with squeeky clean shiny slippery balls. I went from playing good to playing like I was blind. I knew clean and dirty balls played differently, but Ive never had the chance to test out exactly how much until now! lol! It is crazy how different they played.

I like my balls clean and polished

dirty balls , i dont even like touching to place in a rack

should never feel any grime on your balls

i recommend a ball polisher of some sort

manual or electric LOL

I prefer them licked clean....... oops...... your talking about pool balls. Well.... polished in both cases. LOL!!

Dirty balls do not respond consistently and consistency is paramount.

It doesn't really matter to me, but I can tell you that I hate super clean balls especially with new cloth. Skidding is a real problem. I like some dirt because I feel the friction takes better. There is supposed to be dirt. That's part of the game. Dirt if part of everyone's life........ Gotta take the good with the bad.....

The only time I will actually clean a ball is if it goes onto the floor. I am actually picking chalk and stuff off the table all the time, (like Johnny) I especially clean the cueball off when it leaves the table. Other than that, polished balls suck to me. My pool hall keeps their equipment very clean and I never have to worry about a thing.

Merry Christmas EVE everyone, Sung

When the balls are clean, its easier to draw long distance. Also, less contact throw with clean balls. So I do prefer them clean. I'm lazy though, so they dont stay clean for long. I think its best to adapt to the conditions where you play. If the room I played in didnt clean their balls, I'd never clean mine.

I clean 'em with a Ball Star as much as I can. My 4 year old loves to help me do this too. He is not so good on the table though.

many years ago i was playing on a bar-box. the balls were stickier than pamela anderson at a bachelor's party. everyone thought that they were playing pool except me.

Clean (if cleaned with a good ball cleaner/polish). The balls react more consistently each time they are struck. No throws or skids on the object ball that cause missed shots.

What's the diff between cleaning and polishing? For instance Wayne, at Breakers, when they use the ball cleaning doohicky machine, what agent are they using - a cleaner or a polisher or one that acts as both? What is the agent of norm in those commonly used machines?

To me, a polish might indicate a shiny residue has been left, which would make the balls react unnaturally.

When they put new simonis on this month, and with freshly cleaned balls, I thought I was ice skating...

Good point. I didnt think about the difference between polished and clean. You are probably right that its the polish that makes the skid and lack of transfer happen, more so than just being clean.

Most bars/pool halls use the "Ball Star" ball cleaning machine which uses their own liquid mixture of polish with a little grit in it for cleaning.
There are many "combo" cleaner/polishes on the market including Aramith's that they recommend for their brand balls (surprise, surprise)! Some use different car finishes on the balls as a polish. The best product should leave the balls with the same slickness as when they were new. FYI

Clean balls only! Seems like evey time I play with a dirty rack of balls I catch a cold which then turns into bronchitis and I'm sick for a week.

I spoke on this before, I believe the cleaner the balls are, the more squirt that occurs during contact between balls ,and also effects the way balls come off rails..

I like them semi dirty so there not shining ,,but not a eye sore neither...

Well besides liking the Baldwin Schwetty balls, the chefs chocolate salty balls, boudin balls, and whiskey balls I also like to take the balls I shoot with and just wipe them down with a microfiber cloth.

So they stay clean, but I'll pass on the polish. Now my table is a different story I sweep it every day, and then give it a wipe down every few days with a slightly damp microfiber cloth. I vacuum it about once a week too, can't stand playing on a table that after 30min of playing your hands look like you got the gangrene. Just do like they do in every good pool hall, brush after people get off the table wipe her down every so often...just take care of the equipment.

If you take care of the playing surface then the balls shouldn't get that dirty anyways at least not anything that the microfiber cant handle.

Oh and guys/gals when you brush your table don't make the newbie mistake of leaving the balls in the pockets, then everything you swept off the table is going to be on the balls....which is going to end up right back on the table.

Also at least a few times a month or once a week give the insides of the pockets a wipe down too.

Then give your table a big bear hug and tell her how much you love having her around.

I love you table.....
love you too Ghost, thanks for brushing me and cleaning my dirty balls lol (Either it talks back or I'm hearing things)

I myself would rather play with new balls or balls that are a clean or polished as they come new. I think you get more response from clean balls compared to dirty one's. one of the places I play out of never cleans or polishes the balls and when you hit them they barely move. So I have my set of aramith ball's I take there and you can really see the difference<<ED
